  1. QUOTE (MEANS @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:24 AM) yes, I saw them open for Soundgarden recently and was very impressed. He went out into the crowd/lawn area and couldn't get back to the stage, which was pretty funny. Yeah, he did the same thing last night. Made a full circuit of First Avenue during a pretty solid cover of Come Together. Multiple women were grinding up on him and doing everything they could to get him to not move. Part of me wanted them to let him get back to the stage, but if I were in their shoes, I'd probably do everything I could to keep him right there, too.
  2. Exum might just skip college and go straight to the draft, though. He can since he's an international player.
  3. Saw Bush tonight. Gavin Rossdale is quite the showman.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) I had one of those, brand new, last 15 months. It's been great so far for me (7 months). I got it on the recommendation of my old roommate who's in a Computer Science Ph. D program, so I assume he at least knows something about what he's talking about? He said everyone he knew had either a Macbook Pro or a Lenovo Thinkpad (and he himself has a Thinkpad). In any case, it's like anything else -- know what you what in a computer, look around, take what you read here/elsewhere, and then make the best decision for you.
  5. I didn't like Dell anymore either so I switched over to Lenovo. Love my Thinkpad.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 21, 2013 -> 11:11 PM) Was it Morrison or Manzarek that named the group? I remember the quote being from William Blake, about "once the doors of perception are removed...yadda yadda" Have to get my copy of my favorite high school book of all-time and look it up...the Morrison biography that was turned into The Doors movie by Oliver Stone (and gave us Meg Ryan's first nude scene). If you want to be technical, I think they got the name from the Huxley's Doors of Perception, the title of which Huxley took from Blake.
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) Saw the Trek movie, in 3D, and I have to say... not nearly as good as the last one. The flash and dash was good, and at least in 3D was even a little too much to follow. But the plot, much of the acting, story devices, even the dialogue really fell flat, in my view. The snappy feel of the previous movie was partially lost, and the intensity was severely lacking (replaced with loudness, which is not the same thing), except from Cumberbatch who was fantastic. Without him, this was a pretty garbagy movie. I was disappointed. Completely agree. This one can't even hold the first's jock strap. Cumberbatch was awesome; everything else was pretty bland (though Quinto was good again). The biggest problem, IMO, is that I didn't really feel like it was building to a climax. I kept thinking, "Wait, is this the end? Or is there more? What about now, is this the end?" Also agree on the loudness/intensity comment.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ May 22, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) Pinson a Tarheel Can't blame him for wanting to stay close to home. I wish him well, from what I've read he seems like a good kid.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 21, 2013 -> 10:44 AM) Oh totally. I don't blame Apple at all for being smart. I don't think they have "personal responsibility" to pay money to the government because they have it. But I do have a problem with "i'm with main street, not wall street" politicians that clearly don't give a s*** about main street. Agreed; also, for those who have a problem with this (myself included), the anger should be directed at those making the rules, not at Apple.
  10. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ May 19, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Theo Pinson to announce Wednesday. Apparently, IU has a pretty good chance Yeah, Pinson said IU was looking pretty good as of a weekend ago. Who knows, though. When his final choices are Duke, Georgetown, Indiana, Louisville and North Carolina, he can't really go wrong.
  11. QUOTE (G&T @ May 16, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) Food absorbs alcohol thus spacing out the time it takes for the alcohol to enter your system. As you drink you will be eliminating alcohol. So if you lengthen the absorption time, there will be a more time to eliminate thus keeping your BAC a bit lower. However if you've already been drinking then food isn't going to do much. Yeah, I meant after you've been drinking. That's what I figured. Who needs Google when you can ask Soxtalk.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 16, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) I do the 4 beer thing too, but I will do 5 if I am somewhere for 4-5 hours. Regarding that gray area of should I or shouldn't I...I basically will imagine myself behind the wheel, and if I question myself whatsoever, I find a ride. This is exactly what I do. If I have any question at all about my ability to drive, even just a tiny one, then I don't drive. Either find a ride or wait. To clarify in terms of making yourself "feel" less drunk, eating more/drinking water doesn't actually lower your BAC, it just makes you feel less drunk, correct?
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 15, 2013 -> 09:14 PM) This required another thread? Well there's still that weird Alford one going on in the Sports Pub too.
  14. The fact that Indiana and Purdue only play each other once is idiotic. Give us a break, we're both bad at football.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 13, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) It sucks, however it opens me up for the twins game on tuesday night, on the road. We've switched places, I'm briefly in Chicago. You been to Target Field before? Absolutely gorgeous. Make sure to get a Kramarczuk's brat. Would have preferred a Tuesday start for the Hawks also. Oh well.
  16. I have no idea what Fibonacci Day is necessarily, but wouldn't it have been yesterday? 5-8-13 makes more sense than 5-9-13. EDIT: Though I suppose that wouldn't make sense for any year but 2013, so...carry on. Could be his birth, I guess.
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ May 9, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) Ha, Notre Dame looked godawful against ISU. Speaking of which, Doc Sadler is apparently leaving Kansas for Iowa State. Hopefully he helps us play defense. Nebraska did have some decent defensive teams during his tenure, IIRC.
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ May 9, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) PTI says the woman who flipped off Noah is on her 4th husband. One of her previous husbands was found dead. Amazing how they find that out. Not only was he found dead, but apparently the guy's brothers thought she did it. I also liked when her daughter said "she's still really hot" in response to internet people calling her ugly.
  19. Hah, I like how it's hiding out in a cool gray box.
  20. Too bad they couldn't get the shot clock lowered. 35 is way too much. Doesn't need to be 24, but maybe 30 would work.
  21. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2013 -> 04:49 PM) Of Mice and Men was the one w/ George the mentally handicapped fellow, right? Yeah.
  22. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 9, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) When did Spark overtake Cliff on the lazy student market? No later than early 2000s, because when I was in high school, Spark Notes had the lazy student market cornered. At least at New Trier that's what people used.
  23. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 9, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Am I the only one who found The Great Gatsby book in HS to be extremely boring? I mean, I'll admit I only read about 5% of the assigned books throughout grade school/high school/college, but I remember the Spark Notes being incredibly boring w/ that book. I guess I just don't get it, or I'm not cultured enough. Wait, are you saying the book was boring based off the Spark Notes of the book? If that's the case, you didn't find the Great Gatsby to be extremely boring. You found the Spark Notes version of the Great Gatsby to be extremely boring.
  24. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 9, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Nope. I agree with you. I read it like 4 years ago and was bored out of my mind. I kept reading only to say I've read the book. Hah, what's that Mark Twain quote? "A classic is a book everyone wants to have read, but doesn't want to read?"
  25. I don't know how much traction this would give with Eron, though, since Eric was already here. I suppose it will help since Eric Gordon played under Sampson (and Dakich!), not Crean.
