  1. KW said that Uribe was probably the only option at SS that made sense. He is a very good defensive SS. Erstad maybe but remember Ozzie likes his style. I would think though he would be more reserve in the OF and sub at 1B. Pods can be replaced and so long Bukvich. We need better than a 5.00 ERA out of the pen.
  2. I kind of like the Red Sox as of Friday, October 26th B)
  3. I am keeping my cards close on this one. I'll tell you, who I supported after the series in finished.
  4. The Indians lost that's it. You win and lose as a team. We spend too much time trying to pin failure on one event rather than overall performance or lack of it. Skinner must have made a quick decision based on what he saw in front of him and it was wrong, but one more run would have made the final 11-3 Red Sox.
  5. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) First of all, nobody is worth that contract. Its absurd. Secondly, I would pay for Santana before I would pay for A-rod I agree that the money is totally outrageous. But, you know someone will probably pay it. Sanatna would be a great addition to the team, but you wonder what he will demand and what teasm might pay. The finnacial demands of free agents continues to climb into the strata of just plain strange. However saying all that, I fully expect the Sox to go after A-Rod
  6. Nellie Fox was my favorite player. My first baseball glove was the Nelson Fox model
  7. I didn't remember Crede or Konerko at 3B in 2000. I sure do remember Herbert Perry. He was one of my favorites back then. Always remember the call, "The Milkman delivers again"
  8. QUOTE(joeynach @ Oct 16, 2007 -> 05:52 PM) Why add another all or nothing low batting average hitter. The sox have been trying to shy away from that type of guy with the whole grinder thing. The sox have the big boys in Thome, Konerko Dye, AJ, Crede, and Fields who all have the ability to hit for power with no batting avg or no situational hitting. I dont see how adding Burell helps round out the lineup around these guys. I believe KW has made it clear he wants more speed and smarter situational hitters to fill in this lineup. With Richar in place look more for like Shannon Stewart or possibly even Miguel Tejada to be on the radar list before Burell. I would trade for Victorino though. Big wrong there if you say that if you say our big guys can't situational hit. I have seen it with Crede, Paulie, Dye and AJ for sure.
  9. No thanks to any of this speculation. We would be better off keeping Jon Garland. Our weakness is in the bullpen and you don't need to trade a premier starter to acquire set up men. I am not certain we will be seeing a lot of changes anyway this off season. A free agent signing or two is more likely and maybe bench strength.
  10. Thank you! I was at Old Comiskey in August 1987.
  11. Make this the offiicial "Keep Jon Garland" post. Don't trade to fill one hole and open another in the starting pitching. We have real good starting pitching. The Rockies are winning with good pitching. The Indians & Red Sox are winning with good pitching. We have it except in the pen. Jon Garland needs to stay.
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Oct 15, 2007 -> 03:51 AM) Uh, that was Reinsdorf. For the life of me I couldn't remember. So it was JR playing hardball
  13. Who was it that wanted to move the Chisox to St Pete? Wasn't it DeBartolo? Or was that a former owner that wanted a new ball park?
  14. And people want to trade Jn Garland?! I say let's go out and get that Doc White and add him to the starting pitching and the bullpen and go for it in 08.
