lol...seriously?!?! I think you're one of the few on the planet that doesn't see it. Not sure wtf game you were watching....but cool story Mrs. Glennon. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Oct 9, 2017 -> 10:43 PM) Guys, I can't wait anymore for the Bears to find a damn QB, because I don't think that Trubisky is going to be that guy. Usually, when a player has the "It Factor" you know right away. I didn't see it from Trubisky. There were no "wow" moments. Contrary to popular belief, I saw a guy who was overwhelmed at the NFL level. I think everyone, all across the country has been doing sports wrong since the invention of the national TV contracts. Who says that "you root for the name on the front of the jersey, not the name on the back" I now disagree. You root for the best talent in sports to do great things on the biggest stages, no matter what laundry they wear. Who says I have to "dislike/hate" Aaron Rodgers? he is one of the best QBs to ever play the game. If the guy doesn't wear the laundry from my home town, who cares? These are the best players. Obviously it is easier to follow hometown teams, because of cable packages, etc. BUT, I think there is no reason to go through the misery of watching your hometown team suck for years, and somehow if they win it all once that is supposed to make it better. "You can't do that, you are being a bandwagoner" Counterpoint: I enjoy the sport, and I also enjoy great players being great. I can't tie my allegiances to one team anymore. I root for the name on the back, not on the front now. In the age of National TV contracts, and sports packages there is no need to tie yourself to one team. Rooting for the name on the front of the jersey is an antiquated philosophy of sports fandom. Just enjoy Football/Baseball/Basketball/Hockey and learn to recognize and enjoy greatness when you see it. And if it comes from Green Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, New York, wherever.........who cares? Sports was meant to be entertainment, and I want to be entertained, not have increased stress in my life. Everyone needs to relax and have fun. Life is too short to wait for your hometown team to win. /end rant

I'm not one to blame the officials for anything...but for the love of God...WTF was that crap tonight? That offsetting in the 4th when Cohen got the facemask sent me over the edge. The holding on the TD was s***. The offensive PI was s***. FU and your entire officiating crews Goodell. One other reason why I find the NFL product a POS...when a crappy officiating crew dictates the direction of a game. I'm still pissed.....

Cam Newton said what most guys actually think...then everyone gasps in PC accordance. Honestly...all these networks have been doing lately is trying to cram women in their broadcasts down your throat in the name of equality. Honestly...no big whoop...but sometimes the stuff that comes out of some of these women's mouths trying to be "jocky" is actually kind of funny. Newton is young kid...bfd. I had a problem when he acted like a cry baby after the Super Bowl...but he'll learn. But honestly...the dude takes more unnecessary shots that don't get called more than any QB I've seen. If Sharon Rodgers got hit like he did...they'd call a congressional hearing. I do find his presser outfits pretty comical...but overall...I don't sweat Cam Newton.

how huge is it for this team having Saad back?!? Really sucks not having Hossa...but having Saad...and a seemingly rejuvenated Sharp is really nice. Young guys have been skating very well too... -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2017 -> 11:14 PM) So why didn’t Schmaltz play he was dinged up anyway from the first game then took a shot from Jack Johnson on the first goal by Kane minute and a half in...IIRC it was his assist. He went into the locker room...then came back...and left again. If I was going to guess...looked like shoulder. -
Is there a more overrated team than the Nats?

I go by the premise..."I'd rather have them and not need them...then need them and not have them." Hypothetical...fat boy in NK...or anybody hits this country with an EMP. Grid is down for days/months. Resources are scarce. I guarantee you people will be trying to take you and your families resources. Not saying you have to use your weapons on anybody who is merely trying to survive...but you have the animals who merely want to take and do it physically. Wouldn't you rather have that little insurance policy of a .357 strapped to your hip or whatever?...people will think twice.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) I've never understood the people who don't lock up their firearms in the house. Get a safe lock them up. That takes care of most of the issues. This...you can get a decent safe that's fire retardant for $400-500.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 12:45 PM) What animal do you hunt with an AR-15? Nobody really "hunts" with an AR. Like others have said...vermin eradication. But "hunting" like deer or whatever...nobody uses an AR

QUOTE (Quin @ Oct 6, 2017 -> 12:30 AM) I hope you place less trust in Fox News, who is easily the worst of the big three when it comes to reporting. As for your second point, um, Obamacare. If they took the Republican approach of keeping bills in secret, avoiding the CBO, not making any compromise, etc. maybe he would have gotten even more done in those two years. Actually I find CNN to be the biggest joke out of all of them. And I've already said earlier in this thread they all lack...but CNN has proven to be completely untrustworthy...but they fit the liberal narrative. Of course that's my opinion... Obamacare?!? BWAHAHAAAA...sorry...still find it probably one of the more disastrous things to happen in the past 10 years...but that's for another thread. But what do I know...I'm one of those self employed people that got Hitlered with a dry pineapple...that had his nice PPO plan skyrocket to them wanting almost $1000/mo (980) with a $10K deductible JUST FOR ME...a perfectly healthy male with no prexistings. I'm in AZ were everyone bailed...and not eligible for any subsidies. Yeah...thanks Barry!!! I plenty of people/families that got reamed just as bad. I guy I contract with...they wanted $1600 to cover his family. I said no thanks and bought a catastrophic plan from Golden Rule. Yeah...sorry if I don't jump up and down saying what a great thing Barrycare is. pffffffft...... Your last comment goes both ways. How many bills were presented to that pimple Harry Reid that died sitting on his desk that he refused to even bring to a vote? 400?....500? People always seem to ignore things like that. Hate to tell ya...it's both parties...that's the problem. The each serve their own interests. That fallacy that "Democrats work hard for the little people" is laughable....

