  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 01:43 PM) Just to inform some of the U of I posters and lurkers here, I'm planning on having a party at the bar of Geovanti's for opening day. I need at least 40 people, and a message was sent out through facebook, but I figured at most it would be $3 per person We get a keg, and lots of appetizers. Just let me know if you are interested, and I'll get some more details about it after the Cubs-Sox game today. I'm down. Contact me via PM when you get all the info.
  2. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) Those bastards would not let hotlink it. I had to save it. Much better this time.
  3. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 04:26 PM) Your link didn't work qwert He got pwned.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) Jay Fiedler sucked. You're better off with Craig Krenzel. I would sign Carter over Blake, but wouldn't mind Blake. Carter was a sharp backup last year and has proved he could play. I honestly think the Bears should just resign Jeff George though. He knows every offense basically and he could throw the ball deep. Surely you're joking. Krenzel>Fiedler. Please tell me you aren't serious. Krenzel won't even be on the squad next year. He looked terrible, he has no future in the NFL. Good guy, but get him the hell off my team. However, I agree on the George point. He should be resigned, and I think he will. I anticipate the Bears carrying four QBs on the roster. 1) Grossman 2) Hutchinson 3) Kitner 4) George
  5. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) I was referring to the current panels feelings toward him. I have no problem with Canseco outing the problem in his book, and many other people feel the same way. I do think he's been pretty sleazy about it though. And although he's taking a different tone today, he basically comes out as the spokesperson for steroid usage in his book. Yes, he's been upfront about it and there might be some good to come out of it. But from what I've read, I see no evidence that the book was for anything else than making money off it. Ok, I wasn't sure if you were referring to the current panels or the public at large. The guy has nothing to lose. He's already pretty notorious for being a sleaz. As we speak, I've just reached the half-way point in "Juiced". In the book, he does advocate some steroid use and endorses its "positive" effects, but I don't think that dimishes the books validity. He is a whistle blower in every sense of the term. He knows some deep, dark secrets and in an attempt to make some dough, he's willing to sell out all of his fellow ballplayers.
  6. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 03:52 PM) He has the least to lose, or so it seems, than the rest. No doubt. But, to that end, I feel he can also be as upfront and truthful as he wishes for that exact reason.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 03:48 PM) McGuire looks pretty guilty right now Absolutely. Believe it or not, Canseco has looked the best. He's handled himself very well.
  8. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Nobody likes Canseco. Disagreed. I respect the hell out of the man. Call him a whistle blower, call him what you will, this goof has been more up-front and respectable than any of the rest. Was he looking for some serious dough in writing "Juiced"? Perhaps. Does that diminish what he wrote in there or make things any less true? Absolutely not. I also feel that it will only be a matter of time before McGwire either admits to usage or is exposed as a former usage.
  9. "Mark, did you or did you not use steroids?" "I plead the fifthhhhhhhhhh!" "One-Two-Three-Four-FIFTHHHHHH"
  10. I like this Marlyland fellow. Hardass. To be blunt, I think each and every one of the men on that panel have used steroids. McGwire's continuous use of the fifth is extremely shady. Sorry Mark.
  11. Hey guys, Please don't hate me. I just got back from a day's worth of classes and simply don't have the energy to burn through 33 pages. If someone could post an all-encompasing review of today's events I would really, really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) I would say doing that along with this would work out. Seeing the consensus pick by Soxtalk is fun(except for Harris going to the Bills...WTFLOLZ ) The polls really aren't a contest...they are more just for fun. However, this would be an actual contest...seeing who has the brains to run a mock draft website(sorta). I think this is a good post. I'm not sure. In english this time wite?
  13. If Dusty departs it won't be because his players are trying to get rid of him. It's no wonder why Dustry is widely considered to be a "player's manager;" he lets his players do whatever they want! He has zero control over his clubhouse. This also applied to his time in San Fransico. When you have two players literally push eachother in the dugout, something is seriously wrong. He screwed up that entire situation. Oh yeah, how about letting his son run on to the field during play. On the Northside: -Didn't move Sammy down the order because he was the "Great Sammy Sosa." Big effing deal. When you are slumping, you need to be moved down the order, especially the way a few of the others were hitting. -Continued to put LaToya in save situations. -Allowed all conduct in the clubhouse. -Sits his son on his lap during post-game press conferences. Complete lack of professionalism. -He allowed his players (HIS!) to run out a broadcasting duo. That is simply unacceptable. What happens in the booth should stay in the booth. Those guys had no right to run those two out of town. The Cub players completely ran the show. If Dusty had a pair, he would have sat his players down and told them to worry about producing W's (which they were not). It also opened up a scapegoat situation. If that isn't enough, he is also documented as being a horrible game-day manager. So, we have a guy who is awful on the field and lets his players call the shots off the field...real nice. I doubt he is the first gone. He's perfect for the Northside.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) Pretty sure it has been said they will carry 12 pitchers Really? I've never heard this. Where'd ya hear this from wite?
  15. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) I think Pablo Ozuna will be able to handle utility infielder. We need a backup 3B now. Here's what you do. You set this image as your avatar, and everyone will know who you're pulling for. This way, we avoid further ugliness.
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) What? You don't like Mackowiak? Believe it or not, some don't share the same man-crush for Mackowiak you seem to possess. He's nothing to write home about. I, on the other hand, have wanted Mackowiak for two years now. He'd be an excellent piece of the puzzle. I really think he'd contribute. Plus, he grew up a die-hard Sox fan. He'd love to play here.
  17. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) Fiedler is a loser with no arm. Did you see the ridiculously stupid picks he threw last season? I know he had no offensive line but damn, it was almost like he was trying to throw the ball to the other team's players. Fiedler was the best option for the Bears. Hands down. If they would have landed him, it would have been a first-class signing.
  18. Anyone want to go out on a limb and say Diaz is wearing a different uniform by the end of the week, if not the end of the day?
  19. I'm really rooting for Widger to catch on with somebody. You have to give the guy props for making an attempt to get back in baseball after one full year off.
  20. My vote is today's starting pitcher. After having heard the scouts were checking him out and Jim verifying that, I think he'll be the first to go. IIRC, he's neither an Ozzie nor Kenny favorite.
  21. QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) Acually, I believe it was: "Evil will always triumph over good, because good is dumb." Yup, That's the line. Check out the film again. "...dumb...and you know it."
  22. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) If the bears want a good back up, they should go after Packers Craig Nall, i'm a packers fan so ive seen him play and he's pretty sharp. He's restricted free agent but i think its like a 5 round pick. Some other QB that were behind Brett Favre for a while - Matt Hassleback, Mark Brunell, Aaron Brooks. This guy wasn't too bad either.
  23. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:58 PM) We made Brian Anderson look good on a few occasions last year!! He looked like Cy Young against us last year. Both he and the diabetic pitcher, Jason Johnson, from Detroit had no business doing to us what they did. Strap it down. White Sox baseball next!
  24. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) I think we'll see Carl run a lot more than he has recently too. It'll be fun to watch this year. Agreed. I think we'll be seeing a lot more of the Carl of old. He's in shape, healthy, happy, batting cleanup: all the essentials for a happy, productive Carl.
  25. That about does it in terms of decent available backups. Angelo really dropped the ball with Fielder. Apparently, Fiedler was deeply offended by the Bear's offer. Well, the current depth chart: 1) Grossman 2) Hutchinson 3) Kitner
