  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 07:05 AM) Last I saw he had rejected the trade. Crazy. I'd heard speculation that he wanted to go to the Cubs...but Theo had stripped the cupboard pretty bare and didn't have the resources to land him. Would have involved a position player or two already on the roster (I'd imagine Schwarbs or Happ would have had to be one of them)...and he didn't want to do that (or vise/versa). Not sure how accurate this it or not. It was very last minute tho huh...
  2. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) Franklin Perez, Daz Cameron and Jake Rogers the return. huh...just read that's Mike Cameron's kid. Damn I feel old....
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 05:39 PM) Thursday night home opener for Sparky. Not sure what to expect from this team this year. Graham needs to be on a short leash tho... GACK...gonna be another extremely looooooooooooooong year for ASU. I so ready for them to can Todd Graham and his schtick....
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) In case you were worried if Trubisky was able to hand the ball off... I don't want him getting hurt either, but why did he even play? Just let Shaw play the whole game. what a snoozefest turd that was tonight...couldn't even get 4 minutes into the second half.
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:15 PM) Wait, we got a C+ guy for f***ing Migo? Is this real life? What a job by Hahn, he is stacking chips. Granted this guy has sucked ass in the low minors but the upside is there and hey if he never pans out others will. edit: the Sox got 4 fWAR out of Migo in 250 innings. That's amazing. Cooper has some misses but more often than not he delivers results. Right?!?!? How anyone can not be happy with this is beyond me. Kid definitely has quite a bit of upside and some physical tools. Nice article on SBNation about him a few months back. Maybe a change in scenery will give him a spark.
  6. I can tell you that when Matt Davidson was out here in Phx on the Dbags...women swooned over him and his hair. Good lord...they were crushed when he was traded. A female friend of mine I worked with still has a gigantic woody for him...
  7. lol...good lord...and after having a DP almost handed to you. That's ok...onward to #1
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/08/29/chi...ic-expectations Thought this was a really really good read. Agree with pretty much everything he says, with the obvious key how the QB position emerges, especially in the second half of the season. Highly possible we are going to get dug into a big hole with that start of the season, but if we could put on a strong finish, from Fox's perspective, it could be the way to save his job (and I don't think he's a bad coach and I like the idea of continuity and him staying around vs. restarting thing) while creating good positive momentum for 2018. Trubisky is key to all of this, but defense is so much better than a few years ago, albeit we still have a lack of playmakers in the secondary. To be honest, we are a developed QB, a wideout, and a strong DB from being what I'd call a damn good team. The QB is the hard piece, but we have a guy who could be that with time (he may not too...but we've at least invested in a guy who has a shot at doing that). Knowing this is going to be a process and the start of the year might be rough (and I think we should all recognize that) but big picture, It has been a long time when I've been this excited looking forward as a Bear fan!!! Good read..thanks! Wouldn't surprise me if the Bears are very active after cutdown day since I think there's going to be some pretty darn good talent being released. Wouldn't be surprised if they put up as many as 4 people honestly. WR and S/DB are almost givens.... I'm pretty happy with the directional arrow with this team...still a year away...but at least there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:34 AM) Kopech - The guy is a freak. They probably let him settle in at Charlotte and call up once he's settled. He may struggle with walks when he comes up but he's going to compete. I have no problem with having him in the rotation next may. I think Jimenez would probably follow him up after the Super 2 deadline. Adolfo - It really pisses me off the team has policies that revolve around Kopech being forced to cut his hair but then when a guy is an idiot and punches an inanimate object the team covers for him. How about a policy where self inflicted injuries make them lose money and they can wear their hair however they want? Collins - Sox seem like they're way too high on him. I like him don't get me wrong, but I don't see him flying to the majors next year. We'll see, but I think his performance is going to decide how quick he moves. I'll trust the people with they fingers on the pulse...but seems puzzling fast tracking Collins they way they're talking about.
