  1. They are making progress on analytics but I'm not real sure how far behind they are in the whole sports science stuff using hide speed cameras and attaching things to a players body much like the movies do to an actor in order to create a CGI appraisal of a guys movements. I think they are way behind on that stuff. These kind of player development tools are getting to be SOP among the forward thinking teams.
  2. Better check those DOB's again. 1 year difference in age
  3. I'm just reporting what Gammons said whether it makes sense or not.
  4. Maybe the Cardinals pull this off, They have a lot of 24 yr. old OF depth, much of it ML ready. Most of it Right handed however. They are looking for a lefty OF. Red Sox probably ask for Dylan Carlson :P.
  5. This thread dead with all the recent new ones but did you see that the Red Sox asked for both Madrigal and Vaughn according to Peter Gammons ? I told you Boston wouldn't want to part with Beni without a decent prospect and they wanted 2 of them !
  6. Well he has to hype the product too. The temptation comes from teams offering things for guys you want to keep like Gio and Robert, Eloy, Moncada, Kopech Cease probably even Lopez I think it's great you are being patient. Still a lot of time to go this off season. I'm expecting a big trade.Prospects will be involved unfortunately but that's where we are at. I know a lot of people love them some Madrigal but he's not a run producer so I'd expect him gone if the Sox do indeed trade prospects.
  7. Ha if you were a fish you'd be on the dinner table along with about 100 others here.
  8. It wouldn't have to be the last move the Sox make. I think too much emphasis is going to the lineup now. We need a 2 starters and a RH handed reliever. Workman is one of the best or was last year and If Benintendi goes with Price in a deal I'd bes shocked unless a team is throwing in a decent prospect player also. You have seen how big contracts have handicapped the Red Sox and the Cubs at the top of the luxury tax level, The Sox will never operate up at that level so every contract close to $100M better be one that we are sure the talent and health is there. Not sure of any of that with Price.
  9. Have you seen how Brandon Workman pitched last year ? Look, the Red Sox have other teams after Price. They certainly don't want to give up Benintendi and the Sox certainly don't want to take all of that contract, The Sox need pitching more than they need Benintendi or yet another DH. How many DH's do we need ? Maybe taking all of that contract gets them to do it more than another offer but really 34 yr old Price for 96$M ? Might as well just pay Bumgarner then. I'm not real keen at helping yet another team get salary relief because they gave out stupid contracts by taking on their stupid contract thus making it our stupider contract because now the guy is old and made of glass . Let Artie Moreno be the idiot bailing out the Red Sox. He doesn't seem to mind ruining his team with stupid contracts.
  10. I was at the Disco Demolition game. I was in Anaheim Stadium when the Sox clinched the pennant in 05. I was in Chicago in September for a hastily put together family reunion to watch my 85 yr old dad throw out the 1st pitch in the Sox DH that got rained out against Detroit. Danny Mendick caught it. It was sort of a commemoration of 4 generations of Sox fans gathered up from around the country for that game.We went to a game one year and I found a picture of my dad and 2 of my brothers in the program in an ad for Family Day in 1974 . The pic was a few years old but there they were. So here's a pic of the scoreboard with my dad and older brother , his great grand son and grandson.
  11. Since Gary Peters, Tommy John and Joel Horlen were pitching for the Sox. I was between 7 and 9 years old then buying baseball cards , watching my older brother imitating Carl Yaztremski's batting stance and him calling me Willie because William is my middle name and McCovey and Mays were very popular.
  12. As a Sox fan for longer than most here I have seen many many bad teams. Players come and go as do FO personnel and owners. If you don't have a sense of humor about it. It will anger you and drive you crazy; You can hope things get better but in the end it usually doesn't work out. That's why a few days ago I made that post about it being so White Sox that the year they and we thought they'd spend the money the FA market goes apeshit after a few depressed years. It's like hey White Sox you are SOL again.
  13. This was truly comic relief especially when you read just about every page on here and jokes are repeated ad nauseam. Bravo.
  14. I will always like a Capt. America reference.
  15. Yea half is about right . That will free up $16M AAV for Bosox for 3 years. Toss us FA in 2021 to be Brandon Workman and it saves then another $3.4 this year. Give them very little back and tell them get your salary relief from someone else if you can because all the FA's are moving fast and they have no luxury tax space to work with. The longer Boston waits the worse it gets for them.
  16. Kind of how I look at it and certainly don't believe it but I'll chime in for fun but I do believe there will be big trade just not sure when. The Winter Meetings and speed of FA signings is leaving the Red Sox in the dust right now. They have to salary relief and it appears they need to do it sooner rather than later. Let's try instead of Benitendi that we get Brandon Workman instead. He could be the RH reliever we want but he is a FA in 2021. Red Sox throw in cash. White Sox give up whoever .
  17. It could mean anything about pitching ,signings, or trades with or without Mazara involved in them There's really no reason to get too specific on what it meant like you have.
  18. Can we just ignore your other 25 posts regarding Mazara and like this more reasonable one ?
  19. Great to see a post from you again. You couldn't have picked a better time /thread to just say a really nice thing like you did. Long live Hawk !
  20. Between Collins and Mazara that would be great. Apparently you still don't understand what upside means. It wasn't a prediction.
  21. Pretty damn good 1st post. Lots of ways to look at this if we even give the Sox front office a little credit which is admittedly hard to do. It's a cheap gamble on his upside, If he hits 30+ HR's next year.they likely get back more in trade than they gave up. If they decide to trade him this off season he is likely more valuable than Steele Walker .There are probably teams out there like the Sox willing to make a cheap gamble on his upside. Always have to keep the next moves in mind which should be centered on pitching. With the FA market for pitching looking more and more expensive maybe the Sox aren't thrilled with the idea of spending too much on Bumgarner,Ryu and Keuchel or even that they have much of a shot of getting them considering the widespread speculation about the Dodgers and others being in on them . They might be lining up a trade for a young controllable pitcher like a Gallen or Snell or whoever with prospects and Mazara as part of the package. I haven't really been thrilled with the idea of trading prospects but maybe you could get someone pretty good with Madrigal, Vaughn,Mazara, Collins, Lopez, and Stiever or some combination. Unfortunately for those who really really wanted to become a 90 win team this year the Sox haven't moved that needle very much and it is scary to think it's kicking the can down the road again. It's always been my position even with getting Wheeler there was only a hope and a dream of winning 90 next year. It is still really early in the off season and just have to see what comes next. Optimism, trust and hope is not a big thing here but that's all we got and it is truly hard to give it to those in charge.
  22. The time Bum missed in 2017 and 2018 were a dirt bike accident and getting hit by a line drive, He was back over 200 IP again last year for the 7th time in 9 years and both those years were freak injuries. I think last year was a nice recovery year from him as evidenced by his increased spin rate and there's a decent chance he is even better in 2020 but still not convinced he won't be way overpaid.
