Hah, that was amusing. Was Polik kicked out of the game?

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 03:15 PM) He was a true icon and there aren't too many people like him. Supporter of the arts (much more than that later of course) and one of the people you can say legitimately improved society and culture with his existence. We lost a great one. He seemed like a guy that was opinionated and would stick to his guns, but his heart was in the right place. Can't ask for much more than that. He'll be missed.

Maybe they'll screw with everyone and launch something at Beijing. You know, something totally out of the blue.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) They promised Tubby they would do that and never did. Why would they do it for a no-name coach without anything career-wise to hang his hat on? I'm not saying they will do it, I'm saying if they want a competitive basketball program they have to do it. I know they promised Tubby new facilities -- I'm curious if the fact that there's a different AD now (Norwood Teague, the guy who hired Anthony Grant and Shaka Smart at VCU) will change that. I'm hopeful it will, but I have my doubts.

Medcalf's right: Unless Minnesota puts a hefty amount of money into new basketball facilities, it likely won't matter how good of a coach Pitino turns out to be.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) What I read elsewhere is that these proms are held by private groups, not the school, and that the school doesn't hold its own prom. Still, that's f***ing ridiculous. One of the comments in the article I linked said that schools would have their own "official" prom that everyone was invited to, but that most people went to the "invitation only" prom.

Official Recruiting Thread II
QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 11:20 AM) IU recruit Luke Fischer, Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin. Heard great things about Loving. Irvin really turned it on late his junior year and never slowed down. I've read some people who think Fischer will come in and start right away. I haven't seen too much video of Fischer, but I was under the impression he would probably be at about 10 minutes a game as a freshman. A little more playing time than Hollowell got this year.

Nowhere else to really put this but... Jebus, please tell me schools don't really have segregated proms still.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 08:15 AM) I still get sad when I think that my future offspring won't know the excitement of going to the video store to rent a movie or game. There was something oddly fun about sitting on the floor in the corner of Blockbuster with 6 movies at in front of you trying to figure out which one or two you were going to rent.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 04:46 PM) lol Not even going to respond. I just hope that an Illinois recruit wants to transfer after his first year to Indiana. Because Illinois fans were never mad about Eric Gordon, and were so supportive of his decision. I think Jenks was joking. Though it would be pretty impressive if Bo Ryan could restrict a Minnesota player's release.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) Minnesota to hire Richard Pitino (yes, related, his son) to replace Tubby Smith. Could be a home run or a strike out. I like it, though.

Triggers that remind you of the White Sox
A few... Journey Your Love Tornado Sirens (My dad was a kid in 1959. When the Sox won the pennant, Daley had the air raid sirens turned on, and he loved the celebration so much he had to be a White Sox fan despite the fact that his dad liked the Cubs. My dad of course then passed his White Sox fandom down to me.)

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) Haha, sorry, not like "selling out" like going corporate or whatever, I mean it's passes sold out in a few hours last week. It sold out before they sent me the email letting me know tickets were on sale. Super annoying. Oh! Ok. I do remember my Facebook newsfeed having a few complaints about tickets selling out so quickly.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 08:12 AM) North Carolina Republicans file a bill to nullify the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment: http://www.wral.com/proposal-would-allow-s...olina/12296876/ I don't think it works that way.... And by "it" I mean being a remotely productive legislator.
