  1. I can't get nytimes.com to load -- s*** getting that bad or coincidence?
  2. Yeah I don't see the Marlins picking up 75% of his salary nor do I see the Twins paying more than 25% of it. If they're willing to add Mark Buehrle at even half the price of his contract, I think they're crazy given their salary constraints. If they traded Morneau to accommodate that, it'd make even less sense.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 11:35 AM) Las Foremost on Milwaukee and California just got a shipment of Bourbon County from Goose Island. It's one of the best stouts there is. I grabbed a 4-pack, btu it's very expensive now, and frankly their manufactured shortages are getting ridiculous. One thing that should help craft beer fans a bit is that eBay has once and for all banned alcohol sales so there no longer will be people buying up all the limited release beer with sole intent to sell them. At least, they won't have such an easy time of finding buyers for their years old Kentucky Breakfast Stout, etc QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Ah, beer. I think fall and winter make up the best time of the year for beer. I try to sample as many Oktoberfests and Pumpkin beers I can find. One of the best was Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale, but I haven't been able to find it this year. Otherwise, Sam Adams' Octoberfest and Harvest Pumpkin are very good. Some winter beers are showing up now. Again, Sam Adams makes a good Winter Lager. Their 12-pack sampler always pleases with the Old Fezziwig, Holiday Porter, and the devilishly good Chocolate Bock. I'm looking forward to Sam Adams. They aren't the "sexy" craft brew, but they dependably put out some interesting, good stuff. I believe they contract brew a lot, so they must have some really good contract brewers. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) One of my best nights ever was at a semi-formal in college where the bar had $1 draft specials but I noticed that they had a special on Pumking Ale 24oz bottles for only $2.50. That's an 8.6% beer, so I went and got one, slugged it down and all my friends were asking what I was drinking. Soon enough about 10 of my buddies had bought it, but hated the taste (it's pretty intense, and college kids just want light beers), so I ended up buying most of them from them (some drank like half the bottle). I think when it was all said and done I had close to 6 full bottles, for about $15. It was a fantastic, drunk night for me. Southern Tier Pumking? I hear it is delicious. And that price is unreal if it's the same Pumking I'm thinking of.
  4. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) more: http://www.volokh.com/2012/10/29/employers...ate-is-elected/ bottom line: Your bottom line sums up how I feel
  5. QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) you don't think the fact that all these people will be relying on FEMA, and Romney wants to cut funding to FEMA will effect anything. I think - if the President handles this well - it could be a big boon for the campaign. I realize this is a possibility -- it really depends on how much things have recovered by Nov. 6th. I've scanned the political thinkosphere (I just made up that term, thank you) and it seems like opinions and speculations are extremely mixed. Turnout theory would say that basically any obstruction to get to the polling place would lead to significantly reduced turnout...likely hurting the incumbent, especially in states where voting incentive is reduced due to the foreknowledge of the state's leaning. On the other hand, there is a good deal of research showing that a well-managed disaster leads to a measurable increase in positive feelings for political leaders. What is not definite is how quickly those feelings arise and whether that would apply in the volatile political climate immediately before an election. The circumstance of a natural disaster occurring right before election day is pretty much unprecedented, so it will be anybody's guess what happens. Of course, there are also variables that could still change. President Obama still has to do the "handling" and it still has to be received well...not to mention the storm has to be as bad as hyped to be, while at the same time it probably can't be much worse than expected or there is a brand new batch of problems to deal with.
  6. I know there are aspects of this that are pro-Obama, but on the whole I have to think the likely outcome is a negative. Almost without fail, things that depress turnout hurt the Democrat. In this case, if the cities are affected the most, that's even worse for the D.
  7. Too much homework for me. Would be a brilliant political move, potentially. He may get shafted in turnout if things are still s***ty on election day. The only trouble is that changing the day might hurt turnout even worse.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) Obama declares a State of Emergency, postpones election indefinitely (channeling paranoid libs circa 2004) link?
  9. "I WILL BE HUNGRY NEXT YEAR" "AND RIGHT NOW"
  10. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) I plan on going to the Bears game next week since Nashville is only 3.5 hours away and I've got plenty of friends up there to stay with. Pretty excited. The Titans fans support their team really well, but hopefully we'll have a strong Bears contingent like at the Dallas/Jacksonville games. ooo, good idea. I might see what tix would run me as well
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) With the way he was running, for Forte to only have 15 carries is a joke. Tice has completely panicked in playcalling several times this year.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 03:34 PM) My gameday brew right now is a 30 pack of PBR.. Hey it was 11 bucks at Jewels and it came with a frozen pizza for 1 cent extra, couldnt beat that deal. I don't know if I've ever had PBR. I've had very few Adjunct Lagers because the ones I had weren't very appealing and had pretty much convinced me that I didn't like beer. I had a friend tell me to try out craft beers and different styles and now I'm drinking beer like it's water. I'd guess the most mainstream beer company that I like is Sam Adams...lots of solid stuff from them.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 03:23 PM) /facepalm

  16. Good thing I didn't read this thread to follow the game Offense looked good late. Hopefully we can remember how to call plays (plus run the f***ing thing) in the weeks to come
  17. I could never figure out why we didn't just keep Zook as the head coach in name...let him recruit...and get someone else to run the show on gameday.

Not beer, but a yummy snack
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 10:06 PM) The timing of this is really strange. It's not even a week before their first game. Besides the whole luxury tax thing, it's drastically altering a title contender with no time for the new guys to work their way into the lineup before the season. I'm shocked. It honestly makes no sense to me, especially for the Thunder. Unless those "draft considerations" are somehow upper 1st rounders, they got fleeced. With that said, I don't feel like Houston really wins big because their team still isn't that good.
  20. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Nobody chooses the Bulls, don't get your hopes up ;0 he's going to LA Too many salary commitments next year for LA
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA The Rockets send Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb and future draft considerations to the Thunder for Harden, sources tell Y! Sports. I can't believe either team would want to do that. Are the Rockets going to pay Harden? Will Harden do it? This has to make it more likely that Harden could choose the Bulls as a FA?
  22. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) James Harden to Rockets. wtf?????????????
  23. We hired a coach who specializes in defense who had previously coached for a team that played no defense. This team was also in a conference that doesn't recruit players that are anything like what Illinois recruits. I don't know what we could have expected.
  24. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 27, 2012 -> 03:31 PM) I think whichever side wins it is going to be by a bigger margin than anyone predicted because people are lying in polls. There is so much attention to polls I can see people making crap up just for fun. It's all accounted for in the math
  25. Jake replied to dasox24's topic in SLaM
I'd hire greg for a variety of things. I think he'd be very trainable for a variety of things and I'd imagine he'd be very loyal to my company. I would ban him from any company social gatherings if they involve watching White Sox baseball, though
