Caulfield, I quit reading at "Nate Jones...fastball...lack of movement" He has extremely good 2 seam run on his fastball. Everything that guy throw is nasty. He, like other pitchers, still must locate and change speeds though.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) Well of course you would...it's not your money... I don't view dealing Viciedo as creating a big hole in our offense, however. He's more like a luxury at this point. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'd rather have Hamels...so you deal Viciedo for him now and then sign him long-term, you're spending more over the course of the contract but probably not much more over the course of the next 3+ years. Additionally, I would be a bit shocked if the Marlins were to cut bait on Mark after so little time. That would be almost unprecedented in recent MLB history. Why would you dump from our offense in a playoff run? Dayan is on pace for a ~80 RBI (even better if you don't include the cold April in your projection) season, as much as I like Jordan Danks I sure don't expect him to have production like that for the rest of the season. The point made earlier in the thread was that anyone that would pay Mark could have Mark. If the chairman was willing to pay Mark, I'd certainly choose that over giving up a key cog in our offense and even bigger key to the future in Viciedo for yet another starting pitcher. If we're not willing to pay Mark (or he isn't truly available at such a low price), then I still don't want to move Viciedo for a starter. Too much subtraction for the addition.

It's a nice move as long as Kirk is healthy. In a worse or poor case scenario, he'd probably have trade value at this salary after the season if he shows he's still capable of playing. He also provides depth at the 2 if you want a strong defender on a 2 guard that isn't too big (Wade?)

I hope Napoli falls down the stairs and has a [minor] injury

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 04:14 PM) I'm not sure that I understand this thinking...if they desire to move him, they're going to have to either eat a s***load of that contract or trade some major talent along with Mark. Mark has pitched well, but I don't see anyone wanting him for 3.5 years and $54 million right now. Who knows, maybe I'm wrong. I'd rather see us eat a bunch of money to get a player like Buehrle instead of creating a big hole in our offense to bring in another top pitcher.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 04:19 PM) Deunte Heath optioned to Charlotte. Hardly knew ye. Humber back Friday? Hopefully, I've seen enough of Axelrod. Castro, you better get healthy in case Humber f***s up again! -

Have to think this is probably a winner if the umpiring wasn't pure s*** We had our chances regardless though -
It would shock me if they don't give Humber a chance to start for Axelrod right away.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 07:19 PM) 2012: $6 million 2013: $11 million 2014: $18 million 2015: $19 million. Yeah, you don't have to give up a single player if you want him back. The Marlins would happily give him up unless they're in first place. You'd have to think about it...hell, give them Gavin to make it seem better and see if you can squeeze any money out of them EDIT: It still blows my mind that teams do that stupid backloading. Why won't one team just frontload a contract so the player is likely to get paid a fair rate based on his age.

No. Just, no.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) The Marlins would probably let you claim him on waivers for nothing. You think? BTW, I don't think there is any way we prematurely end Sale's season. There will be some missed starts, though.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) Sale- Peavy-Quintana is strong. Floyd's inconsistent but better than Dempster or some mediocrity like him. That leaves fifth starter. Don't use a ton of resources on this. It rarely works out well. If Williams can do it without giving up a single decent prospect for utility and back of bullpen talent like he gave up for Youk, then fine. I say either get an ace-like starter, or don't get any starter. We can manage a competent fifth starter out of Axelrod/Humber/Castro I am also not eager to dump resources on a Greinke type, so you can see that in most scenarios I advocate staying put.

I have wiped my tears away now In other nudes, I feel like someone would jump on this. At this point, we could even trade him to the Rockets right? If they're the highest bidder by far they could save a ton of money by trading for him instead.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 7, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) You are right. But he hasn't signed anything officially until the 11th or 13th. I forget which, so technically, the Bulls can trade him still. realllllllllyyyy

The Sox farm system is terrible brb 10 rookies on a first place team brb several of best players played in our farm system (Sale, Beckham, Alexei, Dayan, Gavin, Quintana)

Looking to go to a game in August against the LAA, but it's been so long I don't know where to sit. Anything in particular I need to know? Looking at Section 139 or thereabouts

Our bench played far more than most teams, usually because our coach refused to take them out if they were playing well.

They just need to do whatever is necessary to keep him from pitching with even a hint of soreness or sluggishness.
