  1. Sure we understand Kenny. It would be better if the Sox management would just not say anything about who they want, etc, and then have it blow up in their faces like it always seems to do. If we are a cheap-broke-small market team then just accept that and quit talking. We will be fighting KC for the basement next season.
  2. I thought KW was happy with our rotation? Would prior be a reliever for the Sox, or aren't we so confident now?
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) Actually try the reverse. The sox went to talk, and Boras stated they want to pursue Free Agency which is what all Boras clients do. If he wants to stay, he seriously would need to fire Boras and negotiate. However I wouldn't do that. Boras gets you max money, and max years. His time on the Southside is dwindling. Well if that's correct then we lose another home grown good player becasue the team won't pay out any money. We continue to lose our talent and trade for someone elses. That has never made alot of sense to me.
  4. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 17, 2007 -> 07:38 PM) Well tell him to get rid of his agent, and negotiate a deal. They have haven't they? The Sox haven't responded is what I thouight had be reported
  5. At least someone is trying to be positive and there are positive things about the team. I was determined to change my attitude and be positive about things, but then thought what's the use.
  6. Puhlease.. let's get back to the Rally Crede. Hope he is stirring up the Sox faithful again next year in the Sox uniform
  7. The Sox will be in it next year either at the top, middle or bottom. Right now we have the potential to compete for any place in the standings. (supposed to have been in green) Confusing? Yes! I do think our team has talent, but who knows how all these moves will work out for any team. You have to be positive and I am sure that's what KW is doing, but there sure seems to be a lot of plans that went out the window .
  8. I think the Sox can compete. Now the real question is can they do more than just hang in there? Garland gone and Contreras still with the team simply amazes me. Jon should have stayed and we signed him to an extension with al that money Reinsdorf is saving. We need a CF'er with a bit of pop and a beter OB% than what we seem to have decided to go with. Fields at 3B and Crede gone, if that's the way it goes, means a 4th or 5th place finish. We need Crede's defense. I could live with Fields in LF for a full year.
  9. What I saw this off season so far is another trade off of good young players from our system for young players of another organization. Maybe the ones we got are supposed to be a bit more advanced AAA versus A or AA. That has been a KW trend. I don't like the fact we traded Jon Garland, who is a top of the rotation (#1 or #2 starter) but we probably upgraded at SS. I liked Uribe, but plate discipline and focus/intensity on the field were sometimes lacking. I don't and have never believed the rhetoric from Reinsdorf and staff that they are willing to spend to win. But, I think we have a pretty good team for 2008 and just hope we don't get start just giving away or players to fill these so called holes we have in the team make up.
  10. I wouldn't get too wrapped up in this kind of stuff. I am sure the Sox, as well as most teams, would listen to offers about all their players. Whether they would actually trade one of them except for a Babe Ruth/Willie Mays in return remains to be seen
  11. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 01:57 AM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/press...sp&c_id=cws Couldn't this have been done earlier to protect another player from the Rule 5 draft? It should have been done
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 13, 2007 -> 10:18 PM) First off, I want to say welcome aboard!!!! As far as Stewart goes I got to be honest, I wouldn't have though of him and I really don't prefer someone like him but there is no denying that when he is healthy he is a productive player. My main question is whether you can really expect him to stay healthy. Everyone knows he is a suspect left fielder (defensively speaking) and last season was his first truly healthy season in a couple years. I'd be all about him if he played CF, which is the Sox bigger need, but Carlos Quentin is the guy I expect to play LF and because of that I'd give a pass on Stewart (although for the money it isn't a bad idea, cause I'm sure he won't cost a ton and would take a 1 yr deal). Bottom line there are just better, younger fits out there (who hopefully play CF), but in a worse case scenario I think it is still an upgrade over Pods/Erstad. He might be cheap and that's how the Sox management seems to like to do business it would appear.
  13. Rowand, characterized by the SF Giants as having the warrior mentality, signs for five yeasr with SF. This really hurts. Coco Crisp, who is danger of losing his starting job in Boston to a rookie, is KW's first choice as CF for the Chisox? If so I am simply amazed at how cheap we really are. I am tired of hearing from team managemetn how we are prpered to spend whatever it takes to win. We haven't paid anything out and are concentrating on castoffs. Aaron Rowand should have been signed to play for the Sox. We missed out on some excellent players this off season. But we still have a plan!!!!!! Right!
  14. Thta's because Dye, Konerko and Thome are professionals with ethics
  15. Not be sold on Crede is wrong. I don't know what you are looking at and you can't be comparing him to Fields at 3B? Crede has huge upside regardless of back surgery abd I think that is a plus because he should be healthy for the whole season now
  16. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 07:53 PM) But can he play back up 1B? If not, his defense is better than anything AJ or Toby could do. I would take him back. I'd take Olivo back on this team in a heartbeat. Offensively and defensively he is a step above what we saw from Hall in 07
  17. Everybody was disappointed we ddin't make the big splash. But, if we sign Rowand I'll be happy with the way things went over the winter. I stil am more upset that Garland went instead of Contreras. Plus there is still a lot of time between now and ST.
  18. QUOTE(Wanne @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) Without starting a new thread...I'm just kind of curious what people would have done different since October of '05 differently? Should we have held on to El Duque? Kept Rowand? Dealt Freddy after '05. I think in hindsight...maybe one of the smarter moves would have been dealing Crede when his value was peeked. I know this is all conjecture... We should have signed Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Lee. And we shouldn't get rid of Crede
  19. I wish Brian Anderson the best. Spring Training will be interesting. Maybe we should have a bit more faith in our own players especially since we can't seem to lure the big ones to Chitown.
  20. I didn't like Garland being moved, but it's quite obvious from the meetings that Reinsdorf will not spend the money to keep our premier players or sign others. I don't care what the team speak is actions speak louder than words. The move though was not too quick. You do what you have to do when the time presents itself. Iam sure we are not through lowering our team standard yet as we will soon see Crede go and maybe others.
  21. QUOTE(The Beast @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) I for one am still optimistic about this year, even with the number of question marks we have. It is only December 6th, and I also know for a fact that in January, trades can be made. Yes, I am upset with Kenny at the moment. I'm not saying Kenny has done the right things thus far this year, but what I am saying is give the guy a chance. I don't know why everyone is saying "we won't contend this year," either. In my mind, if he gets a Starting Pitcher, Rowand/Fukudome, gets a Leadoff hitter, trades Uribe for a bag of horse s***, trades Crede, and grabs an IF, things will look good for us this year. Again, that is just my two cents. That's a lot of stuff that needs to be done I do think we will contend, but we don't need a total revamping of the team either. I would like to see Crede back at 3B and maybe Fields in LF or working out at 1B
  22. Tempers flare. Let's let things cool down a bit and see what transpires before spring training. I am a bit amzed though how our front office gets up on the bandstand about potential players coming to Chicago just because they love the Sox and then we get shot down. Vizquel, Hunter and Cabrera all seemed to be in our pocket, but slipped out.
  23. I don't know where a contract for $18M for Jones coming off his worse season is justified or even considered to be possible. But, it happened. I would still rather have Rowand in Chicago.
  24. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 06:14 PM) Yep, since he's given every indication this offseason that he's going to trade young talent for marginal players with limited upside. Nicely put
  25. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 01:04 AM) Yikes, this is going downhill fast. Surely this is a last resort at best? I would rather use our youngsters
