QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Mar 1, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) In an ideal world, that ball travels all the way to San Francisco's game. You must be living a nightmare? Crede needs to stay in Chicago with us
-
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 28, 2008 -> 05:50 AM) Let em play here. Let's welcome them in with open arms and make them feel like they're at home. Turn off the jumbotron, close all parking lots, close half the bathrooms, and only sell hot dogs and popcorn at the concession stands. As an added bonus, I'll volunteer to drop bricks on people's heads periodically throughout each game. How can they argue with hospitality like that?
-
If the Cubs play a season at the cell we will have to sell the place after the season. We just couldn't risk the exposure of Cubbie stuff on our Sox.
-
Why give up both Uribe and Crede? Uribe maybe, but not both of them. I would think it would really matter as to how long Vizquel is out. Uribe would seem to fit the Giants needs more than Crede and if Vizquel returns Uribe could play 3B for the Giants

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 26, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) I really did, and do, get tired of seeing players dog it, so it'll be nice if they don't. Why did it take management a full season to figure that "we run hard in Chicago?" It all sounds good, but we will see how it translates into wins and a championship first.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) The White Sox rumors the second time around weren't true. I just have mixed feelings about signing anyone-no matter how good they were-once they had arm problems. Maybe a minor leaue deal is ok, but still you always wonder about health issues for pitchers. What is the latest on Freddie Garcia, if anyone knows?

I see from MLB.com reports that now the Red Sox are reportedly ready to sign Colon to a minor league deal. What happened to the W. Sox supposed interest? Or does MLB have the color wrong?

QUOTE(Haarold @ Feb 25, 2008 -> 05:48 AM) Howdy All... it's been a while since I've posted here. I'm not sure if Crede has done something to anger this organization (Scott Boras aside), but it seems as if they are writing him off. If I were KW here is what I would do... Give Crede whatever is fair market value for a player of his caliber. He is arguably the best defensive third baseman in the AL and his bat has finally caught up with his play at third. Move Fields to first, yes thats what I said... move Fields to first. Trade Paulie and reload the farm system. I know everyone loves Paulie, but In my opinion he is as overrated as they come. He is a head case that has not produced for a full season in years. He gets into slumps that often last for 4-6 weeks where he does nothing but try and pull the ball, and is downright awful, hitting into double plays seemingly once sometimes twice a game. Look it up. It is well known that even though he was named the team captain, he is far from the clubhouse leader that everyone likes to think he is. His base running is terrible at best. I don't care how slow he is. Speed does not necessarily equate to being a good base runner. His range at first is limited, and I don't think I have EVER seen him attempt to "strech" at first base on a close play. He may have another good season or two in him but from where I sit he has already peaked and is on the downside of his career. In another month he will become a 5 and 10 player and we will be stuck with him. His heroics in '05 were awesome, and we probably don't win a championship without him, but in this game its about "what have you done for me lately". Yeah I know he hit 30hrs last year. Big deal. I can count one one hand how many of them were in the clutch. I bet that more than a third of them were solo shots. It may seem as if I am bashing him, but I am not. I am merely stating the obvious. He left me with memories from the '05 season that I will have for the rest of my life, but so did that girl I met back in the 8th grade. I too believe Crede should be kept and we need to look a year or two into the future about Fields either playing 1B/DH or in the OF. I wouldn't be so quick to trade Konerko, but all things are possible and Jim Thome might only have a year or two left. There isn't much in our farm system left and if we go the free agent route to replace players we are paying big bucks for someone elses players and not keeping our own talent.

I always like to wait and criticize after the season is over. B) Everything looks good right now, but I thought we might have given up too much young talent for Swisher. I wish we could have unloaded Contreras rather than Garland, but I think it shows the direction our ownership is going.
-
I think coming off the physical problems with his arm and at this point of the year a minor league deal with incentives would be appropriate

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Feb 20, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) I will wait till Colon and his agent speak who so quietly not talking or not been found What?
-
He run like wind ... But, hopefully he gets on base somewhere around at least 65 times in 2008.
-
What is the word out there on the condition of Freddie Garcia? If he was healthy I would have expected Ozzie to claim family ties and go after him instead of Colon.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 06:14 AM) Well can you give us the rest of your prospectus on the recovery doctor, or are you speaking as a member of the Joe Crede 4 life fan club. He is going away. I suggest you get used to that before you become like the Rowand fan club. I like Aaron Rowand too

