  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Mar 28, 2016 -> 06:29 PM) Well he's having a good spring. Why not bring him up to DH? He said when he first came here and didn't make the team it messed him up. He seems to have confidence right now. I hope it doesn't destroy it. That's my rationale. It's really great seeing Davidson hitting like he is. Just hope and pray he found something that propels him to stardom. That would be huge for the Sox . Would make Frazier trade bait for some nice assets . We all know what Ishikawa is at this point in his career . I don't exactly know who to want to make the team, If Davidson makes it , how often does he play ? He has to go down and prove all this mashing isn't just a mirage. But I surely don't want Ishikawa on the team . There's just not a lot of upside with him. Carlos Sanchez has been an extra base machine this spring. Again gives me hope that at some point he can be a pretty good little hitter and make Lawrie expendable. Davidson and Sanchez become long term ( cheap )pieces while the 2 year guys , Frazier and Lawrie can be turned into either major or minor league pieces. Ha so much hope in spring. It's embarrassing I still think this way . But it's why baseball is my favorite sport .
  2. Saladino with a solo shot 5-4 Dodgers in the lead after 7 1/2 .
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 26, 2016 -> 06:41 PM) Sands yes, Davidson no chance. But you thought Davidson would be released before Olt )
  4. 1-1 after 2 . Fulmer giving up 4 hits and 2 walks already but minimized the damage. Davidson had doubled ,Shuck single and Saladino sac. fly for the run.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 21, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Who says know to Johnson for Bruce with Reds throwing in 4 mil? Me. Don't want any part of Bruce.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Mar 23, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) There is no doubt the catching position has improved a lot But, but... pitch framing .
  7. The White Sox should... Trade Sale now for a huge package. 49.2% Trade him at the deadline if they're out of contention. 29.4% Keep him no matter what. 21.4% Total votes: 5,879 http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2626274...le-trade-market
  8. I haven't seen Jacob May or Tim Anderson mentioned in these reports for the last 2 weeks. I don't think either one has been sent down yet so hearing about how they have been doing would be appreciated. My own take is both have looked very good.May is an outstanding fielder and has stole a few bases while holding his own at the dish. Anderson has looked better than expected at SS and has shown a quick bat and some pop. Both have outstanding speed.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 12:42 PM) Other team's fans coming with their s***ty trade proposals for Chris Sale is another aspect of this whole thing that pisses me off. If the White Sox do end up trading him it won't be for your minor league trash. Idiots. I wouldn't be surprised if Eaton was traded though not soon. As for Sale, for those of us who would never want to see him traded because of his talent , trading him just became a lot more feasible. For those of us who never understood but wondered why Eaton left AZ. on a sour note, we now understand.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 04:35 PM) That's about right. Which means if it's an important September and a playoff run, he will not be there. ....unless they limit his innings early in the season. Rodon also pitched around 150 innings last year the fewest amount in March/April , 10 innings with Charlotte 3.1 with the Sox. Right around 24- 30 the rest of the months.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) JR gagging RH means he will never have to answer the question as to what his agreement was with LaRoche. hahn saying absolutely nothing speaks volumes. JR is the first to say or release anything having KW's back, and even that was miscommunication, misunderstanding, could have been handled better. I think your right. There has been a rift speculated for a while which I really thought the evidence was weak. But I can't get over HAhns total silence regarding this train wreck. JR did him a favor. Could have been handled "differently" JR said. He didn't say 'better". I'll assume you were paraphrasing what he said instead of changing the wording to fit any agenda.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 11:46 PM) I was watching MLB network a week or 2 ago and they were comparing Marlon Byrd's old stance to his new one. The older stance one they showed looked like Avi. Byrd was on his last legs then changed his stance either because of age or performance issues. Googling some of Byrd's highlights it seems as if he's altered his stance a few time. He used to have an open stance like LaRoche and a high knee lift , bat high slightly behind his head farther back. Now he's more like Rios ,stance not open at all with front leg pointed toward the pitcher, hands lower , bat straight up so less load to his swing, high knee lift gone. He's done a good job because he was released a few years ago and now has been quite valuable. My point being it's the end of the season and Avi should fool around with his stance and hand positioning , leg kick , etc. and see how it feels to him. I know his main issue is probably pitch recognition but if he could get a longer look at the ball, lessen his load, and keep his hands through the zone longer he may improve as Byrd did. I think Stevenson did just as I suggested to Avi.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 03:27 PM) Expecting another Carlos Rodon or Chris Sale situation is pretty crazy. Even Fulmer in September is insanely quick. I'm not expecting it just saying Coop loves the kid and even said he's ahead of where Rodon was this same time last year.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 03:16 PM) Again, if Fulmer is up in June, it means not only did either an injury happen, or we had bad performances out of 4/5 starters, it also means the next guys in line flopped, and did so pretty badly if they are all being quit on that quickly. Respectfully disagree. No sense in wasting time losing games when every game counts. Besides with Latos/Turner/ Johnson as you 5th starter, neither of whom has shown much so far, a quick hook or injury, an early promotion is very possible.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 02:31 PM) Hopefully not until September, because if he is up that early, it means a lot of things went wrong. It could also mean there's no sense letting a better pitcher go to waste in the minors when he could be helping in a pennant race. September always seems to mean you're out of it by then. Replacing even a mediocre pitcher with a better one can always make a difference especially in the post season.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Mar 20, 2016 -> 02:23 PM) based on what the organization has said, I'm gonna guess fulmer is on this team by june It's possible if he is throwing well in the minors. This spring they haven't over exposed him. Today's outing was the longest of the spring. He's learned a lot. Now he just has to apply it and everyone loves his attitude.