  10. This is actually a pretty good piece and puts things into perspective...especially for a guy like me that's eager to see Trubs starting as soon as possible. Not that I'm a huge Rodgers fan...but I respect his talent for sure. http://sportsmockery.com/2017/08/aaron-rod...-with-trubisky/
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) Yeah he's had a disappointing season and has been very mediocre since joking the Sox. Sub 600 OPS with abysmal slugging. Scouting reports on him haven't been kind either. Needs a big year next season to make scouts a believer again. I haven't followed his progress all the close that entire year...but why is everyone saying (or some) he's had a disappointing year? Is it lack of power numbers you find disappointing? Or want a higher average? Just curious...
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 11:47 AM) Great news. I don't know if it's because he's from Illinois or ISU or because he seems like a good dude but I am really rooting for him. Agreed...and by all accounts his teammates love him. ISU guy...went there to play QB from what I understand. I'm glad the kid got a shot last year and wish nothing but a speedy recovery. Losing him really hurt. Kevin White needs to put his big boy panties on this season...
  13. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Ha! It's been amazing how many woman have taken notice to Moncada. I've had multiple girls/women who don't care about sports ask about him. My friends mom, who is a Cubs fan and doesn't watch sports, was totally taken aback by Moncada. She couldn't believe how good looking a 21-year-old could be. I know this sounds pretty ridiculous to say...but probably my biggest fear about Moncada is him getting too caught up in being "pretty" and turning into a prima donna. This thread is actually pretty funny...but even my gal commented on how many good looking young guys the Sox have...and she hates baseball.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 06:56 AM) I saw Hub on CSN yesterday, he has been to just about every Bears practice and said Trubisky is way better than he thought, BUT is not ready for regular season play. He thinks he is going to be really good. He said maybe in a blowout they could get him time, but says for now Sanchez is the #2. He expects him to be the emergency QB for at least 5 or 6 weeks, as the Bears first 4 opponents are really good, and maybe then get the job. He was saying in the NFL, lame duck coaches are rare, so Fox is basically coaching for his job, and he's pretty much screwed, and he sees the only way he gets an extension is if the Bears make the playoffs, which is unlikely. Fox wants and needs the Bears to win more than just about anyone, so if MT isn't starting, he isn't ready. So then the Bears are going to carry 3 QBs? Not knocking Hub's opinion...but he's been known to be off before. A lot depends on where this team is at...and I think they'll be a lot better than given credit for if they stay healthy. If they're going to spoon feed Glennon...that could just as easily spoon feed a more athletic...more accurate...overall better QB like Trubs. I think the kid is mature enough to handle it. If Dak Prescott can do it in a pressure environment like Dallas....Trubs sure as hell can. Of course that's just my opinion. I do agree tho not to just throw him to the wolves the first 4 games...which will be tough ones...but I think the kid is more than capable of handling it. Protect your investment...I get it...that means Pace needs to look at ways of improving the Oline every season then too. WR, OT should be priorities next offseason IMO.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) The new rule allowing teams to carry 90 players up until this upcoming saturday is going to create quite a bloody cut down day. There is gonna be a lot of player movement next week with teams picking off the cutdown scrap heap I absolutely hate this new rule...and really see zero point to it. But then again I think there should only be 3 preseason games max also. Be interesting if there's any WR talent out there available that could help with Cam going down. The guy that's a complete headscratcher to me is Dorial Green Beckham. I remember a couple years ago I wanted the Bears to draft Danny Shelton and take Beckham in the 2nd. This kid has more physical talent than 90% of the WRs in the league...but has completely wasted it being an asshat. Kid could be an All-Pro if he'd get his head outta his ass. Not sure he's worth taking a chance on...but there's no denying his talent.
