Sox defense sucks
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) I think Dye just made the assumption that the defense would give up the run...that Gonzalez would just take the easy out and concede the run. Still, a really dumb call by JD or Cox. If Cox sent him, it would be even more upsetting. Two nice pick-offs by CR (proving he can throw to first from the mound at least) and a quality start. Hopefully something to build upon for the regular season. Dye's a veteran who does what the 3B coach tells him to do. The Sox push the envelope on close plays figuring it has to be perfect to get the runner. It's fun when they make it and not so much when they don't

Well, I just tuned in to the game link and thought how good Richard was doing through the 4th when Gonzalez hit a long two run homer.

He has a future I think

QUOTE (jphat007 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) Apparently I'm the only idiot here. I CAN'T wait until April 2nd gets here

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 09:47 PM) I am so excited with the difference Jeff Cox has made with our baserunning. 2 years in, and you can see the difference. Their slides look more professional as they get pegged by a batters length or so into the base. Good one

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 09:12 PM) Who is that young speed demon taking 2nd off AJ and Burls? I think we should trade for him.. wait a minute

WAS IT OVER WHEN THE GERMANS BOMBED PEARL HARBOR?

I may not know much about history, but .... -
I have been watching the MacD's stats this Spring and I believe I mentioned the real possibility he would make this team. If he can do the job more power to him. We have herd many times from the Sox staff about his "stuff" and maybe he is putting it together.

Alexei Ramirez removed from today's game with a cut on his knee

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 11:19 PM) As far as I'm concerned this season is going to be an absolute clusterf*** regardless. And I'm one of the most optimistic posters on this entire board. I am sure hoping some stuff gels early and often. I think we are in pretty good shape, but I don't really have agood feel yet. Starting pitching past the top three is still shaky. I have high hopes though -

QUOTE (FranktheTank35 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) I don't know if I would go THAT far, but it definitely would have hurt. Right. I was in shock -
Ugly game all the way around. I hope Bart and Jose can do better

This could be the end of our season before it even gets underway -
QUOTE (forrestg @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) The article said that we will have Ramirez and Getz both playing second. Is this a new strategy? Fields range must be underestimated. Very perplexing indeed. I wil have see study the rule book and se whether there is some little known 10th player allowed making the possibility of two at 2B very real

How many errors between Alexei and Josh combined for 2009?

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) i think this could be one of the worst defensive teams in the league which is all the more reason that anderson should start in center. Good point! -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) Well, compared to Owens/Wasserman/Gonzalez in 2007, this is like heaven to have all these legitimate prospects. I think Lillibridge will end up surprising some people...the White Sox seem to have more faith in him than the Braves ever did, that has worked miracles in the last decade with players other organizations have given up on. We'll see if it can happen again this time. We're just going to have to live with Fields' strikeouts. Not much different than Crede's weak flares to RF or K's. I am sorry but those flares to RF by Crede were with lots of muscle behind them
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Owens may just fall completely out of it today. I am thinking it's Wise and Brian Anderson with Lillibridge in there as backup IF and CF when needed. Jerry Owens is gone

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) Peace guys...you both have valid, but differing opinions. I feel strongly both ways about that

Good move to get Poreda more seasoning. He will be a future "blazer" for the Sox soon enough.

How many errors between Alexei and Josh combined for 2009?
elrockinMT replied to Cubano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Fields will make more errors than Alexei, but the most glaring problem at 3B this year will be his lack of range. We will see some real good plays from him at times and on other plays not so good. Alexei has a strong throwing arm and will make some real dandy plays out there, but may mess up on some easy ones if he loses concentration -
Orlando Cabrera sets the record straight?

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) Meh none of this means a lot to me. He was part of a division winning team that had a memorable season, and we've got Alexei in his spot now and Getz at 2nd, with Beckham on the way to the majors, so it's not like we had to let him go and leave gigantic holes on our roster. This is just water under the bridge to me, and I wish OC the best. I think that's the best way to look at it too -
McDougal and Williams could be the surprise men in with Marquez and Richards out
-
Another projection has White Sox at +/- 84 wins
elrockinMT replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The lack of defense could very well be the difference. I don't have any good read on how Getz and Ramirez will click. Alexei did a good job at 2B last year and say what you want about Cabrera he was solid at SS. Uribe handled 3B after Joe went down and I think he is a better glove man then Fields, but Josh could be a pleasant surprise. We all know he is no Joe Crede with the glove though. Paiulie can handle 1B sufficiently and always works to improve. The OF will be better if Anderson handles CF. Dye is agood gloveman, but getting slower and Carlos is not a real great fielder by any means. -
Richard pushing in as potential 6th starter

He gave up a ton of runs to the Cubs today and got one out in th 1st I think. Maybe he hurt his chances a bit?! -
