Lots of time for things to turn around
-
Someone fill me in on what happened, I'm FOX'd out of viewing

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 05:22 PM) I mentioned this in the Viciedo thread, but it's crazy how poorly this bench is constructed with both Danks and Tekotte on the roster now. The Sox should be able to avoid LHP/lefty hitter, RHP/righty hitter match-ups late in a game, but they can't. Yeah, I hope we're seeking somebody outside of the org. How did this team become lefty heavy?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 05:19 PM) We've had one extra basehit all day and we have 6 hits on the day, 2 of them belonging to the guy we pinch ran for. So...we had some benefit in having Paul Konerko on first base? It seems like the theory here is we never were going to score a run there and we were just going to wait until Rios-PK came to bat again. You can't manage like that.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) There was no reason to pinch run Greene unless you planned to run with him. He only went on the last pitch of Alexei's PA. SMH. I assumed the reason was to have a guy that could score on a double/two singles.
-
T Flow could always go deep. Alexei can handle a bat. So can Gillaspie. Who knows when ADA, Kep will remember how to hit consistently.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) I think Manto's changes work better with guys who don't depend on plate discipline (i.e. Rios). Dunn is a completely different case. He seemed to have done something helpful with Adam last year. Why not just do that again? I'd love if he doubled his batting average and hit 40 HRs
-
If you want to score without a HR, you need pinch runner for PK
-
We've heard so much about players changing things under Manto (especially compared to when Walker was here)...it was only a matter of time before something went terribly wrong. Let's hope they can counter adjust. This has moved beyond "just a slump"
-
So is Kep going to start hitting?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) We've seen how effective he can be if he can get his mechanics together. That was, apparently, about two months of his life

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 18, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) so you're saying it's the will of the people that is stopping it Sort of. It is the perceived will of the people that stops it. Whether Congresspeople can accurately perceive these things is very much up for debate. Sometimes they will also intentionally contradict the will of the people for different reasons, and not just lobbying groups. Most politicians have issues they feel really strongly about and those are often what motivates them to be a public servant. For instance, my former Congressman Tim Johnson in IL was a Republican, but would do battle with his party or whomever else if someone was trying to mess with a state or national park. Nobody in my district gave a flying s*** about parks, but he did.

Mainly because it preceded the United Nations. The UN was founded by the war's victors and, to some extent, we didn't quite realize how devastating those weapons would be. There have been quite a few scholars, at least, that have been very critical with the way we fought in Japan. Lots of civilian death and not just with the nukes. We didn't treat occupied Germany well either -- a common topic when Germans reminisce about the post-war era was how if you were a woman in West Germany, you were raped by an American. In general, the standards of conduct were unwritten and not as high. We were a very racist people, we as a nation hated "Japs" and Jews and Germans and lots of other people. It didn't seem that bad of a thing to mistreat them. See, Japanese Internment. Only the Germans really suffered ex post facto punishment, and I honestly don't feel too bad about that (at least, about the leadership). The Russians also deserved it more than Americans, but again when I say Russians it is really mostly Joseph Stalin.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) The last time the Bulls front office pissed off a superstar, they ended up with Eddie Robinson because no superstar would even consider playing in Chicago It sucks what is happening with Rose, but many people said he wasn't gonna come back this season. They have gone this far, might as well finish off this clusterf*** how it started And for the record, you don't try and push across a message to the face of your franchise that you consider him replaceable. IIRC we told Tracy McGrady we weren't interested that same offseason

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 10:53 PM) From the evidence I have seen, it seems like the older brother was the brains & motive behind the operation and he convinced his little brother to join the cause. There's very little evidence, but from what we have that seems likely.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 19, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Right the govt has to protect its people. And you cant have terrorist propaganda that says "Even if you surrender they will kill you, so you should suicide bomb, you should never surrender." We want them to surrender peacefully, we have to give some sort of incentive to that. We need to be able to tell terrorists "If you turn yourselves in, it will be better than killing yourself and others." These moments are when we should let our justice system WORK. Show the world that we handle things civilly, methodically, and we don't let our emotions cause the rules to change. The rules outlaw blowing people up and we don't need to bend them to enforce them.

I'm happy that there is media coverage of this, but damn I bet those police officers are sick of worrying about the media following them everywhere.
-
"We don't know if it's relevant, but listen to this:" That's a good way to prime me for the coming statements
-
I'm now seeing headlines referencing Suspect 2's smoking of pot, it was only a matter of time before people started making a big deal about his pot smoking.
-
HERE'S THIS TWEET WHERE THE SUSPECT SAID IN AUGUST 2012: "Boston Marathon is not a good place to smoke tho" SENT TO ONE OF HIS FRIENDS. IT MIGHT MEAN NOTHING IT MIGHT MEAN EVERYTHING HE SEEMS PREOCCUPIED WITH SMOKING

If Axe is not skipped...
-
That hurts, a serious regression thus far. He and Dunn must have been on the same training regimen.
-
EDIT 222 2:29 PM: Confusion on the car from media. Car with plate 116-GC7 found. EDIT 221 2:28 PM: WCVB - Father says he talked to the bombers and they denied being at the Marathon. http://www.reddit.com/r/news/comments/1coq..._thread_part_5/

Well...it's been pretty bad. He's obviously going to get plenty of chances to redeem this awful start, so let's just hope he does. 1 for 33 slumps are bad, even for him, but in the grand scheme he can make the numbers much less awful in a few games. Let's hope he does that. Also, can we do something about the Alexei-esque walk rate? Jesus. Trading a lot of walks for a few percentage points of K rate.
