  1. I think Buddy Bell was doing some good things with the young Royals and hopefully he can help with our minor league players.
  2. QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 04:05 AM) No offense, but there are a lot of folks associated with the Sox - including coaches and players themselves - who have big mouths and run them at any sign of attention. And don't even get me started on folks that work in the office or a friend of friend who's uncle's cousin is a shareholder. Just because someone doesn't disclose who said what doesn't mean their information is any more or less reliable. At the end of the day it's a post on a message board and it's helpful to keep that in mind. I was doing some family history research awhile back and was told that I had a realtive who played for the Sox back in the 20's or 30's and he threw a no-hitter. Don't know his name though. I think that may qualify me as an insider expert. What do you think? You do make a good point Steff.
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Oct 6, 2007 -> 06:57 PM) He's gone. I don't care. Very succinctly put... It is the truth though. What's done is done and there is nothing that can de done about it.
  4. You never know what you are going to get in a box of chocalates or with young talent do you? (pun intended) What I found interesting is that Young attributes his success to the likes of Razor Shines and the Sox, led by KW, fire him after the season. They also fired Tim Raines after a 2005 WS championship, which I couldn't understand. It makes you wonder if KW is firing everyone associated with the minor league teams because of his own failings in properly evaluating young talent? I hope there is more to the story and not just what it appears on the surface. Interesting also that Rogers refers to Williams as "heavy handed."
  5. I thought Ozzie liked Luis Terrero too!? So I am not sure what happened there, but I am guesing for sure that Erstad is back. He is a past gold glove winner so defense should still be a strength. Health is anyone's guess though. Now Gonzalez that's another issue. He can't play thirdbase and watching him at bat he looked lost. I am really looking forward to off season moves also. Thinking it will be fun.
  6. Just saw this posted on The Chicago Cubune. I thought Gonzalez would be out before Terrero Originally posted: October 3, 2007 Terrero, Reynoso outrighted By Mark Gonzales, 1:42 p.m. PHILADELPHIA -- The White Sox opened two spots on their 40-man roster Wednesday by outrighting outfielder Luis Terrero and left-handed reliever Paulino Reynoso to Triple-A Charlotte. Terrero, 27, declined the assignment and can become a free agent. Terrero, 27, was injured for most of the second half and finished with a .231 batting average with five home runs and 12 RBIs in 61 games last season. The Sox kept Reynoso, 27, on their 40-man roster despite not promoting him to the majors. He was 3-0 with a 4.09 ERA in 21 relief appearances for the Knights. Both players were out of minor league options. The moves put the Sox's 40-man roster at 38.
  7. I don't see us paying 13.5M plus for a CF-even though he is a good one-on the downside of his career.
  8. It appears for better or worse that Uribe will be back. I don't see any real upgrade defensively and powerwise over Uribe. However, the issue of Tejada from the Orioles is always an interesting debate. Uribe is a very good defender but has no plate discipline. He needs a boot in the rear a lot.
  9. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 02:37 AM) Come on, you expect them to lay down and just play like s*** for a draft pick? You do that, and that's exactly what you become, s***. One pick, whatever... Besides, what about the fans going to the games, are they supposed to just go in knowing the teams laying down after paying good money. It's stupid, they should play to win and set some momentum for next year. Besides, the draft has show the potential for acquiring a HOF can occur at any spot in the draft. Being in the top ten will not negate us having the opportunity to pick up a high ceiling player. I'm with you Seal. The Sox need to play with pride and intensity. If nothing else it makes a statement for next season
  10. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 30, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) Why is Williams talking on the postgame conference as if they're reconsidering Podsednik for next season? I would not rule out both Pods and Erstad being back in 2008. Erstad can play all three OF spots, DH and 1B. Pods can play all 3 spots, DH and PR. Ozuna will probably be back and Gonzalez is out. CF is the only real question mark and of course the bullpen
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) They were going to trade Garland even if Lance Broadway didnt exist. Wwe have heard that for three years and Garland still goes out and pitches for the Sox. Hopefully he will be there in 2008 and beyond. We have heard that the Sox are willing to spend money to win. They ahve paid Buerhle and Dye to stay and signed Vazquez to a few more years. Garland is an ace pitcher, but as I have said before, we seem to have so little faith in our own players or consider they have value. If any pitcher gets traded it will be Contreras. Trade both Garland and Contreras and we won't be competing next year either. The starting staff wasn't our problem in 2007, it was the bullpen. You strengthen that, but don't open another hole-that being in the starting staff-by trading our best pitchers.