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Feb 17, 2008 -> 02:02 AM) The health issues don't change things? I don't know how to balance them, but Inge doesn't look too bad to me. He's erratic with the bat, and he was pretty bad last year, but he's still one hell of a defensive 3b. His averages over the last three years are about a .320 obp and a .420 slg in a tough AL Central. Put him in the NL, those'll improve some. And you don't have the serious health issues you get with Crede. And, you don't have to wait to see if Joe looks healthy. Joe has a higher ceiling, but this still doesn't sound implausible to me. Health issues? Joe had back surgery and is healed. It isn't a career ending issue as it might have been 10-20 years ago

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) ALEX initiated talks with the Yankees not the other way around, big difference. The GM goes to the Agent when discussing contract extensions, going around the agent to the player is considered bad business. Now if Joe were to ignore the advice of his agent and go directly to Kenny/Haun that would be acceptable. I think the Sox should be looking to the future with Fields as a DH/3B/1B/LF type player and Crede at 3B. Thome is what 37 yrs old now? He might only have a couple left before retirement. We have traded too much talent away from this team and need to think of the future. Reports on our farm system indsicate we have no one ready to step up to the bigs for at least 2-3 or so years.
-
All I know is as of today we are all tied 0-0 and in first place. It is a long season
-
Why wouldn't Kenny talk to Joe? Alex R talked to the Yankmees without Boras. I am still holding out hope that this attitude changes.

Nick Masset reports 25 pounds lighter and stronger
elrockinMT replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(almagest @ Feb 16, 2008 -> 07:39 AM) Seems like someone reports 25 lbs lighter to camp every year. Didn't Uribe already do this like 5 times? No, I think Uribe reported 25 lbs heavier every year Maybe Massett is serious about turning things around. -
Taken from MSN.Com and Ken Rosenthals story on 10 things to watch in spring training. Sox story was #9 of 10. 9. Those crazy White Sox: Favorite stop of the tour. General manager Ken Williams will greet me with a scowl, deride me for favoring some other AL Central team and then give an eloquent explanation of his off-season. Manager Ozzie Guillen will go off on a tangent or 12, talking about Venezuelan politics and real-estate prices in Miami and occasionally a little baseball. I stood last year with Ozzie under the hot Arizona sun, watching left-hander Andrew Sisco throw a bullpen session. Ozzie announced that he would ask Sisco and his other relievers to simply throw the ball straight; their movement was that good. Naturally, the plan proved a disaster, and the White Sox spent a combined $30 million on Octavio Dotel and Scott Linebrink this off-season trying to fix their bullpen. Another new White Sox newcomer, Cuban defector Alexei Ramirez, will be one of the most interesting stories of the spring. Ramirez, 26, could end up a second baseman, center fielder or super-utility man, but Williams has not ruled out the possibility of him spending a season at Class AAA.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) I went with June 14th vs the NL Champ Colorado Rockies.. bleachers. I am looking at having to go to Seattle in May to take in the three game Sox series. Better than nothing, but I want to go to US Cell to be with other Sox fans sometime.

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
elrockinMT replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 14, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) 1) Uribe has no value in a deal for Roberts. He'd go to Baltimore simply in a salary dump. 2) The Sox would have to give up 3-4 minor leagues to get Roberts, further destroying any depth the Sox may have at the minor league system. Why exactly do we need Roberts now? -
Edmonds was on his way to the Sox
elrockinMT replied to rowand's rowdies's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 04:36 AM) It worked with Dye. It sure did work with Dye and you never can tell it might have worked with Edmonds, if we had gotten him. Whatever the issues/concerns are with Edmonds you can't deny that he hustles all the time and gives the game 100%. We need hard nosed ball players like that. We don't have him, but it wouldn't be all bad if we did. -

Pretty solid defensive CF'er though that gives it his all every game. -
"I'd make him (Pete Ward) a catcher, but we'd never get the game over with. He'd use up the whole night gossiping with the hitters and umpires." - Chicago White Sox Manager Al Lopez (1965) I came across this quote from El Senor about Pete Ward. I remember Pete as one of the White Sox true sluggers and real good 3Bmen of the 60's. Pete was involved in a car accident and hurt his back and never really regained his stature. 1967 he played third and first during the Great Pennant Race. I still remember listening to a Sox-Twins radio broadcast that year when Ward hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 8th off Dean Chance and the Sox won 3-2. The game was at Comiskey and the crowd roar was so deafening it drowned out the Twins broadcaster for quite awhile. Just thought I'd share a moment in time with all you posters as we near 2008 baseball.
