  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Got promoted today. Woohoo! Excited?
  2. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) I could care less about the speeches, long, short, good or bad. But yeah, cutting down nets, wearing championship hats, and getting the trophy after that? That's silly. Two things come to mind. 1. IU had no backup plan in case of a loss and 2. They've forgotten what winning is like so much that they forced themselves to go through with it because they want to celebrate anything and everything. 2 is somewhat close to the truth. The way I see it, IU has had such a terrible past few years, and now we want to take advantage of every "good" (ie, winning at least a share of the Big Ten crown) thing we can. Therefore, we wanted to have all the pomp and circumstance of getting to cut down the nets. Unfortunately, yesterday's game was the only remaining home game. So it's a tough circumstance. Personally, I wouldn't have done it in this situation. Have some private ceremony with just players/family later. Maybe not ideal, but better than at 1 in the morning after a loss.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) He was blubbering the entire time. I've never attended a senior night so maybe thats the norm. I'm given to understand IU generally does more (including longer speeches, hah) for Senior Night than most schools anyway. As for crying, I've seen some players tear up. I haven't been able to watch the speeches yet so I can't comment on these ones specifically. That said, I couldn't care less if Hulls sobbed his way through his entire speech. The speech was for Indiana and its fans, no one else. It's gotta be even more emotional for these seniors since they entered at absolute rock bottom and have a chance to leave as high atop the mountain as you can get. Not a fan of cutting down the nets, though. Makes it seem like you've already achieved something (which I guess we have, but still) when there's so much more to earn.
  4. Beat Michigan and all will be forgiven. But we might want to stop turning the ball over first. And just not play poorly in general.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) I fear Ohio State more than Indiana and I say that as a fan of a team that has beaten them both. I probably fear Michigan the most, though. In mid-late January, I thought Michigan was, if ever so slightly, the clear-cut #1 team in the country. The problem is that they've been exposed as being too reliant on Burke, and the freshmen hit a bit of a wall. If the freshmen, especially Stauskas, play more like their early season form then I could see them being the most dangerous team in the tourney. Burke is definitely the driver, though. If Deshaun Thomas plays defense every night like he does tonight, Ohio State is a lot more dangerous too.
  6. At about the 10:30 mark, I was thinking that this crew had been doing a great job. Then they turned brutal several calls in a row, both ways. Smith held/pushed Hulls out of the way on that putback, and that was definitely a block on Hulls, not a charge.
  7. So the lesson so far from this game is, "It's bad when Oladipo and Zeller both get in foul trouble early."
  8. IU landed their highest rated football recruit ever. He had offers from places like Alabama, Florida and USC. Not that I'm saying this guy was high on those schools' lists, but I'm still used to Indiana being the only non-MAC offer guys get.

    Snowmageddon 2013!

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) See the "wussification of America thread" in the Buster for your answer. When I was a kid, it had to actually, you know snow ... about 10+ inches for schools to be closed. In my ENTIRE K-8 "career", school was canceled 2 times because of snow. Today, the sheer possibility of snow cancels school...for a measly 6 inches...or 3 now. Ridiculous. And don't give me that, "when I was a kid" crap either...this isn't some absurd example of having to walk uphill (somehow), both ways in a blizzard. This is schools being canceled before snow even begins falling, despite it only being 6 measly inches. Sounds similar to me. I think I had 2 or 3 days off for snow/obscene cold from K-8. The only way we would get a snow day is if it started falling heavy at 4 am or later and they couldn't clear the roads well enough in time.
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:18 PM) LOL detained for 3 hours? A quick question and a google search would have solved it in about 2 minutes. It was solved in 2 minutes. Another 2 hours 58 minutes to complete the paperwork so he could actually leave.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) I'm not sure why you keep arguing as if i'm agreeing with every idea Duke proposed. I've told you what I think, so let's stick with what i'm proposing. I don't know the current fraud rate. It's more than zero, and that's enough for me. I see no downsides. What downside could their be? It's about making an efficient welfare system where leechers aren't tolerated and the people that actually need the benefits get it. I don't mind extra auditing and enforcement techniques to make sure people are actually buying what they're eligible to buy, but I do have a problem with the "public comment" stuff. Just seems like it would be inviting lies and trumped up stories from people who don't like you.
  12. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) LOL. Uh excuse me, can I have your address and social security #, I would like to report you for fraud. "Sir, I'm just doing my civic duty here. No need to be rude."