  12. If we trade Garland based on one start from Broadway I would really question the front office. We have some good looking pitching prospects about a year or two away and I am including Danks-Floyd and Broadway in this category. They need to learn how to pitch before stepping into a major league role. You do that at AAA and not in the bigs. But, we may be forced to push them faster. Buerhle-Garland-Vazquez-?-? is the starting staff next year. You don't need to tear apart the team with the free agent crowd. Build around your strengths and not give them away to fill another need. You only open up more holes.
  13. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 12:06 AM) I'd like to see an 11-0 Sox win and a no hitter by Lance. Or an 11-8 win and have Bobby get another save. Three homers by Fields would be nice as well. I like the 11-0 win better
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) I'd like to see a 3-2 Sox loss, with 2 homers by Fields. You must be trying reverse logic/reverse jinxing with that thought?
  15. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 06:28 PM) Your math is a bit off... Still, I am sick of hearing about Crawford already. He's good, but he's not suddenly going to make us a 100-win team (or probably even 90 unless some other things change as well). It always makes me chuckle a bit to see how many of our players some are willing to trade to get one guy from a team barely doing better than the Sox. We sometimes put so little value on our own guys it is a bit disheartening and ridiculous at the same time
  16. I hear Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Wille Mays, Joe Dimaggio and now Barry Bonds are all available
  17. Very impressive numbers for the rookie. I can't wait to see what he can do over a full season in LF for the Sox.
  18. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) whatever happened to Lance Broadway? He had that real good relief outing like 2 weeks ago, and then just disappeared. Broadway gets to start on Thursday. I'll be interested to se how that goes.
  19. QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 07:48 PM) Yeah, I know Andy Gonzalez had been playing 3B, but that doesn't make him a 3B. I think the decision to put Fields back at 3B was becasue Andy G cut his hand and I believe I heard Cintron was hurt too? Not sure about that though. The move will be evaluated today and Fields might be back in LF on Tuesday or Wednesday. He wil be in the AFL to learn more about playing the OF, and I hope Crede is back next year and beyond for the Sox at 3B
  20. I do like Vazquez. I like to watch the guy pitch abd I think the issue of not being able to handle pressure-although a problem once-is not there anymore. We had a rookie player in Young that has developed for the D-Backs and 30 homers by a rookie is nothing to sneeze at. Put him and Fields in the same line up and we have some runs being knocked in. But, you have to give up something to get something and It looks like both clubs won. I kind of wish at times we had tried harder to give someone elese up for Javy though.
  21. I saw that with Owens. He might make things interesting as far as that OF situation is cocnerned for 2008. However he ain't no Chris Young. We could debate that trade for awhile. Vazquez has comea round really well for the Sox, but could we have gotten him for less?
  22. Any Sox win is good. It's even better when they can beat a great pitcher like Santana
  23. 6 hits in 2 innings by our future starter to replace Garland. Oh well
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) Garland's going to be gone after next season, so it's much smarter to trade him if you can get 2 or 3 pieces that will be around for the next 5 years. Not necessarily. A lot of people thought Buerhle and Dye were gone too. I guess it all depends on what/who KW thinks the winning pieces are for another championship run. I don't see the need to tear the team apart and rebuild as many suggest.
  25. If we trade Jon Garland and not Jose Contreras this team will be making a huge error. Jose should be the one they market, but if they can't trade him fine. We are going to be breaking up a strong starting staff and most likely not get the pieces of the winning team we will need. Either Danks or Flopyd will be the 5th starter. Maybe the other one will be the long relief man-spot starter. Garland has so much upside and was a two time 18 game winner for the Sox. Every year we go through the same sorry scenarios of trading Garland. We trade Jon and fill a hole maybe only to open one up in the pitching staff. You don't build a championship team that way. I would keep Jon no matter what and fill spots through free agent signings. 3B is a problem that will be filled when Crede is back in 2008 and Fields takes over LF. CF might be an issue, but we have options. SS is really the only concern besides the bullpen.