  16. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) I think service time is a much smaller concern in pitchers than it is hitters. Boras clients notwithstanding, pitchers seem very keen on locking in extensions once they are able. If Kopech breaks camp with the big league club and is lights out for his first two full seasons it is very likely he will lock-in a below-market extension (that would still make him set for life) rather than risk injury for four more seasons waiting on a massive payday. The Sox probably already have some idea of Kopech's camps willingness to embark on such an extension, and if they feel its a strong possibility there is really no reason for Kopech to waste his talents in Charlotte. this is an excellent point. As for Kopech being in the OD rotation...if he earns it I have no problem with it. Be nice to see some of the other young guys fast track too.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 09:40 PM) I've heard the opposite on the radio. Most agree that Glennon is much better in the practices than Trubiskey. He is obviously is more physically talented but has trouble reading the defenses and making the correct decision. I've got no first hand knwloedge of this but that's what the radio reporters were saying. Haven't heard a peep of anybody putting Glennon above anyone even in practice. It's been painfully obvious during the games...spoon feeding Glennon. They guys a stiff in the pocket...has zero mobility...and I haven't seen him make any throws on the run. Not dissing anything you've heard....and I imagine it's Fox trying to downplay the situation because honestly there's not one person in Chicago that wants to see Glennon over Trubs (besides Fox). I hope Glennon does well...I won't cheer against my team...but Trubs is the man...it's inevitable. When the real bullets fly...Glennon will be exposed. I hope not...but again think it's inevitable. Of course it'll all depend on the OL...
  18. Sorry guys...that's still a ton of quiche/assets to have to fork over for one guy. I'm on board with staying the course with the rebuild and wait for guys like Jimenez, Moncada, Robert, Rutherford, Burger, etc... to develop. When the Sox are primed for a big run...Stanton will probably be 32 years old. Not that that's old...but I'd hate to be saddled with an albatross contract for someone that age. I sure as hell don't want to give up any of the young talent...
  19. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) Looks like that is exactly what Fox has in mind. I have a hard time imagining them doing that...it'll certainly cause some backlash from the fans IMO. It was obvious since the Cards game...they spoon fed Glennon with dink and dunk plays to keep his psyche in check...Loggains did a better job (as did Glennon) with Tennessee...but they still coddled him. Everything I've read...people in that locker room know who that alpha is. Unless you're conceding another throwaway season...fine...but this kind of move would send a horrible signal to the fan base. I honestly wish we still had Gase instead of Fox...actually pretty sick of that dude already.
  20. Thursday night home opener for Sparky. Not sure what to expect from this team this year. Graham needs to be on a short leash tho...
  21. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 05:21 PM) I think I read on espn that people are speculating we have interest in him too... espn are a bunch of idiots...so I'd take that with a grain of salt. why would the Sox have interest? that being said...I wonder what any of these packages would look like (from the 4 teams mentioned as most interested: Giants, Cards, Phillies, Rangers)...
  22. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) I just finished. What a great show. I hope it keeps it up. finished it as well. Some of it was kind of predictable...didn't see the end in episode 10 coming tho...but it was a ridiculously great show! Can't wait for the next season to come out!
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) 670 The Score‏Verified account @670TheScore 3m3 minutes ago Report: An MRI has confirmed what was expected -- #Bears receiver Cameron Meredith has a torn ACL http://cbsloc.al/2wcJQL6 this really sucks...feel bad for this kid since overcame some long odds and turned himself into a pretty good NFL receiver. Hopefully he'll bounce back and it there's any silver lining he'll have an entire year to rehab. It was a pretty ugly injury in slow motion...you knew he was done for the year when it happened.
  24. great write-up...thanks. Any chance Blake gets sent to AFL this next month?
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) Just like anything, no one is going to have 100% good or bad. I do think when compared to contemporaries Cooper has an enviable record. Chris Sale and even more than Sale, Jose Quintana, are great feathers to have in your cap. There are plenty of other examples of guys he has turned around. Sure there are guys that he couldn't get through to, but there are plenty of those around sports in general. Take a Jay Cutler. The dude had Hall of Fame potential, but no coach could get through to him. Does that mean all of the coaches that had him were failures? good post. And like you said...not every pitcher can translate what's being taught either. Sox are lucky to have Coop tho. This idiot cub fan was arguing with me after the Q trade telling me Coop couldn't carry Bosio's jock lol...and that Bosio identified something and fixed it (of course that was after the 1st outing and singing a different tune now). As for Cutler...let's see how he does this year. He and Gase work very well together. I don't lay it all on Cutler seeing how he's had (of his 6-7 different OCs and crap lines the last how many years). I say he'll have a good year if he stays healthy. But that's a great analogy.
