I think the issue of a regular 162 game line up went out the door about the same time platooning and the bench became such a big issue. You are always looking at the "match up" now. Not to say stability isn't a good thing, but with nine regular starting players now there is much more chance of someone sitting for a day of rest, etc

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) 162 Sox games > 16 Bears games. And the math proves it.. so there!

QUOTE(ParkerBear7 @ Feb 9, 2008 -> 05:52 AM) I live in Colorado does anyone know if the WGN superstation will offer HD? I am hopeing so too. Plus I might even sign up for Bresnan's baseball channels this year.

If these characters get paid for making predictions I vote that we all get together as "soxtalkcompredictions plus" and sell our own magazine, but wait till October 2008 to put in on the shelf. B)

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) I think Fields is just a quiet guy who has pretty strong morals. And sports clubhouses tend to filled with half-naked men who are swearing and b****ing about everything and anything. Maybe that's it. I cannot imagine the Sox's clubhouse is different from anyone else's, maybe the Yankees. I just don't think Fields was ready for that kind of stuff, but that seems odd because he played college football and I am sure OSU's locker room had similar stuff if not worse. Not only a baseball clubhouse full of testorene hevy men, but think of the military, police and fire dept locker rooms, teenagers hyped up on life, etc, etc. I admire his religious beliefs, but reality also plays a part in the real world. But, don't you think that he must have seen this in the minors and in college? Maybe this is taken out of context.

QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 06:55 PM) Isn't he dead? You mean Skip Caray? That guy is annoying. The demise of Caray Sr is a vicious rumor

Does Jerry Reinsdorf have anything to do with approving Harrelson as a broadcaster? Or is that the TV folks job? I think Harry Caray Sr would be a good replaceemnt though, if and when the Hawk leaves.

Reports are that Scott Podsednik of White Sox 2005 World Series fame is now a Rockie. Good luck Pods Podsednik agrees to minor-league deal with Colorado February 5, 2008 FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Light-hitting speedster Scott Podsednik, catalyst of the White Sox’ world championship run in 2005, agreed Tuesday to a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies. Since leading Chicago to the championship, Podsednik has been slowed by injuries. He batted .243 with 12 steals and 30 runs in 62 games last season, when he spent 11 weeks on the disabled list with a pulled right adductor muscle and another three weeks with a strained left rib cage muscle. He hit .261 and stole 40 bases in 2006, his fourth straight season with at least 40 steals. In 2005, he batted .290 with 59 stolen bases, the second-highest total in franchise history, and hit two home runs during the playoffs, including a game-ending drive in Game 2 of the World Series against Houston. Podsednik, who stole 70 bases with Milwaukee in 2004, will bid for a backup job to center fielder Willy Taveras with the NL champion Rockies. He’ll battle incumbent and fellow left-handed hitter Cory Sullivan. If healthy, Podsednik, who turns 32 next month, could provide Colorado with another base-stealing threat to Taveras following the free agent departure of second baseman Kaz Matsui to Houston. The Rockies are concerned about what might happen to their lineup if Taveras has nagging leg muscle pulls like he did last season. In five seasons and two September call-ups with Seattle (2001-02), Milwaukee (2003-04) and Chicago (2005-07), Podsednik owns a .272 career batting average with 224 stolen bases.

Stat, I think you make a great point and the statistics might prove your point to a pont, but on the other hand there are a lot of teams that seem all to willing to give up proven players for prospects. I would venture to guess is that money is the motivating factor more than not in whether to trade anymore if what you do is pick up prospects. If not then teams like Tampa Bay, KC and others would be perennial powerhouses with all the young tgalent they pick up

Harold Baines Will Be The New Outfield Statue

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Feb 2, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) I think Veeck should get one. Didn't he actually save the franchise? I think it will be Harold. Guillen may get one as well. Who are they playing June 20th? I think Bill Veeck does deserve special recognition -
QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 28, 2008 -> 05:00 AM) he has a hard time naming a better third baseman than joe crede when healthy? I have a hard time believing that, hell he only has to look some miles north Excuse me?

QUOTE(NCsoxfan @ Jan 29, 2008 -> 05:27 AM) Is the thinking here that Crede would net us a B/C level prospect? I am not sure what a B/C level prospect is, but if we ever traded Crede it better be for major league ready prospects or someone already on tghe roster and ready to step in as a top notch player. Personally I think Crede should be signed to a long term deal.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) No amount of defense can make up for having his kind of horrible bat. Batting average aside 20 homers and 70 RBI's is not that bad of a hitter. He is a frustrating player for sure because he has the potential to be so much better offensively, but he is a very good fielder.

QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Jan 25, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) Maybe I'm the only person that doesn't think that having Uribe on the bench is a bad thing. I see Uribe as playing 2b against lefties, the only legit backup SS and 3B in the whole organization in case of injury to Cabrera and Fields. Ozuna, who I truly hope is not on the team, can only play 2B adequately....maybe. Ramirez probably starts the season in AAA. And, I expect good production from Richar but if he falls on his face there's no one else I would rather have starting than Uribe. I think it will turn out to be a wise move to keep him. No, I don't think you are the only one because I feel the same way you do. What difference does it make how much money the guy makes it's about whether he can do the job or not when needed. He may be the 2nd baseman or he may be a super sub at 3 infield positions. That gives us flexibility and he can always step in permanent if needed.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 06:49 PM) Yes, in 2005, Joe Crede was the man. I am not sure that is admission enough

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 24, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) Hopefully when the season starts your mancrush is on another team and we can have Fields there where he should be. I just watched some of my DVD's from the 2005 WS. Joe is the man. Admit it!!!

QUOTE(2nd_city_saint787 @ Jan 20, 2008 -> 01:52 AM) If the season started today what would our starting lineup look like??? I'd like Owens to have a good ST and make the lineup. 1. Owens CF 2. Cabrera SS 3. Thome DH 4. Awesome Kong 1b 5. Swisher LF 6. Dye RF 7. Fields 3b 8. AJP C 9. Richar 2b if owens ends up doing horrible i guess id have it look like this 1. Cabrera ss 2. Swisher cf 3. Thome dh 4. PK 1b 5. Dye rf 6. Fields 3b 7. AJP c 8. Quentin lf 9. Richar 2b If the season satretd today and I emphasize "today" then Crede would be at 3B as well he should be in all actuality

Mac might still have it in him yo be successful. He was limited by injuries and so was Dotel. The cardiac rehabilitation team may have done a good job with both. Let's hope so. The post saying the Sox need to sign the SS to an extension. Does the SS want to? Do the Sox? I am still miffed by the issue with Crede and will continue to grind my teeth, stomp my feet and be generally all mad like.

Detroit will be tough, but man to man we are also a tough team and pitching and defense will make the difference.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 23, 2008 -> 12:15 AM) I really liked Aardsma. Always cheered for him to do good just because of all the hate he got. In a Oakland game this past season in May I got his autograph that was sweet. The same can be said about people liking Pods too.

Mac had a lot of upside, but one wonders if the injuries caused by that funky delivery of his may either always be on his mind or have affected him worse than we might know
