  1. More facebook fun posted above. I KNOW not all conservatives are like this, but damn some of the hot garbage that my conservative friends and relatives post on facebook makes me fearful for what is happening out there. I'm convinced that whatever liberal garbage that exists is not as bad as this. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 08:49 AM) There are a lot of misconceptions about Social Security out there, and repeated enough over time, they've become accepted facts. And they'll bang this drum until they convince every last young voter that Social Security will be gone before they're eligible for it. It won't be long now, as soon as the boomers step aside, they'll have convinced every young idiot out there that social security needs drastic reforms, and that you should trust them with these reforms since the alternative is never collecting anyway. And that's how they'll get their hands on that money. It's not insolvent, and won't be for many many years, over which that insolvency can be fixed quite easily. The problem is, they don't want to fix it, because they want to be able to invest that money the same way they "invested" the pensions. I know, I'm crazy. An academic I really respect was telling me all this doom and gloom stuff about SS and Medicare and I took it at face value for a while. Obviously, there is some doom and gloom to Medicare I suppose -- at least there is an argument. I just remember the first time I decided to go look at exactly how SS works and why it is that someone might say it is increasing the deficit or might disappear and I was really just flabbergasted that somebody would come to that conclusion. You might say you don't like the government providing that service, but you can't say it harms the deficit or that it should go insolvent in the near future or ever.
  2. I hope Giancarlo can get going, he's on my fantasy team. Screw RBIs, just hit more homers bro!
  3. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) It's already ridiculously unbalanced in football, which is where most of the money is. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 11:01 AM) lol, what balance do you speak of? worse than it is Also, this effects more than just football. Basketball clearly has more competitive balance and also generates revenue that players "deserve." Unrelated, here's this: ESPN overplaying "synthetic marijuana" story?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 08:53 PM) WHAT ARE YOU DOING DRAGIC?!?! DO YOU KNOW HOW TO POST VIDEOS TO FACEBOOK?!?!?
  5. Dear lord was that close, but why are you running a play to give Brook Lopez a 3?
  6. That missed free throw may come back to haunt us
  7. BRILLIANT NO CALL I LOVE YOU NAZR
  8. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) They will go to Deng. Might not get one now, but now I think they'd think hard about Nate -- he's all about the high difficulty shot
  9. If we get into a last shot situation, who are you going to?
  10. Good lord are they giving Brooklyn some calls now
  11. Guthrie doesn't have a great track record, but let's not act like it's Bruce Chen out there. He was regularly hitting 95 with his heater today and has a nice breaking ball too.
  12. Middle of our lineup got absolutely murdered today. Guthrie did pitch well though, maybe deserved to give up 2 or 3, so it isn't like these games won't happen.
  13. Great inning Gavin
  14. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 02:39 PM) You know, since he came in to the league in 2004, the only person to strike out less frequently than Jeff Keppinger was Juan Pierre. Kepp has a 6.4% K-rate. He walks more often than he strikes out. He struck out only twice in spring training. HE HAS STRUCK OUT IN TWO STRAIGHT GAMES NOW. BURN IT DOWN.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) What did De Aza do? Played a single into a double -- runner on second MIGHT not have scored if he made the stop as well. Played the ball on the in between hop landing in front of him and it whizzed right by.
  16. Defense has f***ed Gavin here.
  17. I blame this on Ozzie
  18. And another bad element for Alejandro's poor start
  19. That is one soft ass run
  20. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) God does Dunn SUCK. That ball was not even close........................ That's a slider -- the trick is that it looks like it is close and then becomes not close. That is the same reason Paulie (who has yet to contribute) SUCKed just as badly on the same pitch.
  21. Damn Alejandro, you look like pure s*** right now
  22. The problem with realpolitik is it assumes rational action on all parts -- I don't think the NK regime has credibility as a rational actor.
  23. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 12:19 PM) I dont think it matters today. second game after a day off, i dont think a sunday lineup is really necessary Agreed. It's not like Guthrie is a "tough righty" anyway
  24. QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) And the useless c*** is the DH?? Haha, yes. Whoever is so f***ing talentless that he can't be the best 1B on his team DHs. I will say that I suspect our better defensive 1B (not including the reserves) is our starting DH, but yeah. If you have two 1Bs, one will be a DH. Also, you'll get guys that through age or injury like Sox great Frank Thomas that are better served as a DH only -- sometimes this is more of a team protecting its asset than anything else, though.
  25. The harder the position defensively, the fewer players that can play it. If 1 out 10 professional players can hit at the big league level (I'm pulling that number out of thin air) -- everyone can play 1B, so 1 out of 10 batters can be a 1B. Let's say 1 out of 10 players can play SS, so that means hitters that play SS will be 10x as scarce. That is the simplest way to put it. There are body type and athleticism considerations at play, but the assumption is a SS could drop into any other position other than catcher if needed while a 1B would not normally have the defensive talent to play ANY other position.