  17. Turner out after only 2 innings Fulmer in. It's worth noting Cooper said he thought Fulmer was ahead of where Rodon was at this same time last year.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 07:15 AM) There's a few pieces of the puzzle missing between Kenny's request to " dial it back " and LaRoche retiring over the matter. I think there were players that may have been uncomfortable with constantly watching their language and the content of their discussions as well as a few players may have wanted their kids around more often since LaRoche was able to do so with Drake which would put the FO in a most unenviable position. Of course I'm speculating but there's more to this than what's being reported. Thank goodness AJ isn't still around with his blow up doll
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 17, 2016 -> 06:41 AM) Not at all. If Jose Abreu had a kid in the clubhouse every day, KW wouldn't have said squat. And Soxtalk would be abuzz with what the f*** is KW doing if he actually did and Abreu made a stink over it. I just think the team should have a clear policy one way or the other. You still don't get it. When an employee is bad at his job (LaRoche) and he's getting paid a huge sum of money management has every right to look for causes of the suckiness. If, in their opinion, LaRoche wasn't dedicated enough to his job by the presence of his kid then why can't management ask to curtail the kids presence ? If Abreu, LaRoche or whoever can perform their job well despite distractions why would management ask them to change anything ? Just because no one dare speak that performance is a factor in determining these things doesn't mean it isn't.
  20. Remember the 2002 World Series when JT Snow scooped up Dusty Baker's son as he crossed home plate ?
  21. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Mar 16, 2016 -> 10:24 PM) Bottom line Laroche wasn't told he couldn't have his kid in the clubhouse. People are acting like thats what happened but it didnt. He is there payed to play baseball. His kid being there or not shouldn't justify him to being able to play. If he can't handle stepping onto the field to preform with his son not in the dugout or in the clubhouse then there is a issue. It's not like he's going to another country to play baseball and won't see his kid in months. Might not be a good comparison but we have men and women who serve their country and have families that they leave all the time. They know they have to go and do their job. LaRoche is playing a sport but can't do it with out his kid so he quits. What is wrong with this picture. question raised is why is it a problem now. Something had to have changed since he signed and was allowed to have the kid this whole time with him before. Especially in the last week place since it was reported that Kenny had to talk to him twice about it. If this was an issue last year then why didnt the Sox say something before. Maybe they did but it was never reported. Something has to give. The argument going around somewhat in this thread is if LaRoche had played better it wouldn't be an issue as if the Sox give preferential treatment to good players and its wrong. However if you play badly naturally the club looks for reasons why you have played badly. Having to devote so much time to his son , I could see how management might think he needs to focus more on being a better player. You're getting payed a hefty sum of money to do just that. He's not getting paid $13M to be Mr. Mom but to focus on and play the game at a level commensurate with his salary.
  22. Hanley BS again ? Why can't this die ? I hated it the first time around and still do. Wouldn't take him if he was free.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 15, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) After thinking about this during the evening, I'm not so sure the need to add another outfielder. If LaRoche does retire, it opens the door for the Sox to put one of Avi/Melky in the DH spot and keep one of them off the field which is what many of us wanted all along. Once healthy Eaton can play RF with Jackson in CF and Melky/Avi in LF/DH. Shuck and probably Sands would be the bench outfielders. That's what I thought but still need another LH bat and Morneau fills that void better than LaRoche if he can avoid hurting his head in any way. No headbanging or slaps on the helmet for him during walk offs. Have to beat the Red Sox to the punch since they are interested. Morneau bashes righties and is better than LaRoche against lefties.
  24. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Mar 13, 2016 -> 09:40 PM) With Morneau still looking for a suitor should the White Sox be considering his services in case LaRoche doesn't get healthy? Well it's definitely a strong possibility now and would probably be an upgrade from LaRoche if Morneau can stay healthy. He put up a very good season in 2014 and missed most of last year with his neck and concussion problems but hit the crap out of the ball when he returned in September. He also had good road splits if anyone is worried about the Coors effect and he hits lefties better than LaRoche while his OBP was good too in 2014 and 2015 (very limited AB's). The Red Sox have shown interest in him so if he signs there in the next few days it's probably because they know the White Sox signing him is a possibility. Whoever signs him my guess is it's around $3-5M for 1 year.
  25. Lost in all the hubbub of the day was David Robertson making his 1st appearance of the spring and pitching a scoreless inning.
