  1. "Maybe the dumbest email of the night: With Beasley in the NBA, will Dwayne Wade see much playing time?"
  2. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) "Derrick Rose has been here just 8 minutes and he already knows not to pass to Aaron Gray" Aww, man...
  3. "Derrick Rose, been here for 8 minutes, and already knows not to pass to Aaron Gray." Okay, I like Gray, I think he looked good for a backup center, but that's pretty funny.
  4. Announcer 1: He's been known to do that in summer league, he takes 3s. Announcer 2: He eats souls. So random & so funny.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 04:00 PM) I didn't know what you meant until I tuned in on nba.com. Wow, this is bad. How did Rose do the first couple games? This IS the first game. Bulls just started playing. Rose is 1, I dunno what Beasley is. First game was the Pacers-Thundercats. (Announcers gave that name to OKC. I'm still not sure who Lion-O is supposed to be. And yes, they really were calling someone Lion-O.) Tyrus blocked Beasley on a move to the basket. Beasley's looked good, Chalmers too. Rose's been okay, not doing much so far.
  6. Game 1 going into the 4th quarter now. The camerawork at most high school games puts this to shame, but the announcers are entertaining enough.
  7. Peter King: Favre will ask to be taken off the retired list within the next 10 days. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...avre/index.html I can't imagine the Packers break camp with both Favre and Rodgers in tow.
  8. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 11:04 AM) Are both Rose and Beasley playing? I was reading something about Rose having knee tendonitis and Beasley took a elbow to the chest the other day Rotoworld had a blurb this morning saying they were both expected to play.
  9. For anyone interested in watching Bulls summer league games, they're streaming them on: http://www.nba.com/magic/news/summerleague.html I believe they're free (ie, not part of a subscription package), but don't pour sugar in my gas tank if I'm wrong (in that case, I won't be getting it either, so I'll be just as pissed). 1st game is at 3 pm, second game is just 10 (20?) min after the first one ends, and so on. (Though these games will move a little quicker than standard NBA games.) 3 games per day for the next 5 days. Today's game is the Beasley and the Heat against Rose and the Bulls (2nd game). Let the debate resume!
  10. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) I'm not denying that they got a good player (or that CC is much more valuable than Linebrink), but they gave up a younger, cheaper player that would be worth a lot more than a half year of a Cy Young pitcher. I understand their view, and I realize that LaPorta didn't have a spot on the Brewers current roster with Braun and Fielder taking his two positions. I also realize that this move is big for their fan base and is a money maker for them. However, they aren't going to resign him and they gave up a player who's going to be tearing apart pitching in a year or two for the league minimum. Personally, I think 6 years of LaPorta is more valuable than a half season of CC. Just me though. Okay, but you also have to consider the two prospects they'll get in the offseason (I know they're not LaPorta and haven't done anything in the minors yet, but top draft picks aren't picked out of a hat, either), and the fact that half a season of CC is particularly valuable to the Brewers right now, when they're contending and have a healthy Sheets. Probably just for another week or so, but still... 1/2 season of CC for a contending team + 2 high draft picks ~= LaPorta, imo.
  11. QUOTE (feistyboy @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) I dont like Federer at all and think he is one of the most overrated of all time greats who was super lucky with timing. Dont get me wrong, he is outstanding player still, but he could easily be only a 4 or 5 time slam winner without certain factors working in his favor IMO, and I laugh at the Sampras comparisions since I think Sampras at his peak would school him. Nadal is really a far more talented overall player IMO and it is nice to see him taking over the mens game. Don't agree with...any of that, actually. It was a great match, but I thought that was largely because Federer was off his game. He was just sloppy, hitting relatively easy balls into the net time and again. That was the only disappointing part of the match, imo. Federer kicks Sampras's ass. Straight sets, baby.
  12. QUOTE (Felix @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) There's no way CC resigns with the Brewers, and really, I find this to be a stupid deal. They gave up a top prospect for a half year of CC. They did the same thing with Linebrink, and it was stupid then and remains to be stupid now. Maybe if he was the one piece keeping them from a World Series would it be smart, but thats not the case. Sure, the picks from CC are nice compensation at the end of the year, but they aren't nearly as certain as a player like LaPorta is (which isn't to say LaPorta is certain, but a player that has already done stuff in the minors is more of a sure thing than picks for players they don't even know will be around). That's too critical. Sure, they're giving up more than they'll get in draft picks, but that's the price you pay to get the reigning CY winner for half a season (and a completely deserving CY, too). He's way, WAY more valuable than Linebrink. I'm not going to say he IS the missing piece, but if they get lucky with Sheets's health, I wouldn't rule it out.
  13. QUOTE (Wedge @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) That might be true, but I think the hidden loss here is that the Indians most likely lose the "hometown discount" in an attempt to resign Sabathia. I think this is a pretty significant trade, at least symbolically. If you trade away your ace for prospects a minimum of 1-2 years from MLB, doesn't that indicate you don't expect to contend for 1-2 years? LaPorta could be ready at some point next year. He's destroying AA right now, and he's 23, so you're looking for him to be ready next year, or the year after at the latest. All Cleveland is saying is that they aren't competing this year.
  14. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) Good grief that was a bad decision. So help me God, I actually laughed at this.
  15. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Im not gonna be convinced with Gallardo until he gets over his severe case of Kerry Wood-itis Apparently I missed a LOT of Kerry Wood basepath collisions.
  16. When do they announce the injury replacements? They already know Ortiz won't play, so why not just name his roster replacement now? (Hint, hint, JD, hint, hint.)
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 03:27 PM) He didn't? No. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...8&fext=.jsp
  18. Attention: Francona. Did. Not. Choose. Varitek. Any further questions?
  19. Oh, but Federer's got to lose that sweater. I don't usually care about that stuff, but I'm really hating on this preppy comeback.
  20. I like them both; I found myself rooting for one, then the other. I felt bad for Nadal with that first rain delay, though. He was just so dominant up to that point, and you hate to see something like that decide a match.
  21. And it's Nadal. He deserved it. Great match.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) This is the biggest travesty in years, IMO. Obvious favoritism between manager and player. I also have a problem with Floyd or Danks getting snubbed by Ervin Santana. I think that's the player vote, not Francona.
  23. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 02:48 PM) Jason Varitek over AJ...........What a joke That is one dumb ass f***ing pick.