    2013 TV Thread

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) It is just bizarre that he is pissy about Fiona having her life taken over by her family, and at the same time going to get a piece from his "wife". The bodyguard/guy that watches him is hilarious though, he missed the 911 because he was watching roadrunner. I wish the bodyguard dude had a bigger role. He's money. I feel bad for Jody. Sheila wanted to use her toys, Jody warned what would be happen and...it happened.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 10:07 AM) You think holding people accountable for receiving government funds is a bad thing? You don't think on some level it would be a good idea to make sure people using those funds are using them for their intended purpose? Come on, you know there's an important difference between what you're saying here and Duke's modest proposal. I can think holding people accountable for receiving government funds is a good thing without thinking we must "Stigmatize them, force them into oppression, make every day they spend on welfare a living hell... I want them to feel like the whole world would rather they just go away" for receiving those funds.
  15. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 3, 2013 -> 11:14 PM) They show replays regardless. You can find almost any game from the week on there labeled as B1G Classic. It's an odd name, should just say B1G Replay or something. Yeah, that would make a lot more sense. I'm disappointed in general with BTN's production value. If they could just get themselves up to the level of like an MLB Network, I'd be ecstatic.
  16. When flipping through the channel guide yesterday, I saw that the Big Ten Network had put on Monday's schedule a B1G Classic episode of today's Michigan-Michigan State game. What.
  17. Yeah, these Michigan unis are fugly. And I support the DJ Byrd hate from earlier.
  18. I saw Gaslight Anthem on Thursday night at First Avenue. Hot damn, they were fantastic. Bouncing Souls were good too. I was also pleasantly surprised by the first opener, Cory Branan. Such a fun/great show.
  19. Since you people are way too quick with your answers, I'll supply an amusing anecdote. The "the swans that live in the park" line is courtesy of Ringo. He stormed into Clapton's hotel room one night on acid, and said something along the lines of, "GUYS! Do you know about the the swans? They live in the park!"
  20. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 28, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) Kyle, you'd be doing what about 80% of the fans there do already, so I'm used to it. However, Hawks have worn a camo jersey before, so if you actually own that, I'm OK with it: http://royaljerseysmall.com/bigpic/Chicago...e%20jerseys.jpg Just make sure to bring your girlfriend, and if you know nothing about hockey, talk loudly like you do to try to impress her. I would pay to go back in time and watch some of these fans survive in the Stadium, trying to get up in the middle of the play etc. As a 6 year old I knew to sit the f*** down and wait for a whistle. It's not hard. I know it's hard to get people to stay in their seats during play, but at least some stadiums don't let people walk back into the stands during play. I know they do it at Wolves games and they do it at Target Field, and I'm quite appreciative of it. I'm sure it's done a ton of other places too and I'm just not aware of it.
  21. It blows my mind that I wake up on one side of the Mississippi River and spend most of my day on the other side of the river. Just weird, since when I was a kid the Mississippi was 3-5 hours away, the gateway to magical lands like Missouri or Iowa.
  22. 26 and 30 definitely sound familiar, though I cannot place them.
  23. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) http://youtu.be/QblPO0qijJA No clue. I like how the announcers didn't even know what was going on. You can't figure out that they didn't shoot the second free throw yet?

    2013 TV Thread

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 27, 2013 -> 06:06 AM) They made a brief comment about him injuring his ACL playing basketball. I do think it's a real injury written in, though. He was on New Girl last night, and was walking around completely normal. Not sure how big of a gap there is between those shooting schedules, though.
