  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 01:07 PM) This is why I don't understand why people ridicule Wise. He contributed to our team in the past and people still go after him. He has proven that he can still contribute for teams now. He's putting much better swings on the ball than anyone on our offense. He's a fifth outfielder and that's just fine for him.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 12:58 PM) No clue how Viciedo is missing these It's a good, deceptive pitch. That's the only way to explain it
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) I know no one will like hearing it, but this has been one heckuva pitching job by Kuroda. No one has made solid contact against him. His stuff has been awesome today and his command has been even better.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) Well, Hawk and Stone are saying they have no idea how the hitters are missing it either. I think Kuroda is pitching masterfully and it certainly makes each individual pitch perform better, but we just wouldn't be missing it if it wasn't good.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 12:33 PM) Yeah, that was awesome. NEVER FORGET
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 12:24 PM) Invisible bats so far today. Lots of misses on that hanging slider. I don't think it's as bad as you think. The way it moves on screen is not necessarily indicative of how deceptive it is. I am guessing it's a pretty damn good pitch since we aren't seeing the spin on it all and many of the guys missing it are good breaking ball hitters. There is a point where too much break on a slider hurts the effectiveness since it differentiates itself from the fastball too much.

  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 30, 2012 -> 07:09 AM) You should change your name to ChiSoxLiefer. That is all.
  9. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) He has been in the majors for 5-6 years and has shown the ability of having a good 3 months once... that is hardly showing anything. If Humber rehabs and is throwing 0's in Charlotte maybe I'll have a change of heart but the fact the guy gave us anything is more than anyone can have expected and given his results this season not sure why people would want him back in the rotation. He hadn't even reached 50 MLB IP when we got him. He's had major arm surgery and was a classic "Coop will fix 'em" guy since everyone knew his talent and he just hadn't quite put it together yet. When his peripherals this year look more like they did other times he hasn't succeeded, I'll be more convinced that he doesn't have a chance. He has a walk rate that is just out of this world for him right now, which may be explained by injury. If he has more bad starts, you let him go to the bullpen and if that doesn't work, you let him walk.
  10. While he has a vested interest to do so, KW has reiterated that he thinks Nestor is the highest ceiling prospect that we have.
  11. Also, Humber deserves a shot over Axelrod, more or less regardless of what Axel does. Humber has shown the ability to do everything better than Axel. If he doesn't do everything better after a few starts, he'll find a new role.
  12. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 10:05 AM) That is the epitome of a major league pitcher who does not have over powering stuff. He will be in the MLB as long as he can do the things you said. When he can no longer get by with cunning and guile he will be gone. Guys that pitched the way I described don't last. Quintana is the antithesis of the way that Axelrod has been pitching. Quintana: ahead of every batter, commanding both sides of the plate, trusting his fastball, aggressive pitching in the zone Axelrod: throws almost exclusively to the low outside part of the zone, getting behind too often/not throwing pitches near the strike zone when ahead in the count, abandons fastball when ahead in the count Maybe Axe will come out and pitch like Quintana eventually, but right now he looks lucky because he is.
  13. Too much optimism on the board. We're screwed
  14. You lost me at Austin Rivers being good
  15. Bruney is experienced and could certainly hold down the long man spot. However, I'm fine with this for now to get a look at a talented young arm.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) Twist! Ok then.... lol I don't even know how to react
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 11:34 AM) I will be impressed if Mitchell is ready to compete for a job with the Sox by the end of 2013. And Rios will not be gone by the end of 2013 uless someone takes on his contract, which runs through the end of 2014. I think Mitchell could be ready for the MLB soon, but there's no place to play him. This is almost a good thing because he may get to the point at the minor league level where he is comfortable enough against the pitching to remain successful while tweaking his approach and/or swing mechanics to cut down on the strikeouts. Many prospects never get this luxury because they can put up decent numbers with a high K number and get moved up, but never got to the point where they could focus on cutting out the K's and still hit the baseball. We could see a bit more polished version of him because of our glut of outfielders. Of course in the case of injury he is yet more depth, though I think Jordan Danks may be good enough to be an MLB regular.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) He also plays the same position as Rube. T-Flow does NOT read the articles
  19. QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) Ahh, makes sense. I personally think Leonard is going to have a very effective NBA career, and I'm nowhere near biased, wasn't a huge fan of him at ILL. Crying on the bench during a beatdown to Nebraska then having the gall to show your face in a bar that night is pretty incredible. I think there is an issue with "familiarity breeds contempt" Seeing every one of Meyers' failures and getting very used to (taking for granted) his successes is something that is going to happen when you watch a majority of the games, particularly when the team wasn't successful.
  20. If Meyers learns to stay in the post and be physical, he has immense upside. His ability to block shots alone will keep him in the NBA for quite a while. Being a 7 footer that can run and jump is a pretty hot commodity and the fact that Meyers has some back-to-the-basket game and a jumper that he might make when left open made him into a good late lottery pick.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) Im gonna be honest here, I think Tyler Flowers is more "Rube" than that guy is T-Flow is too round in the middle and has a boss self-proclaimed nickname
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:50 AM) He was good though. People love lamenting a deal that brought us the starting DH on a World Series winning squad
  23. Tonight we send our best man against the actor that portrayed "Rube" in Major League 2 SUCK IT YANKEES
  24. I'm still not drinking the Axelrod kool-aid. I'm thrilled with how he did yesterday, but I need to see him throw more strikes and pitch with a bit more confidence. He's surviving right now nibbling on the outside of the plate , never throwing anything straight or in the zone with 2 strikes...but eventually that's going to burn him. Maybe that's not the way he normally pitches.
