QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) But then I appeal the ruling, presumably to the 7th. How could my conviction possibly stand at that point? I understand and agree with the intent of staying the ruling, I just wonder what would actually happen if you were to violate current law that will undoubtedly be unconstitutional in the near future. Maybe that hassle of still having to go through the courts would be enough of a deterrent for all but the most hard-headed bozos. Since you're asking about practical effects, just want to point out that since in your hypothetical you would be violating an Illinois state law, your case would go through the state courts. So, the appeal would not go to the 7th (it would only do that if it originated in a federal district court within the 7th circuit), but would go to an Illinois Appellate Court. There are always some weird jurisdictional nuances (what with certification and interlocutory appeals, among others) so that may not be 100% right, but that's generally how it would work.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 12:51 PM) How awful. Good luck to all of you! Agreed. Positive vibes sent your way, HH.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 11, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) Homeland from last Sunday was much better than the week before, but man has this show fallen. Acting is still great, and a few scenes are still pretty awesome (Brody/Jessica in the car, anything with Sal, Carrie/Roya interrogation) but the implausibility is just ridiculous now. No debrief of Carrie!? The FBI search team getting separated? Carrie lying about what happened to Walden? We're supposed to believe this? Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I was at least happy they killed Nazir. It would have been kind of ridiculous to continue that part of the storyline. Not like being ridiculous has stopped them with other things, though.

That was one hell of a punch.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:28 AM) Saw Holba again on Friday night. The kid really is a special athlete. He's worked on his outside game quite a bit, as well as his ballhandling. Who's recruiting him? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 9, 2012 -> 10:32 AM) over under on the mentions of the Metrodome roof collapse: 5 I'll take the under, because I think it will be 2-3.

I'd be willing to bet large sums of (monopoly) money that at some point during today's broadcast they show all the snow and say something to the effect of "winter in Minnesota." Only like 4 inches on the ground, but it's the first real snow of the year. I definitely won't be driving downtown today, what with the snow and the game traffic.

Great win for Illinois. They needed a big game from Paul, and he delivered.
-
I want Northwestern to win, but I also want Butler to be as strong of an opponent on paper as possible. Northwestern has more to gain, though, so I'll root for them.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 8, 2012 -> 06:34 AM) Toews likes drinking at barleycorn. That's all I got. Lincoln Park or Wrigleyville? Only been to the Wrigleyville one. -
QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 7, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) Sprecher's Tripel is surprisingly good, especially for the price. Lakefront is a solid brewery as well. Closer to Madison we have Vintage (which ranges from decent to outstanding) and O'so and Tyranena (both in the solid category). The beer that's easiest micro to get around here is from Ale Asylum. Unfortunately, they are a consistent disappointment aside from their belgian IPA, which is awesome. Lakefront makes a belgian white that's pretty darn good. That's all I've had from there, there. Tyranena and Capitol are decent too.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) But hey, he dominated Illinois and Indiana!! I hear Paul Rhodes is a serious candidate in Madison, you hear anything about that? He did more than dominate Indiana. They threw us on the ground ran over us with nail-covered cleats until there was nothing left. Three years in a row, too! -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) While I like the general idea and appreciate your passion, you seriously need to sit down and come up with a rock solid business plan before taking any further steps. You will have to prove that you are qualified to not only cook, but to effectively manage the business, property, employees, and finances as well. This is by far the best advice he can get right now (and multiple people have said it). We're not trying to talk down to you or anything, but just trying to get you to plan a little bit. In an industry where only 10% succeed even after years of preparation, it's imperative to not just think everything through, but to think it, and then write it down into a business plan, then get it reviewed by multiple people, integrate their advice into your plan...and then repeat that same process a few more times. Those are necessary steps. The only way you'll be able to tackle them successfully is by using the passion you've shown defending yourself these past several pages. While your passion could be negative in that it might get you to jump the gun a little bit, use it to your advantage to help guide you through each of these steps.

I liked the sound of this Kenny Wilson, but I don't think there's room for him. Then again, I've always had a thing for speedy center fielders.

I have three finals next week (Professional Responsibility, Evidence and Health Law) with fourth that has a paper due that Friday (Federal Jurisdiction). I'm finally done the following Tuesday (Wills, Trusts & Estates). But after that my cousin is up here for a few days, so that should be a fun time before heading back to Chicago for Christmas.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 01:37 AM) where is hammond, ind? Is it south of chicago or ?? Southeast. It's in Northwest Indiana. Maybe 30-40 minutes from downtown Chicago, though I'm not sure as I haven't made that drive directly.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) Have you ever had anything from Samuel Smith? Yeah. I had their Nut Brown Ale, which I didn't like because I don't like brown ales. I've also had their...organic something, can't remember what it was. My dad drinks it, so when I was back home once I tried it. It was pretty good.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 04:43 PM) Unless you are Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne That's why I said "general." There's most definitely a superhero exception that says they're required to rescue people in the most spectacular way possible.

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) I agree Rock. I think this was more about him seeing the writing on the wall and getting out while the getting was good. Unless there is a connection I don't know about between Ark AD Jeff Long and Bielema, my guess is it is Bielema's agent that quietly let some schools know he would listen. I just can't get past losing several long time assistants by them following another one. I've been in jobs before where key employees were unhappy and would have all jumped if one they respected left to start his own company or work for a competitor. One it actually happened. That doesn't happen if morale wasn't low. It couldn't have gotten any better for the new assistants he hired to see one of them get fired after opening week. s I just see him as a paper tiger so to speak and one that will fail at Arkansas. He did a lot of good things so I don't want to be completely negative, but I just don't think his situation was headed in the right direction. If he's still there by this time five years from now, I will be shocked. -
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 5, 2012 -> 12:05 PM) Isn't there a video of it too? I heard the parts of the interview with the photographer (or maybe a different guy taking video) and his excuse was that he would have been able to pull the guy up anyway. At first I thought it was disturbing that he didn't even try to help, but the more I thought about it the more I'm not sure what I would do in a split second moment like that. Charging him with anything would be ridiculous. Indeed. You know as well as I do that there's no general "duty to rescue."

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Dec 4, 2012 -> 11:57 PM) I've been DVRing college games the past month, I just wish there was more of it broadcasted. Yeah, there's not much. Big Ten Network and and NBC Sports has some. I probably get a little more than you guys, because Fox Sports North has a fair amount of Minnesota games, as well as Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota State. If you have DirecTV and happen to have the most expensive tier, you get FSN and can watch those games (only pro games are blacked out).
