Since you're asking about practical effects, just want to point out that since in your hypothetical you would be violating an Illinois state law, your case would go through the state courts. So, the appeal would not go to the 7th (it would only do that if it originated in a federal district court within the 7th circuit), but would go to an Illinois Appellate Court. There are always some weird jurisdictional nuances (what with certification and interlocutory appeals, among others) so that may not be 100% right, but that's generally how it would work.

I'd be willing to bet large sums of (monopoly) money that at some point during today's broadcast they show all the snow and say something to the effect of "winter in Minnesota." I have three finals next week (Professional Responsibility, Evidence and Health Law) with fourth that has a paper due that Friday (Federal Jurisdiction). I'm finally done the following Tuesday (Wills, Trusts & Estates). But after that my cousin is up here for a few days, so that should be a fun time before heading back to Chicago for Christmas.

If he's still there by this time five years from now, I will be shocked.
