  1. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ May 6, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) I like Wise aggressiveness there. He was safe if not for sliding off the bag. lol how can you like it? Sliding was the easiest part of that play. It isn't hard. Wise has cost us big time in this game.
  2. No way is Danks' mistake worse than Wise's. Danks was just hustling, Wise was being a dumbass
  3. Royals and Sox having a "who can suck worse" contest
  4. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 6, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) OK Hawk. You couldn't tell with any camera angle, whatever they called was holding. He said he's upset that they blew it initially.
  5. Can the fan who whiffed on the catch be indisputable evidence?
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 6, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) I hope the Royals crew had a better angle Agree. You never see the ball on any of the CSN angles
  7. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 6, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Off topic. Jake what the heck is your avatar? http://deadspin.com/espn-blunder-leads-to-...oment-489510155
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2013 -> 02:32 PM) If the Marlins asked for anything in the Sox's system other than Sale, the Sox should make said deal. If they asked for Sale...well personally I keep the pitcher signed long term over the hitter. Erik Johnson, Carlos Sanchez, Trayce Thompson, Courtney Hawkins, De Aza Boom, trade
  9. If you're the Sox, what do you give up for Stanton? If the Marlins were logical, it seems like there is no way the Sox could come away with any of their existing good pieces. Fortunately, the Marlins are not well run and you have to wonder what they would take.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2013 -> 02:05 PM) The really interesting thing is going to be Axelrod. He doesn't have the stuff Floyd does, but he's pitching like a guy who could put up similar numbers to Floyd at the back end of a rotation right now. He's making things really interesting for when John returns. It wouldn't shock me if we go to a 6 man for some stretch of time, giving Danks extra rest and giving us more lead time to figure out what to do with the rotation. In some ways, Axe seems to be the anti-Gavin. Low, low talent but gets the most out of it. I'm not eager to say that this is because Gavin is a p**** and Axe is the toughest guy ever, but it is what it is. It's cool to see Axe maximize his stuff, where Gavin hasn't made many fans around here because he doesn't seem to get much out of his immense talent.
  11. I wrote a column on the status of the staff after Gavin's injury for Yahoo! Sports -- Chicago White Sox's Pitching Depth to Shine After Gavin Floyd's Injury Basically, I and most of us think we're in good shape now. Hector deserves a spot in the rotation and it is fathomable that we are just as well off or even better off with Hector. The problem is that we are now very thin and John Danks' return IMO is still dubious. He'll pitch for us again, but when, how well, and for how long is to be seen.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) I like the pointless breakdown regarding matchups where the other team has by far the best 3 players on the court unless Joakim can continue to fight through the pain every game. Was that not basically the same case for the last series? This is Tom Thibodeau we're talking about here. Anything is possible.
  13. Against the Heat, at least Nate will be guarding Mario Chalmers instead of a guy like Deron Williams. The major problem is going to be Wade guarded by Marco, but at least Wade might be a step slow with the injury. Jimmy is going to have a hell of a task defensively today, I'd expect him to be guarding LeBron all 48. Might pull him if LeBron takes any rest. Conventional wisdom says I should expect it to harm his offense, but on the Bulls you're always hustling your ass off on D. If they put LeBron on Nate at any point in time, that means we have won a major mental battle. I think we'll have the scoring firepower tonight with Nate and Marco, but defense will be a big question mark -- it always will be with the Heat, of course.
  14. ADA starting to look better in LF

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 5, 2013 -> 10:44 PM) Only if you have money. Be a non-celebrity or under-6- figure earner and be prepared for jail time if a death occurs, or serious bucks shelled out if not. And even if you are found innocent, you still have to spend thousands of bucks just to prove it. Now there was a time now that long ago when you would be correct. You often heard of people with several DUIs. But now it is a money grab by all. Suspension of license, mandatory classes to get it back, even if found not guilty, which YOU have to pay for and the state gets a cut, your lawyer fees, extra costs to reinstate your license, and if you are guilty and have to have the breath-thing, of course you pay for that, too, from a state authorized company, of which the state also gets a piece of, and so on. And local police departments get grant money for bringing in a certain amount of drunk drivers, so the cops aren't interested in letting people go anymore, they get more cash the more they bring in! That is why they even bend the rules in reverse now. Smell like beer but not drunk? Too bad, getting arrested anyway, tell it to the judge, after you spend thousands and lose your license in the meantime. And Tex, I am sorry to hear about your student. it does suck. My brother got a DUI in Colorado. Totally deserved it. I had to move in with him over the summer, get a part time job, and chauffeur him to work everyday so that he could keep his job. I then drove him to alcohol education classes, mandated by the state, every day after work. I would then drive him to a clinic at least 4 times a week to breathalyze. He then had to pay 100 dollars per month to keep a breathalyzer installed in his vehicle for 2 years. He cannot drive any vehicle that lacks a breathalyzer. He lost all driving privileges for 60 days, could drive with the breathalyzer after that. He still has to go to breathalyze at a clinic at random. He was a less nice brother and/or a worse job away from basically losing everything. Second offense and he would never drive again, likely some short jail time.
  16. QUOTE (gatnom @ May 5, 2013 -> 10:23 PM) At the very least, I've heard that she didn't like how Brandon was developed and how dysfunctional the old staff was. I'm not sure how true that is considering all "information" that I get is 3-4th hand at best. I wouldn't like how Brandon was developed either, but Brandon might need to look in the mirror one of these days
  17. If it is one or the other, you have to keep Marco. EDIT: and I'll be really pissed off if we aren't willing to go into the tax. Next year is the last one we can keep the talent together.
  18. Can't blame the offense for this one.
  19. Nice job by ADA to keep this thing alive. Let's get those bats going, boys. Who is left in the pen? Heath, Omo, ...
  20. Well, you knew it had to happen eventually.
  21. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) You don't develop LF'ers. That would be a bad rebuild and one I would not be able to stomach. Nope, but you do develop power hitters. Luckily the guy that should hit like a 1B can play the OF too
  22. Lindstrom was the right choice because he induces significantly more ground balls than Crain
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) In my opinion, the two guys you absolutely don't consider trading in the organization are Sale and Santiago (Santiago is way more valuable to the Sox than as a trade chip). The story on Santiago might change if he goes on a run of good starts. I could see him becoming highly sought after very quickly. That said, I would be asking for a lot.
