  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 28, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) http://instagram.com/p/bEyXDGJy9-/# My favorite comment: "You're pathetic for posting this. At least he's been on a winning team. Unlike you. Nobody even knows or cares about you." -nepatriotsfan
  2. Crawford's speech was the best. By far. Also most hilarious. And Duncan Keith going Braveheart was pretty fantastic.
  3. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) And that explanation would still be bulls*** to me. You guys are smart, I can't believe you buy that crap. This issue isn't about a change in science or a change in understanding. They voted to keep homosexuals from being recognized as married under Federal law with the full knowledge of all of the arguments for and against. And now they're praising the SC decision as if they had no part in it. It's disgusting, and yes, there are a million other similar example of why politicians are awful human beings. This is just the latest example. Most of these guys actually quoted probably didn't change their views from 1996 to now. But plenty of Americans did*. Numbers alone suggest some of those people who changed their minds are also politicians. Whether or not they're the same politicians who voted for DOMA is irrelevant, considering the broad brush you're painting all politicians with -- which is precisely why choosing this political issue is puzzling. *No, I don't have any data to support this. But there's enough anecdotal evidence that I'm comfortable saying it.
  4. They should have phrased it along the lines of "I have seen why I was wrong to enact DOMA in the first place" etc etc but I don't think it's as bad as you want it to be. Or rather, there are likely way better examples of dems and the GOP completely reversing course on something.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) Yeah, Hernandez is f***ed http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown...-204349177.html I think if I'm a rental car agency, I wouldn't just throw a shell casing away.
  6. Not surprising. Guess Tennessee's late push wasn't strong enough.
  7. QUOTE (SnB @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 05:03 PM) Haha, I pass this everyday on the way to work as well. I wonder if the two of you have given each other the finger while driving before.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) So we're thinking of having the wedding at the house in the spring of next year...i HATE weddings, especially really formal weddings. I want it to be really casual, but not disrespectful, I guess...anyone think doing a few food trucks for the catering would be cool? That would be a really neat idea if done well. I have no idea how to do it well though, hah! At my brother's wedding, the open bar started serving an hour before the "ceremony" started (the ceremony was in the same room as the reception; the ceremony was literally less than five minutes and not religious). That was pretty cool.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) Or the "gun/rap/video game/gang culture" is the scapegoat that masks the real debate. In other words, if the person who committed the crime was Joe Borchard, a Stanford player and son of a migrant/farming family...then it would totally change the media slant and we'd actually have to ask more penetrating/probing questions about guns. I don't think he presented it as a scapegoat so much as an issue that has to be dealt with either prior to or simultaneously a discussion on gun control.
  10. Hell f***ing yes. Really wished I was in Chicago right now.
  11. Interesting read. Not so much directly a comment on gun reform as it is gun/rap/gang culture.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) Oh, if there are no kids yet, then I think divorce is more of an option, but once you have kids, getting divorced for any reason other than abuse (physical and/or emotional) or serial adultery is very selfish. I'm not sure how I would handle this because I've never had to, but I think some might quibble with the "serial" qualifier.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 12:36 PM) Wonder if today's events will have any impact on china's participation in this exercise. Did I miss something big happening today?
  14. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) I thought it was always George Bush's fault? Well duh, that way you can blame two for the price of one.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 23, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) What is Ecuador's gameplan with hosting these international fugitives? Yeah it seems like a strange route to take.
  16. Just saw some blurb that Ecuador announced via twitter that Snowden had contacted them seeking asylum.
  17. That's awesome! New house, new car, now a fiancee...don't know how anything could top that for you!
  18. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) How did he get it? They do not distribute anywhere between Colorado and Pennsylvania. Not sure. He was just really excited a few months ago because he was trying it at long last. I'll have to ask him. EDIT: Some people he knew went on a vacation to California and brought it back for him.
  19. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) Good luck. Russian River has pretty limited distribution. One of my college roommates lives in Madison now and was head over heels when he finally got to try Pliny the Elder.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 18, 2013 -> 11:45 AM) Yeah that bulls*** justification came out today when the NRA director said they've thwarted 50 something attacks but refused to go into detail. And they can do that indefinitely, "oh trust us, we're keeping everyone safe." What? EDIT: I assume that's a typo for "NSA" but it's still funny.
  21. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) Still think Lyle ends up at Louisville. Really want Exum and that looks really good right now for Indiana. IU jumped into Leron Blacks recruitment with two feet and he's already planning a visit. The religion factor is huge here and he loves Crean already. Blackmon, Exum, Okonoboh, and Black looks like a real, real possibility. Yeah, I saw Black mention he really likes the Christian angle. I get annoyed hearing it every other word from Crean, but hey, if it gets recruits I'll take it.
  22. Maybe he meant that instead of those companies flexing their legal power, they should have flexed their PR power to turn the court of public opinion against the government, regardless of the Patriot Act ostensibly allows. Not sure if it would have worked, but I thought that's what he meant.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) They're not banks. (I can't tell if I'm being sarcastic). I wouldn't know whether to be sarcastic in that situation either. I'm trying to find ways to analogize the Googles of the world to the banks in this context, but I can't quite get it down either.
  24. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) Then why didn't any of them do it? I have to assume their legal teams understand and explained the consequences. No idea. Maybe it's not at the point yet where the corporations think they can take on the government and win. I'm just saying that I think not too far down the road, a corporation might take that gamble. If they wanted to Google could run a better surveillance network than most countries. For all we know they already do. And, if they were to hypothetically be conducting such a program, they could definitely use it as leverage against the government.