  15. I liked Gooch also. Sorry, but that's just me... Plus I still lke Crede so there!
  16. I did post over there in about 2003 or early 2004. I think it was the first site I found and then came across Soxtalk. I like it here much better. Although I don't have any negative to ssay about the other place it just didn't seem right for some reason. I sure don't have a problem with people expressing their feeling negative or positive as long as it doesn't become personal attacks, which I think our moderators keep good control over.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 07:36 PM) Joe Crede is not a star Sorry but I strongly disagree. You and others that seemed so concerned about Crede and his ability must have missed the 2005 season and World Series
  18. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) Ok. He's had a silver bat one season and mainly just had the "potential" there otherwise. He plays a great 3rd base and I don't think anyone thats a fan or is in the organization undervalues it. What they are looking at is that...he is coming off back surgery, he isn't getting younger, he's coming off back surgery, he has Scott Boras for an agent and doubt he'll sign the long term deal, he is coming off back surgery and finally, we have another 3rd base prospect who appears to be ready. That prospect mind you would have to transition to OF and that I don't think is a very good idea. Fields isn't as good with the glove as Joe but thats a sacrifice you take if it means you acquire other talent for Crede. Especially, a Put Burrell. No undervalue or swooning going on for this. Just smart business. If the back problem is a concern for us then you can bet it is a concern for the Phils. He is reported to be healthy and feeling real good and will be ready for ST. We keep Joe and his gold glove and his continually improving hitting at 3B and develop Fields, who shows power but strikes out a lot, in LF. That's what makes sense to me. Joe Crede is still young and will be healthy again. Fields is taking the same development path as Crede is many ways.
  19. This is interesting reads thanks. One thing I never knew was the Hawaii Winter Leagues. How can someone find out more about that? You would think teams would use USA baseball leagues more. I can see the lure of Latin American baseball for Latin players, who are home during the winter, but Gringos it would seem would be more comfortable in the USA environment.
  20. Keep Joe Crede and sign him for 3B long term. We dedvelop our own players through tghe sytem and then trade them becasue they want more money!? We then dream about trading for somebody elses expensive player. Look at the star players we have let go becasue we didn't want to pay them the money they asked for. Why should we pay Burrell or anyone esle the money we could be paying our own? I think we are seeing the problems that develop when you look at someone elses talent and swoon and undervalue yours so much. Joe Crede is gold glove and silver bat potential.
  21. I just signed myself for $20M a year, but of course that's in Monopoly money. I luv A-Row, vut that's too much I think to ask fo. Maybe $10M
  22. QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) I like this deal. I think the Angels get the better end on the players, but assuming the money saved in the deal gets invested back in the team, this could really improve the Sox. It all depends on who they spend the extra money on. In that way, it reminds me of the Lee for Pods/Viz trade. The Brewers got the better player, and the Sox got the pieces for a ring. With KW, it would not shock me if this was the beginning of a chain of deals that ends up with ARod at short or 3rd. He does not think small. If you want more team speed, adding Figgins a parting ways with Konerko would be good start. I love Pauly and appreciate what Garland has done for the Sox. However, both have had some ugly slumps over the years. The Angels get the better end of the deal, but we still do it? I hope not. Why the interest in trading our team captain? We seem only to willing to give up our best for questionable returns. Konerko will most likely rebound to a .300 35/100+ season supporting Thome. Last year was a blip in the road and not because of the offense. We need to look at the relief pitching and add one or two good arms there to set up Jenks. You trade Garland and Konerko for what? You open up more holes to fill. You don't trade to maintain the status quo you trade or sign free agents to improve. Contreras can be traded and you save $10M, but listen to the Sox management - money is not the issue. They will spend it.
  23. QUOTE(rockren @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 07:43 PM) Hi, everyone. This is my first post on this board and I look forward to posting here daily for years to come with all of you. I'd have to say this deal wouldn't make sense at all. Mainly because the re-signings of MB and Dye have shown that we're not about to just cut payroll, which is exactly what a deal like this would be trying to do. I saw Shields pitch 5 or 6 times this year and he's clearly in decline. I'd rather just get some lightning rod arms and throw them in the pen for cheap rather than on overpriced middle reliever that's on his way down. Don't try and steal my nickame Welcome to the board and I think you are right with your opinion of the trade
  24. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 09:38 PM) I was listening to Boers & Bernstein at 4:30 today, and Boers said that this deal is being discussed by the Angels and Sox: Konerko and Garland for Figgins, Kochman and Shields. FWIW. I wonder if this was some radio skip returning to Earth from about 2004 or so?
  25. Here we go again also with the "shed Jon Garland" stuff. We get rid of a 28 yr old pitcher with serious talent and take on a declining CF'er in Andruw Jones at exorbitant salary. I don't think so...
