I tend to agree with Oz on this. Respect his devotion to his ethinic heritage and all...even though he had absolutely NO CLUE what he was talking about with the Arizona SB1070 law.

I'm pretty excited about this guy too. He's got some serious pop in his bat. Vlad and Pedro G are pretty good comps. It's hard to put a finger on him really...but for some reason I keep seeing some Kirby Puckett in him at the plate. Friggin ball explodes off his bat though...hard to keep this dude out of the lineup really.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 06:41 AM) Sending Viciedo down when Teahen is ready makes the most sense. He can get some consistent AB's in AAA for most of Aug. and come back in Sept. Yes...sending down a hot hitter who's hitting .333 while up and clearly raking over a couple of overpaid and pathetic hitting bench players...I can completely see the rational.

Nice time to get home and turn on the tube to see the start of this half inning!!! -
*crickets* today's game...and overall series pretty much closes this thread.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) Why the f*** did Cust not make a team this year out of spring training? Hard to believe nobody wanted him. Unless he was playing against the White Sox every other day...Cust is average or below.

Have the White Sox ever had a better defense?

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 11:24 PM) Wow, I really think we're short-changing Konerko calling him just "above-average." He doesn't have the greatest range, but he's phenomenal over at 1B. Agreed! Paulie rarely mistakes over there and more than not makes some really spectacular plays. What an outstanding defensive job this team did tonight. My fav was Lexi's reaction to his play in the 9th. It's nice to see them having fun out there and relaxed. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 02:13 AM) That was my thought as well. "Why's ARod not pinch running for Ortiz?" he had a bruised labia majora was the report from the dugout....

I think the hole thing is a farce...like every other all-star game. Plus...I can only watch about 2 batters to the HR contest...good lord. I hope those guys wore themselves out personally. Nobody really gives a crap...and it does suck there is a meaning to the result. Let's get back to the real stuff.

Hawk and Stoney worst broadcast booth in baseball (according to GQ)

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 05:26 PM) No offense, but I disagree with you about Arizona. Darren Sutton is the best announcer in all of baseball. He even is able to make a terrible team sound like they're having interesting games. I don't mind Sutton at all...but Grace is pretty unbearable anymore IMO. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) I live in NYC and have Extra Innings, too, which means, as you state, we get to sample many if not all of the other broadcast teams. And having the opportunity to do so makes me appreciate the Hawk and Stone Pony so much more than I might otherwise. They actually "entertain" you during the game. I mean, if I had a dime for every one of these cookie cutter play-by-play guys out there with their rehearsed, professional voices just blandly calling the game - well, let's just say, I'd have a whole stack of dimes lying around. Seriously, you go from one's team booth to the next, and one by one it's essentially the same 'ol thing going on. From that Josh Lewin guy in Texas, to Brennaman in Arizona, Staats down in Tampa, the guy doing play-by-play for the Brewers, to that dreadful KC team, so on and so forth - they are all pretty much the same. Snoozeville! Meanwhile, we have two very knowledgeable and personable guys describing in a terrific back-and-forth sort of way, the various nuances of baseball for two or three hours each night, peppered occasionally by a Hawkism here and there. Now that's what I call entertaining, and I, for one, absolutely and fully enjoy each and every telecast. I wouldn't change a thing or trade this tandem for any of the others out there! Now for what I really think....... : ) KC is probably one of the worst I've ever heard. Brennaman's been gone from AZ for a few years...and so Grace has felt the need to "take over" and he's gotten pretty painful to listen to. I can't even sit down and watch one inning of a DBag game. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 12, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) I don't get the fascination with Scully at times, he's just so damn boring. I'd rather just watch the game with nobody announcing. Agreed. He talks TOO much...like he has to paint a picture for a radio audience. -
Having a hard time responding to "we need a bat" after scoring 15 runs.... I'd say starter (depending on what's out there and what it would cost)...

This is absolutely amazing...
