  1. I don't think any of those things matter that much. Right now the Sox are still a really bad team(albeit much better now that Kopech and Rodon are in the rotation and Giolito apparently having turned it around.) The Yanks and Red Sox are 2 of the best teams in baseball. The Sox have already burned a year of service time on Kopech and though possible its unlikely they do the same with Eloy. Holding both down might've looked suspicious to the players union but calling up Kopech mitigates that. This season is already a lost cause but the death of tanking is more geared toward the off season and next year with a slight boost to our hopes this year with now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel after reaching a low point a month or so ago.
  2. It was actually the 3rd time through the order. It was even pointed out by Benetti as such. We all want to see him start well. I think we are pretty aware he will have growing pains. It's just that he means an awful lot to the success of the rebuild and who really wants to curb their enthusiasm now ? It's exciting watching him pitch. It's the beginning of a new dawn and we are all just soaking in "The Light ."
  3. It's called players weekend. Players wear alternate jersey's and put nicknames on the back or names of friends/ relatives who have passed away or anything really .One player named Boxberger had emoji's of a box and a burger on his jersey. Also bats and cleats could be decorated and colorful. One player had plain white cleats decorated with the names of kids in a hospital he visited with around 80 kids adding their names to his shoes in their own writing . Sox catcher Kevan Smith honored former friend and teammate Daniel Webb who passed away last October by putting Webby on his jersey. Then he proceed to hit a HR in his very 1st swing wearing that jersey and it was his 1st HR of the year. If you think that's strange ., He also named his son after Webb and his son was born with "webbed" toes. https://sports.yahoo.com/kevan-smith-honors-daniel-webb-234934665.html
  4. In honor of the last day of the players weekend congrats to Michael " The Light" Kopech , Adam "The Tease " Engel , Avi " The Enigma" Garcia and Tim "Dandy" Anderson.
  5. I actually contemplated using your thread when constructing my post. I only decided against it to make the contrast between the other threads I listed more stark. But I will say that thread was definitely a prelude to this one.
  6. I thought about calling Moncada "The Way " but the religious aspect, if not apparent with the 1st 2, surely becomes burdensome once I add The Way But I really do want those 3 to put us all on the path to baseball righteousness..
  7. I don;t understand the whole argument of wanting him to stay in the 7th. He had a rough 6th came out of it almost unscathed. Saw comments about bringing him in for 1 more innings or one more batter for various reasons. But he ended his day on a very positive note. What does one more batter or inning accomplish ? All the reasons I saw for keeping him in were things he can do later when he's not at a career high innings pitched, He had already done well getting out of some high stress innings. Injuries can happen at any time but probably more likely when arm is fatigued. I understand trying to uphold your end of the debate but whats done is done and for sound reasons.
  8. Should be a new pitcher for the 7th. Sox will be monitoring his innings for the rest of the year. No reason to push him now . He got 4 more starts yet to go.
  9. Cruisin'....on a sunday afternoon...
  10. That story about Smith and Webb and the Webby jersey is just crazy
  11. Kopech is now The Light Eloy will be The Truth.
  12. It's my Let there be Light Thread of course.
  13. The Detroit Palka , everybody dance !
  14. Wait so potential pieces to the future pen like Burr, Covey, Vieira, Fry and anyone I am forgetting you want them to suck ?I'm not sure if you really mean what you said about losing all but 3 games. What would that accomplish ? First it's not going to happen. Let's say realistically the worst the Sox can do is win another 10ish games . AT this point the Sox probably are stuck right were they are as far as our draft status . We could pass Detroit and lose a spot but it's pretty unlikely we catch the Oriole or Royals . Are we gaining on anyone else we could lose another spot in the draft to besides Detroit ?
  15. I see that a few of you still think Machado will agree to play 3rd base despite all evidence to the contrary from him. Do you think he'll change his mind when huge dollars are thrown at him by teams that say we want to sign you but as a 3rd baseman ? He really hasn't budged on his stance that he is a SS at all.
  16. On August 1st we had a thread that asked "Is This Rock Bottom ? " On August 19th a thread told us "Michael Kopech called up . " Now 4 of our 5 starting pitchers are all key pieces to the rebuild . Can we honestly keep rooting for losses when these guys pitch ? We can't think we can get good pitching and lose enough to continue tanking can we ? Now next year Eloy will be here full time along with some young bullpen arms. Yes the position players are all still pretty much disasters Maybe Abreu , Anderson and Moncada will be here still . In Abreu's case who knows ? Right now we are a team full of DH's and utility players and guys on the cusp of being non tendered or jettisoned in some other fashion. So what's the plan moving forward this off season ? CF looks bleak in free agency and there's not much there for 3rd base either our 2 weakest positions. Machado is presumably a SS . He and Harper don't seem likely but there are still plenty of talented players out there. I think the key might be who is going to get a qualifying offer among the remaining free agents. Until the new CBA it's possible the owners keep the contracts offered to aging players low. If there is a lack of QO's then perhaps the Sox take a bigger plunge into free agency then we might otherwise think. The off season should be very very interesting. Is it worth it to try to give out smaller contracts to guys who can bridge the gap for another year or continue to search for diamonds in the rough? That didn't work out real well this season and I don't expect much help from anyone on Charlotte outside of relief pitchers, With so many holes offensively and defensively even good luck with trades or FA probably doesn't mean the playoffs next year. But with so many holes some have to be plugged right ? It's all not just going to happen overnight and relying on the 2020 free agent class could be a disaster if the Sox strike out there.
  17. Walker 3/6 HR 5 RBi for Kanny. Starting to get his footing .
  18. Nice win. The tank should be declared officially over with 4/5 of the starting rotation all key cogs to the rebuild.
