  1. I am appalled by all of you calling for a trade
  2. Escobar can't hit. I see him more as the IF super sub playing the role Vizquel did
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 14, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) Why do you say anything about him "Figuring it out"? He nearly destroyed his leg. That's his excuse, there was no "3 years of minor league struggling" or anything like that. He hit .278 or above and put up a .350 or above OBP at every minor league stop since A-ball in 2004. He made it to the big leagues at age 23. He then destroyed a leg. He did not play baseball at all while he was age 24. He returned at age 25. Since returning to baseball at age 25, he has hit over .300 with solid overall numbers, OBP, and slugging, 3 years in a row, at AAA. He has hit at every level since high-A ball, he has put up consistent numbers, the only time he needed to show that he "Figured something out" was when he broke into the big leagues at age 23. In that case, he was given under 200 at bats to figure things out because of a career-threatening injury. Yeah, he could still implode, but we have got to give this guy a chance. You make a good argument Balta and I tend to agree that we need to give him a chance. I would rather give one of our players the chance then going the free agent route. I wonder though, if the price was right, would the Sox go after Pierre again?
  4. I liked De Aza in the small "sample size" we saw last year, but we have been burned before with seeing someone play half a season or less and then annoint them to a starters role. Regardless this off season should be very interesting. I am sure De Aza will be in that there line up somewhere. I don't really think anyone else is on the team that could fill that roll right now
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) I didn't realize it was 1993 again! I'm going to go listen to some Pearl Jam. And I think Gene Lamont might be coaching the Sox. 1993 was a fun year and I think Lamont might be with the Cards soon
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 13, 2011 -> 01:57 AM) Slippery slope. You know better than this. I think this is the way to build winning teams not trading away, or letting the good ones walk, just becaue you don't win the world series every year. I have no desire to be involved in a mass rebuilding phase every year. I think that there are now many ways to build a winning team and trading away our better players for unproven so called young talent is at the bottom of the list at least if you want to remain competitive
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) I can't see giving him more than 4/$48....let him walk if need be...we simply can't afford to have another huge contract hanging over our heads here... I don't see money as the issue for this team. I know others do, but we already pay that $12M or so a year anyway to MB. Offer a couple million more and four years and it's not going to break the bank, but might keep our core nucleus together and mix in younger players and we will stay in contention.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) We have a way better chance of competing with Quentin, Thornton and Danks/Floyd, than we do with whatever we get in trades for them. Yes!
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 11, 2011 -> 01:46 PM) I could care sell about our BA rankings. I don't want to go through a 60 win season, just so we can be at the top of a prospect list. I also don't want to go through having a million fans in the stands again, and having no expectations of being good for years. I am agreeing with you on this one. We are still a good team and can compete while drafting better and maybe signing the minor league free agents to help stock up what folks consider to be a bad farm system. I think we will be seeing some of those lower class minor league/rookie teams producing soon
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) If Buehrle goes do they tear it all down? I think they do and every player should be available. That's a l.ittle drastic don't you think? I want Mark to stay but lose one player and tear it all down? I don't think so. Plus Sale is slotted to step in apparently.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2011 -> 09:18 PM) A Veal Quintana does sound like something I'd try at a fancy Mexican Restaurant. I might have to go to one tonight and check the menu Amigo!
  12. Sometimes it takes some time for a player to develop. GB was rushed to the majors and has played two different positions from what he was a great college star at and he has done very well in the field. Plus sometimes you just have to have patience with young developing talent. Apparently we have a limited amount of that and think we have to have an instant Babe Ruth or the player is a failure.
  13. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Nov 8, 2011 -> 05:31 PM) Meh.. couple years removed from top 10 pick in the draft, good glove now, potential with the bat (shown success) still in arb years, scouts might love him from other teams to take a chance on... Might be value there. This is the reason we won't trade him and shouldn't

  15. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 5, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) I thought Big Jim could no longer play in the field because of his back. That's the story we got before. Maybe limited IB action and PH and DH in AL parks during interleague
  16. I hope we don't have a million billion gazillion of these types of threads this off season. I hope MB stays, but know there is a good chance he might not. nuff said on that
  17. We Sox fans always knew the Konerko was one of the best fastball hitters in the game today.
  18. I just think that we should go back to the three run homer. We need a couple or three guys that can really hit that long ball. Wait a minute we have them now don't we and they forgot how to hit.
  19. Where is the love for Lillibridge?
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) Say what you want about Hurt, but insulting his approach to hitting is not going to get anyone very far. Agreed
  21. I think we just need to give the guy a chance. What I read was "situational hitting"
  22. Grady Sizemore might be a good fit somewhere but I kind of think we are loaded with Of'ers right now
  23. Let's be positive until they show us there is no reason for any joy
  24. It's like pieces of a puzzle isn't it? Maybe Edwin Jackson didn't win the WS for the Cards but he helped get them there just like the other Card players.