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) I love this line. Hope you don't mind but I'm going to steal it for work tomorrow. Most of the common TVs at the university, lunch room, common areas, are tuned to CNN all day. they're all terrible anymore ptatc...they each cater to their own narrative. It's sad having to sort thru so many things/sources to try and find the truth anymore isn't it...

QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 09:18 PM) So far no one has answered my question. Why do we need gun shows? Why can guns be sold privately, even if it's not that common? I'm asking because I don't know the answer. Can I ask you a question Tony...have you ever been to a gun show? I go quite often...and every single vendor there requires the same background check (AFT Form) you have to fill out at a gun store. I'm not sure what kind of gun shows don't do this...but if they're not requiring background checks...they should be shut down...that I completely agree with. But you can't just waltz up to any gun show and buy a gun "privately"...whatever that even means. I mentioned earlier...the sites like armslist.com should be shut down IMO. You can't track anything via private sales on these sites. But overall...Gun Shows aren't an issue. 99% of the people I'd guess that attend these shows are law abiding gun owners. The reputable ones anyway. There might be some shady ones out there...but I agree those should be shut down.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) It wasn't a perfect rule, but see the CNN link in my last post. The Obama Administration issued a rule through the ATF that would have no longer allowed gun sales to people under such treatment if that treatment was registered through or funded by the Social Security Administration or something like that - information the government would already have (so not even trying to make a dent in getting that sort of information from other doctors). It would not have made a dent in this massacre, but it was what you just asked for. Using the Congressional Review Act, the Republican Congress and Donald Trump overturned that rule in February of this year. Because of how that Act works, any executive branch is now blocked from issuing a similar rule unless Congress acts to authorize it. So to stress again, if you voted for a Republican, any national level Republican, you voted against that statement. Against even trying. Ok...I'm going off the top of my head here...but that law was aimed more at not allowing people collecting social security (old people) to purchase weapons. I'll have to go back and look (because honestly...I trust CNN links about as much as National Inquirer crap). That really wasn't what I'm referring to anyway. I'm referring to ANYONE under psychological care...not just SSA recipients. Pretty sure that was the issue. Again...I'm going off my faint memory but will look it up. Also...your last comment is one of the things that loses votes for Democrats in my opinion. That whole, "if you voted Republican...you voted to throw Granny off the cliff" kinda crap. It just doesn't work....thought maybe Democrats would have learned that last November. Let's not forget...Barry had complete control of the House and Senate for a few years...and didn't DO. JACK. SQUAT.

Ok...I'm as pro gun as they come but agree some things need to be done. Everybody is on the Slide Fires now...which I've always thought those should be illegal. First and foremost and I've harped on this for quite some time...everybody is talking about changing the "gun laws"...but why aren't people complaining or wanting to change the HIPAA laws? It makes absolutely zero sense a person can go purchase a weapon legally if they're under the care of a psychologist or psychiatrist does it? Or someone that's been prescribed antidepressant...or anxiety. Why not have it like the ATF forms when you're filling out to purchase a weapon? I know this was a hot topic a while back of whether it was legal for a doctor to ask if you owned firearms. However...if this doctor KNOWS you own firearms and they're still treating someone who's having some deep psychological issues...wouldn't that make the doctor just as liable as any shooter? Anyway...my point is...that would be one place to start IMO. The other...eliminate the websites that allow sale between individuals locally... ie: armslist...backpage...etc. People harp on the gunshows...but honestly if you've ever been to a gunshow...you still have to go thru the background checks when you purchase a weapon. The only cases where you don't are the individuals walking around selling personal firearms (out here they can do that). But honestly...gun shows really aren't the issue. Gun training really has very little to do with the entire issue...

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) The information all comes from direct research and studies conducted by political scientists and psychologists. But I'm glad you think it's laughable conjecture. The war on intellectualism continues in America. Most political scientists and psychologists are liberals....so meh to your "research".

