  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 11:32 AM) That shouldn't change someone being a life-long fan of a team. Must not be a big fan to begin with. If you're die-hard, nothing would change it. Maybe if I had a parent who went to Illinois and bled orange and blue it would have been different*. But I was an Illinois fan for the simple fact that I grew up in Chicagoland. Did I root for them, watch all the football/basketball games, follow recruiting? Yeah. But I'll readily admit that I was as never as big an Illinois fan as I am an Indiana fan. And that seems right to me, since I actually went to Indiana and have all those experiences tied up in it. But at the same time, while you and Jenks can't believe someone would switch allegiances so easily, I can't believe someone would actively root against the college they're attending. That always blew my mind. *This makes sense, because my dad was always much more into Bears/White Sox than he was Illinois, so it's not like I became a Vikings and Twins fan when I moved to Minnesota. Moving to a different city is also way different than attending a different college than the one you grew up rooting for, though.
  2. I liked the inning where they had all four on as well, but that's because it meant it was the one inning I got to hear Paciorek. I have grown to like the Twins team of Dick Bremer and Blyeven though. They're solid.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 12:41 AM) Wasn't a fan of tonight's newsroom. Kind of a strange story there with Sloane's leaked nude pics, but it was worth it to see Olivia Munn kick a guy in the nuts and smash his face.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) HS pitcher would def be out of the norm for the Sox. Last was Honel? Before that Stumm? Not a great track record with those guys. Although we did trade for Danks/Floyd. Does any team really have a great track record with high school pitchers in the 1st round? There's not a riskier pick.

Newsroom kicked some serious ass tonight. Since I don't really take it seriously, True Blood had me laughing all the way through. If I tried to take it seriously, pretty much everything would have been ridiculous. Terry and Lafayette shimmying with the fries was hysterical.
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 05:57 AM) Where does Phegley stand after 77 plate appearances? I was gonna say, give the kid a chance. He hasn't even been up here two months.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:18 PM) TOTALLY DIFFERENT YOU GUYS. The funny thing is that when Eric Gordon decommitted from Illinois and switched to Indiana, I was an Illini fan. Then three months later Indiana gave me the best offer out of all my college apps and I decided to go there for school...and promptly switched my allegiances to Indiana. You know what the really, really funny thing is? When he did this, I didn't blame him for it. I thought his dad was sketchy (still do), but didn't blame Gordon himself. So I got to be the odd man out among Illini fans when it happened, but now if I disagree on that situation it will probably be assumed I'm doing so just because I went to Indiana. EDIT: More to the point, I didn't blame Gordon OR Sampson when I was still an Illini fan. I think Sampson is a scumbag for other reasons, but it has nothing to do with Gordon and never did for me.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) I think it's interesting the millennial high support for legalization while also seeing a big decline in actual usage. I haven't heard this before. Just among millennials, or across all groups?
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) I have a hard time believing it's toilet paper. But my Double Plush Quilted Northern is so soft....
  10. Apparently weed will fry your brain. And weed activists will completely counteract what you're trying to teach your children, or something like that. The only even remotely valid point he makes is that people want weed legalized for recreational, and not medical, purposes. Unfortunately for him, I think everyone already knew that. This was the best part:

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:43 PM) Something strange is going on. It has been removed from on demand (Directv) as well as the Showtime Anytime app. This better not mean the plug was pulled. Best show of the spring. Actually, Justified may have been the better Spring season show this past year, but I would still be angry if Shameless were cancelled.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 04:35 PM) Trusting the word of 15 year olds is dumb. That's why my excitement over Lyles and Blackmon was always tempered. Anytime a kid commits before his junior year, I take it with a big grain of salt. When the commitment comes before he's even played a high school game (as was the case with Lyles and Blackmon), I think I'd probably be more surprised if they signed with the original school than if they didn't. Blackmon claims he's still looking at IU but uh...yeah right.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 07:27 PM) Well that's a sadly insane suggestion. That's a good way to put it.

The Bridge was really good tonight. I'm having trouble keeping everyone straight, though. There's a lot of characters.

QUOTE (juddling @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) There are worse shows to binge watch I guess....but be forewarned....(to me) the show consistently gets up to the line of being very good and then it backs off. and on an unrelated note.....is it me or has Suits been knocking it out of the park this season(not that they haven't in the past)?????????? Last night's episode was great.
  16. I don't buy that most people, and even the media, predominantly call it the Madhouse on Madison. Is it a nickname that's used? Yes. But United Center is used a significant majority of the time. There's no way the nickname "Madhouse on Madison" is used often enough to justify United being reasonably upset about it, either.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 01:10 PM) To me the title was meant to be a mocking of people making a big deal of drug suspensions. That's what I took from it.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) I'm not really looking for a job, but I applied to one the other day and it brought up the memories of horror of trying to find one when I was unemployed. I'm going through the checklist "under job requirements" for this job and there's about 10 bullet points or so. As I keep going down, each one I say to myself "oh, I fit that one perfectly!" and so on. Judging by the write up, I couldn't be more of a perfect candidate for what their looking for. I'm a better fit there than at my current job. So of course I get my hopes up thinking they'd hire me on the spot after seeing that great resume of mine. And of course I don't even end up hearing back from them. Ah, oh well. One of those things that just happens and it sucks. I definitely know what you mean on thinking you're perfect and they'll hire you on the spot. I'll see a job listing and let my mind run ahead of itself and have to bring myself back to reality. No fun.
  19. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 12:30 AM) Yea, it's called Evanston-Wilmette Community Golf Course now. I'd tell you to drive another 10 minutes west to the Wilmette Golf Club for a solid municipal course experience, but they just closed down for a complete renovation. It's going to be gorgeous when it reopens next year, though.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) I rent alot of cars and Ive come away impressed lately with the hyundai's ive driven. Alot of features and a strong engine. I've only thought about this in general terms since it's a few years off, but I think I'm going to go with a Hyundai (either the Tucson or Santa Fe, or whatever their small SUV is called at that point). Whatever it is, it sure as hell won't be another Volkswagen.

Newsroom great again. Ray Donovan getting better...I think...
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 4, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Walked 18 holes today on a mostly par 3 golf course in Evanston (about 4-5 holes were Par 4). I absolutely sucked on the front 9, I just wasn't getting solid hits at all. The back 9 however I par'd 4 holes (2 of them par 4s). Felt good to finish the day strong on a really narrow golf course (which does not suit me well). Peter Jans or Frank Govern or whatever the hell they call it these days, the course right on the canal in Evanston and Wilmette?
  23. That's pretty great. "How many countries are in this country?"
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) Huh, is that supposed to be funny. Bad satire if you ask me. Yeah. It elicited a "What was I supposed to be reading?" reaction from me.
