QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) i agree, he's earned some starts. He needs to do more and deserves more than just late inning defense time

MacDougal impressions
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) When he's throwing strikes, the level of nasty is off the charts. Everything dances. I believe I have heard that from past stories too. His stuff is so nasty that Cooper said no one should be able to touch the guy, but it was his control and confidence that were the problems

Nick Swisher Handshakes/Celebrations
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 09:00 PM) How long had you been waiting to use that one? My guess is since March 31. The year is the only real question

Linebrink
If he can do the job it would obviously make our bullpen stronger for this stretch run. It should help Dotel especially and if MacDougal can help it would be a real plus

MacDougal impressions
Only the report from the newspaper reports on call ups. He had more K's than innings pitched and the Sox were impressed with his turnaround. The story either on the Tribune or Sun-Times website said that Mac had asked for a trade when he was sent down. The Sox wouldn't and are now happy with his turnaround. He apparently is happy too. He was making $2.65M at AAA with one more year on his contract.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 05:41 AM) Is anybody getting worried that we're not grabbing the division by the balls? This Cleveland series is off to a s*** start. The Twinkies road trip has become our nightmare

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) I think the game hinges on the Sox ability to resist swinging at pitches out of the strike zone. Patient teams can coax alot of walks out of Carmona. If we're up there hacking instead, like we have a tendency to... we could be looking up at the Twins tomorrow. True

So... what are our options?
Whatever some think we are still a first place club. It would be nice to have someone in the lead off spot that is actually a lead off hitter. Cabrera has performed decently, but is not a true lead off type. I see him performing better in the #2 hole. He also shows some speed, but a real speed demon would be nice. We need more consistent starting pitching and a better performing bullpen. We saw both of those at times. I just have to wonder how good we would be if Konerko and Thome hit for a higher average; Konerko for more homers; Swisher for more average; Crede not being injured; better defense? All in all we did ok this year and the last 20 or so games will really be a knock down drag out affair.

ChiSox @ Tribe 6:05 PM CDT
It is a shame that when the Twinkies went on their big road trip we all figured it could be the end for them and in reality it has been our road trip that has been less then stellar. Tied with Minnesota now and unless this team starts to show more than it has in the last 10 days or so we could really be scratching to get into the playoffs. With the way Boston is playing I think our only chance is to win the AL Central

Lee can be beaten as evidenced with his two prior loses. We can make it three. Main thing is to stay close like 1-1 or something and then get to their pen

WHITE SOX WINNER (8/31)
QUOTE (ROC Sox Fan @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 10:29 PM) Great to see a winner and avoid the sweep. Hopefully we can carry the momentum to Cleveland tomorrow, as I just picked up a pair of tickets 4 rows behind the White Sox dugout for $90 and me and a buddy are road tripping down. Should be a good time. Lucky guy! Hope you have fun and see a White Sox winner

Call Ups
From the Chicago Sun-Times Today: Up and down When rosters expand Monday, look for center fielder Jerry Owens, third baseman Josh Fields and second baseman Chris Gets to be among the first wave of promotions. Broadway will stay with the Sox today and is expected to return when rosters expand. Boone Logan is back and probably will be used as a situational lefty. I would expect maybe a couple more call ups maybe? However, when you are in the thick of a pennant race this isn't the time to be auditioning minor leage talent

ChiSox @ BoSox 12:35 PM CDT
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Saw this on whitesox.com late last night... After Saturday's loss, Lance Broadway was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte. Boone Logan will be recalled before Sunday's game, making the left-handed reliever eligible for the team's playoff roster. Horacio Ramirez should have been optioned, but Lance has not looked good during these last relief appearances. Anyway I will watching the game on TBS

TBS the next two Sundays
QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 08:58 PM) That will be 3 TBS Sundays in a row since the Rays played last time. This means I get another blacked out game. Sorry

Sox vs Carmines
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 01:44 AM) Three of our least competitive games of the season in a row with Danks/Vaz/Buehrle on the mound. It's time for Ozzie to juggle this lineup. We sure need something done differently. We can't afford this type of play at this point in the season. Our pitchers have allowed 27 runs in 3 games and we score 5. I watched tonights game on WGN and it was pretty pathetic. Buerhle got bounced around again and I mean he was hit hard. Sunday is a must win. Hopefully Floyd shows up unlike our last theee starters

We're bad against good teams
If we are a good team then we need to win against other good teams. You can make the argument that we can beat up inferior teams and struggle against 3 or 4 good teams during the regular season, but when we are playing all good teams in the playoffs we had better be playing our best and be seen as the better team. We can't afford to struggle or obviously your done.

TBS the next two Sundays
Nice to get some national exposure as we head into the stretch run. Plus the Saturday night games will both be on WGN

Loser, yo!
QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 03:09 PM) Great. We get to face an pitcher making his MLB debut. Knowing our history, we won't get a hit until the 7th. Could be another long game. That is always a concern with this team for sure. But, I think it has been a bit different this year. I think we have had better success against these first timers
