Mac will probably make the team, but I have my cocnerns about Massett. I would like to see him succeed, but he doesn't seem to show he can come in and do the job. Hopefully he shows some growth today when he starts

Whatever is right it's the Sox pen blowing up again. I hope this doesn't translate into regualr season happenings -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) I'm just looking at the box score, but only 1 of the runs off MacDougal today was earned. Errors by Hall, Cabrera and Konerko. Hall was arguably in the top 2 or 3 for worst player in the major leagues last year, and apparently has only regressed. I am confused now with the MLB game day stats. The first time around it showed McDougal giving up 4 runs and now it's Dotel? -

Toby has the bat maybe, but I am not convinced he can provide the defense. I wonder if the shoulder injury is still bothering him? He has a lot of upside, but I dont think he is back to form yet with about a year off due to injury. Is the jury still out on him? -

I like it when AJ homers. Sox have offense for sure. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) Spring Stats only matter for our guys. No one cares that Ben Sheets has an 8.31 ERA this spring, all that matters is Floyd sucks. That makes sense doesn't it? -

QUOTE(spawn @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 09:08 PM) What the hell is going on over there today? Wind blowing out? That was the same question I was going to ask. I see Floyd with six K's but 8 hits allowed. Not a good game for either Gavin or Ben Sheets from what I can tell. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:45 PM) Kudos to Kenny on the Ramirez signing. This guy is exciting, even if he hasn't played a game in the bigs. Kid looks pretty good that's for sure. A bit rough, but when he gets more polish look out I am thinking. -

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 26, 2008 -> 08:42 PM) Where is the ridicule on Sheets for giving up a grand slam to Omar Infante. Sorry I think Floyd will be average this year with his ups and downs. I am not ridiculing Floyd. He gives up a lot of homers. That's a fact. I do think he has potential to be a pretty slid pitche for us though. Bert Blyleven gave up alot of homers too. -

How many homers will Floyd give up ths year. We should make that a survey. I am guessing at least 30 -
I like the moves the Sox made and I think we will be very competitive in our division. The Uribe situation is the only thing that puzzles me. Maybe they were trying to work out a trade with the Orioles for Roberts? I don't know and obviously it's all speculation. I don't see that Uribe is a bad option though. I have said before that it seems we value our own players so little and are willing to dump them for a class A prospect at the drop of a hat. It amazes me that the feeling seems to be that such a band of 25-40 misfits can't even compete against a group of high school kids. Let's just sit back and support the team and enjoy baseball 2008. I think KW has done the best he can without just giving away players for nothing in return. We are not in a rebuilding phase and have a lot of real high caliber talent.
-
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Trading Fields at this time would be the dumbest move KW has ever made. I woud not advocate a trade necessarily. If we are fortunate enough to get Crede signed I would like to see Fields at LF or 1B for the future.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:48 PM) IIRC, Fields got very hot in late August - September, so if you gave him those extra AB's, in the hot streak he was in, I'd say it'd be likely he would get to 30HR's, JMHO though. And for a rookie hitter, that's quite amazing (especially since he didn't even play the whole season). I will say again that Josh Fields is an exciting talent. Maybe as has been stated here by others Fields should have been allowed to learn the OF. I think maybe even 1B. Of course we don't know where we will be with Crede at all-star break time.
-
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) Well Dick, give Fields those extra 140AB's, he hits over 30HR's. Uribe's in what his 5th - 6th season, this was Fields' 1st. There's quite a difference b/w the 2 (it also shows how terrible, Juan Uribe's OBP is). That's a lot of math to swallow which is an exact science. Too many variables to really buy into that reasoning. Fields does have a lot of potential though.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 25, 2008 -> 10:18 PM) I was waiting for the president of Crede's crew to jump in and lend some reason to the situation. Lets trade a young guy with potential under control for years, and keep the injured player with the mythical gold gloves. Why not and who says he is the presidnt of the club? The Sox have traded quite a number of promising young guys. Irish you are blinded by the Fields torch you carry around. I haven't seen anybody cut down the less than one year in the bigs Fields and ignore the facts concerning Crede like you do. Fields is a great young talent, but he needs more seasoning that's all. Joe is a proven commodity and seems recovered from back surgery. You wait for someone to say something good about Joe Crede so you can post a diatribe. No call for sarcasm. We are all family here. In the immortal words of Rodney King, "can't we all just get along ?"
-
I can't believe this team kept Konerko and Dye on the roster. They ground into too many dp's Fields needs more seasoning at 3B defensively and to cut down on hs strike outs. KW and Ozzie once said that the bigs were no place to learn the game. If that still holds true in our quest for another pennant then sending him down was the right thing to do. He is not better then Joe Crede and it is really ridiculous to claim that a player with less than a full year in the bigs is better tan a gold glove caliber player with a ilver slugger award. Now if you said he has the potential I would agree.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 07:07 AM) I do not know if people realize this, but if Fields spends and wastes this year at AAA, that could really f*** up his career. He needs to get MLB AB's, and he needs to start from opening day, period. I disagree. Why would working on your weaknesses be a waste of time. Josh needs to learn to field his position better and cut down on his K's. What I would like to see in a perfect Sox world is for him to learn another position and Joe C be signed to an extension.
-
I don't think we are in a desperate situation. Why think a released player from the Rockies is better than what we have on the roster? No thanks! Plus Juan Uribe is doing a pretty good job.
-
I saw ther game today on WGN. I liked what I saw from Brian Anderson. I liked Owens too. Carlos Quentin loked pretty good, but BA and JO make the club I think

I think the majority vote is not to worry about Dye in ST

It doesn't matter. It's all good. We will likely trade him in a year or two for someone else's top minor league pitcher anyway.

QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 09:48 PM) Has a positional player ever made a 25 man roster without registering a hit in ST? Hall is right on track. This fact is troubling for sure -
I don't think it is televised and they are ripping off all Sox fans for sure.
