  1. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 07:53 PM) Most online stores like BestBuy will only match offers from other online stores that also have storefronts in person, such as Circuit City, Sears, etc. I ended up buying my Panasonic Plasma from BuyDig.com because of it's price and it arrived in perfect shape and I'm loving it. Yeah, I price matched something at CC a little while ago, and they required that it be a B&M store, and that it has to be in stock. I'm pretty sure no B&M will price match Amazon. (Even if they would, tax on something like this runs, I dunno, about $150, I guess. I dunno if CC has a delivery charge. You save money every which way.)
  2. Amazon's at $1800 on the Samsung, plus no tax. Something to weigh against the financing offer.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) Guus are constantly scouted, and I do agree, teams have probably already figured what they are getting if they get Uribe. The problem is Uribe was hurt. Since he has come back, he's made very few starts. Teams need to see him play in order to determine if he is healthy. They don't want to trade for him and a day later put him on the DL. Eh...I know they want to see something, but he started a few times after coming back, a couple times recently, how much do you need? How does he move to his left, to his right...God knows he'll swing enough to please any scout.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 10:02 AM) If teams feel the need to see Uribe in a "showcase" start they are highly misinformed. If the league doesnt know what they are gonna get out of him at this point you sure have some dumbass people running your organization. Agree. Every team has all the video they need at this point. If the Dodgers or Orioles want to see him play live, I'm sure they've already got all the reports in at this point. There's really no mystery left with Juan.
  5. QUOTE (whitesox1976 @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 11:58 PM) Regardless what party a person if affliated with, people should show some respect when they die, wether they were liked or not. It has very little to do with party, and a lot to do with Helms. You wouldn't have seen the same bile had DailyKos diaries been around when Goldwater passed. The diaries having to do with Buckley's death are another example. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 06:46 AM) I'm shocked people voted for him as well, but unless people are trying to revise history and making him out to be godlike in his career, how about just shutting up? (Not you, just people in general) Why start a thread about strong reactions to Helms's death if you aren't willing to have a discussion with people who have a strong reaction to Helms's death? And for the record, "shutting up" is exactly what I did. I heard the news almost as soon as it broke, and I came to Soxtalk thinking I'd start a thread on it. But after thinking about it, I decided it was best to ignore the news. I did not want to respect or disrespect the man. (Which is, btw, what DailyKos did -- there was no actual story about Helms's death.) But I don't understand why you would start a thread like this if you are unwilling to deal with such posts.
  6. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) No, I am not gloating about anything nor am I rooting for him to die. I was merely pointing out that this type of thing is in poor judgment and both sides do it; you seem to support the Helms gloating. I am sure you would not approve of any blog postings, which appear on the same day of Kennedy's death, which pointed out all the facts of the drowning Kennedy was involved in. You are obviously getting very angry now that your hypocritical stance has been called into question, so I think we should end this discussion. And I really disliked Helms anyways, so arguing this is not something I want to do. Wrong on every count. I don't support the Helms gloating (I'm indifferent to it), I have no problem with blogs covering "the facts" of Chappaquiddick today, then, or ever, nor am I angry.
  7. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) I didn't mean that i would be the one to say things, but if how you lived defines what people say about you in death, then break out the popcorn for those 3, it should be really interesting. Well, except you just did. Again, you're bringing up "popcorn", like it's enjoyable, something to watch. I'm haven't said anything like that. And the last blog you complained about, again, did nothing but state facts.
  8. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) I don't think there was any gloating there. He said to be prepared for Chappaquiddick to come up, and that perhaps he will go to hell. Not quite the same. Any person suggesting that another person will go to hell is gloating. And mentioning grave dancing, yeah, that's gloating.
  9. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) That's true. But be prepared when Ted Kennedy dies to hear a lot about that girl he let drown to save his own ass. Perhaps T.Kennedy will be burning in hell with Jessie Helms and both right and left wing can dance on some graves. Whats worse, being racist or deciding your political career is more important than your friends life? Personally, I think it's tasteless to be cheering for people to die. Oh well. You say it's tasteless, but you're gloating about Chappaquiddick and Kennedy going to hell. Naturally. I was talking about one particular blog that was cited. One that didn't mention Helms burning in hell or dancing on graves (it did little more than quote his own words and summarize them, accurately, as "hateful"). I certainly didn't say anything celebratory about Helms's death. You brought the death-party into the discussion, in looking forward to the death of a living Senator. If you think it's tasteless, maybe, I dunno, don't f***ing do it?