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) Here's some info from political scientist Alexandra Filindra, a colleague of my Dad's, about the psychology of the gun situation in America: "Some basics on guns and why we are where we are: 1. There are between 300-350 million guns in civilian hands in the US. 2. Americans own more than half of the global civilian stock though they are 5% of world population. 3. Gun ownership in US has declined from 49% of households in the early 1970s to 36% in 2016. 4. This means that on average, a gun owning household has 8-10 firearms. A substantial percentage have a lot more. 5. Guns are expensive so your average gun owner who invests in AR15s is not a trailer park dweller. He is a middle to high SES guy. 6. The HE is intentional. Most gun owners are men. In recent years, the NRA had made some marketing appeals to women but with modest success. 7. The vast majority of gun owners are white. Based on GSS data, 90% of gun owners are white, same as it was in 1973. The share of whites in the general population is 65%, so this is an extraordinarily white bunch. 8. People don't own guns for safety even though that is the socially desirable thing to say in surveys. Remember the average gun owning household has 8 guns. What's the marginal utility of that 8th gun? How much more safety does it provide to make it a worthwhile investment? 9. In addition, analysis shows that people who are afraid of crime are more supportive of gun control. 10. Guns are an expression of white identity, a very political identity. Through firearms, whites express racial fears, prejudices, and ingroup favoritism in a symbolic way. 11. Since the 1970s the NRA has funded and supported the production of hundreds of law review articles peddling very questionable constitutional theories of the 2nd amendment. They all cite each other and ignore serious historical scholarship. These theories found their way into Scalia's Heller decision (original but hardly originalist) 12. The NRA has used these legal narratives to construct a political narrative which is popular with the base. 13. In this view, gun rights are the most important of all civil rights because on them rests the right to vote and the right to free speech. Only by reserving the right to shoot government officials can a man be secure that the government will not be tyrannical. 14. This is an explicit rejection of Weberian understandings of the state. It is also illogical. But it is oh so satisfying emotionally. Who cares about internal logic? 15. When you start out with the premise that guns are the "first right" it becomes the uber litmus test. ANY effort to restrict guns is viewed as an attempt by the state to limit people's fundamental rights. It is taken as seriously as voter ID laws. 16. At a time when demographic change, a black president, political correctness, and the alt right all hit the same button of status anxiety, prejudiced whites feel uber threatened so this narrative works. In their heads it is real. 17. Given that this is about identity, the public health campaign of emphasizing the human toll of guns can't work. We need a very different approach." I honestly find most of these laughable...and purely conjecture...but whatever. I will say this in regards to #1...I keep hearing all these numbers bandied about...but whatever number somebody comes up with...I'd add about 100 million to it. There's more guns than you can shake a stick at in this nation...you're just not going to change that fact regardless of what you do.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 06:17 PM) It was nice try. Once It was pointed out you were doing the exact thing you were critizing me for doing you were able to come up with something. But, you are still 1800 miles away, and you have no idea if I ever lived in AZ or not, which apparently would make me an expert. It is typical of your party. You do the exact things you find fault with others doing. lol...my party. You didn't point out s***...save it Champ. You have zero clue what "my party" is...you assumed I was Republican.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 06:14 PM) I meant for the Yankees with Judge. If adding Stanton gave the Sox 100+ dingers that means Eloy or Roberts are awesome which I also am not opposed to. aaaahh...gotcha...my bad. I thought you were pairing Stanton and Jimenez! I still don't want to toss that much coin at one player...

QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 06:16 PM) My reply was canned, yet you want to claim "most lefties" pinned the shooting on Republicans. But that's not generalizing or anything. Pot, meet kettle. did I miss something? Has there not been widespread blame towards Republicans for this? Personally I really don't care...I take it with a grain of salt. Just gets old. Hell...wasn't even 5 minutes after this happens and that old scab Hillary is politicizing it...and everybody jumps on board. Apologize to the people that haven't...but I'm seeing an awful lot of it.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 05:46 PM) But what about all the bad hombres? But thanks for the confirmation Trumps wall is a waste of money. The problem in Chicago is there are over 100,000 gang members. The vast majority of shooting is gang related, unfortunately a lot of innocent people get caught in the middle. Not sure it'd be a waste of money. Not very plausible right now...but don't think it'd be a waste. Venture to say how many of those gang members are illegals from Central America and Mexico? Not arguing the vast majority is gang related...but why is that tolerated...and rare instances like these shootings all of a sudden a cry for major change? Make light of AZ with your "bad hombres" comment...cool...but it's an issue out here. But I'm sure you knew that from 1800 miles away...

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 06:01 PM) Mind elaborating on why you don’t “buy” the Aurora, CO shooting? Ok...since you asked...and I'm just going off my recollection of things I saw/read from back then (and no not Alex Jones before anyone pipes in with that). There were just too many conflicting reports out there and eye witnesses that claimed to have seen two people in the doorway that they entered...actual videos of people claiming it shortly after the fact. Heard them plain as day stating it. Also...they found the guy sitting in the passenger seat of a car parked out back completely out of it...dazed and confused and didn't even know where the heck he was....ummm...k. Not to mention his entire apartment was rigged in pretty much a way that military or explosive personnel would be savvy enough to do. In my opinion...it just all seemed very staged. But then that's just my opinion...
