Steubenville Rape Case
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) While I agree that kids don't know how to drink, as I sure as hell didn't at that age, there were plenty of situations in which I was making out with a girl at a party and she got black out drunk the same night yet I never felt inclined to, entitled to or in the right to have non-consensual sex with her. I was more interested in seeing if we could get together another night. Not to mention the thought of filming it, laughing about it and sharing it. Talk about sick. That alone shows me these sick f***s felt untouchable and simply didn't give a damn. Didn't they call themselves the "rape crew"? That was at least reported by whichever alternative sources initially. They know that some would look down upon what they did, but they're entitled to it anyway.

FanGraphs Positional Power rankings thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) Ha. I'm obviously not actively staring at their asses or anything, but Flowers has a monster trunk from which a lot of his power is generated. AJ's power is much more quick wrists and sending the bat through the zone quickly (which is why he can make contact like he does) while Flowers comes from drive from his legs, which is why his bat speed is slower, he'll strike out more, but he'll also hit more home runs. He generates all kinds of power from those legs, and if he didn't have them, he'd be a 6'4, 215 and he'd go by the name Cole Armstrong. I always think of T-Flow's massive round belly that he started sporting early last year. I don't think he has it anymore.

FanGraphs Positional Power rankings thread
I'm interested in their thoughts on Alexei. He had some important downward stats last year, but he was coming off of a career year value-wise. He could very well be near the top next year and his placement on that list seems like a worst case scenario, which isn't that bad. They talk about ADA reverting to his "pre-2011" form -- what the hell is that? playing in the minor leagues? He had no track record until the White Sox gave him a shot and he's done well since. I think he's a candidate for regression (though his finish to the season dropped his numbers quite a bit) but that was a stupid statement. As far as 3B goes, it seems that it is just a fairly deep position in the league. Kep will do a decent job and be a HUGE improvement. I think there is some chance that they overrated Kep and underrated Gillaspie, but that's just a hunch on my part. Some platooning should benefit both of their numbers greatly. 2B seems to be on the money, though maybe on the optimistic side.

Soxtalk Keeper 1 Thread
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Mar 17, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) Soooo, with two people out, I'm thinking the league isn't going to make it as is. I'd need AT LEAST two new guys, if not 4 (though the logistics of going back to 12 would be tough). As for a new one, I've got MAYBE 4 after sending out PM's with no response. Let me know people! Keep me posted, I'll be down for whatever.

John Danks surgery/rehab/recovery thread
Nobody in the Sox organization would support a full rebuild. We will always try to make the current team as good as we can, within reason. The Sox will be willing to have seasons where they don't have a great outlook, but they never will intentionally gut the major league club. It's not good business to rebuild -- you should be as close to contending as possible as often as possible. This doesn't mean you can't trade a Carlos Quentin or save some money in offseasons in which you don't like the major free agents, but it means you wouldn't ever trade an Alexei Ramirez, Dayan, Sale, Rios or other major pieces (well paid and not) before a season like this one.

All I can say about John Danks' health is that he better be healthy -- I'm getting a shoulder surgery from the same doc in May and I hope he keeps up his good run on Sox pitchers in the meantime

2013 Films Thread
My take on 21 Jump Street was that it was pretty funny but a terrible movie. Reminds me of The Brothers Solomon, where I did quite a bit of laughing but couldn't help but walking away feeling like what I saw was total crap. See Anchorman for a reference as to what a good movie that is also really funny is like. I'll get some pushback here but I thought the original Hangover was pretty damn good too. I also thought Gran Torino was absolutely hilarious, but I might be alone on that one.

2013 Win-Loss Prediction Thread - Annual and Official
Let's get this straight -- there are some similarities between Q and Buehrle, but Q has significantly better stuff than Buehrle. Q's average fastball velocity last year was 90.4. Buehrle's career high was 87.1, and that was in 2002. We can argue back and forth about the quality of the offspeed pitches (I believe Buehrle's off speed repertoire is no good, he simply uses them brilliantly), but the 3 mph is a tremendous difference. Q as a velocity pitcher is closer to Chris Sale as a starter (91.6) than Mark Buehrle.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 03:08 PM) Yeah, right now it's the sexiest looking one IMO and I love the waterproof idea since I'm doing a lot more outdoor activities. The specs might be a smidge below the HTC and Samsung but that won't make a difference for the things I use my phone for. And I like that their skin is very close to stock android as opposed to the others. Since I have a few more months before my contract is up I'll see what else pops up. I'm hearing the next Nexus phone will be announced at Google I/O in May. That may be the way to go. This is probably just semantics, but remember that it is more "resistant" than waterproof. I'm sure you can sweat all over it and I even heard it you could run water from a faucet over it, but I wouldn't try to swim with it if you're a triathlon type of person or something.

Technology catch-all thread
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 15, 2013 -> 09:26 PM) You don't want expandable memory. I know that sounds weird, but there are good reasons that Google decided to only ship phones with internal storage (other than the fact they want you to use their web services). The issue with SD cards is that it can be a hell of a lot slower than internal, depending on what cards you buy. If you've ever used an Android phone with an SD slot, you will understand how messy it can get. Some apps fail to scan the SD card, even some music apps and you end up trying to figure out how you can get your music to show up right. I would love some extra space on my Nexus 4 and put a ton of videos and movies on there, but I'd much rather have it in the form of a 32 GB internal rather than an SD card slot. I honestly don't think not having LTE is a big deal. You're getting 42 Mbps HSPA+, which usually means anywhere from 10 Mbps to 25 Mbps on a consistent basis with T-Mobile (should be around the same for AT&T, not sure though). People say HSPA+ has bad latency, but it's not really bad (70-100 ms pings), it's just not as good as LTE's ping times. Now I've never owned an LTE device, so I may be blind in terms of just how awesome it is, but I don't feel like I'm really missing out. Unless you get 50 Mbps on Verizon, I don't think LTE is that much better. And it's looking like Motorola will come out with a Nexus-esque phone at Google I/O and they'll sell it at a fairly cheap price. I may be looking to buy that when it does come out as well if it's as mind-blowingly awesome as some say it will be. Didn't see that part of your post, will definitely be worth looking into like any other one. I hear that RAZRMAXX (sweet name, Motorola) has a pretty impressive battery so we can probably count on that being a part of the next one they roll out.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Mar 16, 2013 -> 08:42 AM) I fail to see the problem with Touchwiz still. *shrugs* With that said, the build quality of the S3 did feel very plasticy and flimsy. The S2 felt a whole lot more firm. HTC is a problem because of the battery. I'm not sure how the Xperia is going to turn out. Most reviewers find that Touchwiz drastically slows down performance compared to other similar smartphones, but this can always be a case of #firstworldproblems. My favorite take on the Touchwiz UI was that Samsung's philosophy is "more is more" If I go Android, which I probably will this summer unless something really cool comes from Apple in the meantime, I think I'll be looking between the HTC One and S4. Lots of time for that opinion to change, especially as more people get their hands on the above two phones and more of their respective flaws or strengths come out.