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 08:30 PM) Well then I can't wait for the posts when Teddy finally croaks. Or Jessie Jackson Or Al Sharpton Yeah, that classlessness clearly bothers you quite a bit.
  11. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 07:19 PM) How you live affects how people react when you die. Yup. The last blog cited is pretty objective. He was racist. He was homophobic. It's not classless to report what a man actually said and believed.
  12. The Colombian military freed 15 FARC hostages, including 3 Americans as well as Ingrid Betancourt, a Colombian politician. The whole story is worth checking out. And the man in charge of checking the medical condition of the freed American hostages? Col Jackie Hayes. If that doesn't promise quality, I don't know what does. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/04/world/am...s/04rescue.html
  13. QUOTE (TCQ @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 11:57 AM) ^^^ook....um i guess you have to be a herpes infected womanizing mulatto to get any respect in baseball? is that what your getting at It's from The Dugout. (If you haven't heard of it, just google "The Dugout".)
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 11:07 AM) Farmer is awful as a PBP guy, Stone really helps him bring some better knowledge and objectivity to the broadcast, but Stoney and Hawk would be superior than them IMO. I really wish they would have kept Rooney since Farmer is clearly the weakest radio guy we had. Disagree. I'm a huge Farmer fan. No way is he weaker than Singleton, nor Hawk, for that matter. I'll be supremely pissed if they ever get rid of him.
  15. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:51 AM) Is that confirmed though? I read on the Orlando Sentinel he's close to accepting a 3 year $10M deal with the Magic (which would take us out of the Maggette negotiations, and Keyon Dooling won't be back). Also you guys know more about Duhon than I do. I've read he's supposedly an "elite defender". Is that really the case? I don't think anything's confirmed at this point, but rotoworld seems pretty sure that's the offer. But it sounds like he's leaning towards Orlando now. "Elite"? Really? I think Sefalosha is the best backcourt defender the Bulls have, but I wouldn't even call him "elite".
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:51 PM) Seems like a nice enough guy, but never really developed any chemistry with Hawk. I'd almost rather Stoney stayed paired with Farmer. They're quite good together, despite Farmer still being somewhat away from his strength at play-by-play. Agree with all of this.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 03:07 PM) ^ That. Also, Memphis is the other tea with cap room. Oh, and Duhon agreed with the Knicks. 2 years, 11.5 mil. He'll get to party all he wants in NY. Thanks. 2 years, huh?
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 03:35 PM) If all it takes is the MLE, I think the Bulls would be stupid not to go after Magette. But knowing Pax, he'll sit on his hands like always. Who are the two teams with cap space? I know Philly was one of them, but they're unlikely to go after Maggette. But I can't remember who the other team was... Boston supposedly made an offer to Maggette. That would suck.
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) Well, before the draft some people were saying he might project to a 3 in the NBA anyway. Not to say he won't play PF, but I don't think moving him to SF would hurt anything. His height profiles more as a 3, but he plays an inside game. He'll score at whatever position, but you're limiting his rebounding ability and asking him to defend along the perimeter. (Not that defense is his strong suit, anyway, but you'd like to play him where his defense is 'less weak'.) It wouldn't be a disaster, but it's not the best use of his skills.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) Here's the link to the story i'm talking about. wite's still right, though, Gallardo is not a good example. It's not even a disagreement on the principle, just saying, a freak injury like that obviously has nothing to do with his workload.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) I heard that he wants to stay in LA or sign with MIA. Has he said anything about Miami, or is it just that Miami would like to get him (which has been rumored for a while now)? It would be a tough sell now that Beasley is down there, especially when they already have Haslem and Marion. Even if you trade Marion, do you play Beasley at the 3 to accommodate Brand?
  22. Oh, plus, Brand has been saying that he wants to resign with the Clippers. Doesn't mean he won't listen to other teams, but he seems to be serious about it.
