  1. Hey fellas, Within the next week or so, the majority of the NFL Off-Season/Draft talk will be moving over to TalkBears.com. For those of you that haven't checked it out yet, I encourage you guys to go take a look. If we are able to generate the same passion at TalkBears.com that we have here at Soxtalk, TalkBears will become the internet's premiere Bears message board in no time; but, a lot of that depends on you. So, set www.TalkBears.com as a favorite, bring your NFL boots, tell all the guys in your fantasy football league, and we'll see you over there. Addy
  2. My question, as posed by ESPN's Doug Gottlieb: If Alford is such a big name in the state of Indiana, a name capable of grabbing the state's top talents, how come he wasn't able to get those same recruits to Iowa?
  3. That baseball player, what was his name, John Elway: he was an alright football player. C'mon. Don't blame this on his being a quarterback at Stanford. That Elway guy was also a quarterback at Stanford and he did just fine in professional sports.
  4. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) Looks like we will have 3 lefties in the bullpen and Hermanson will be on the DL to start the season... http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws It looks like Logan will be the LOOGY and Thornton will be the mop-up guy. Not buying it.
  5. QUOTE(The Critic @ Mar 20, 2006 -> 02:44 PM) To me, the only thing Kenny has "failed" at this offseason is addressing the 2nd lefty in the pen, and how many realistic options were even out there for that? It's been a more-than-solid offseason for the REAL 2005 Executive Of The Year. I've been saying that for a week or two, Critic. There are 29 other teams looking for a left-hander in the bullpen. You can argue he let Mike Myers and the like slip through the cracks, but, I can't fault Kenny for trying to fill the position from within or from his left-handed "competition." He's had a grade-a off-season thus far and I don't think he's done just yet. I can't imagine bringing both Logan and Thorton up north with Hermanson's health in doubt. Something else is in the works.
  6. Nothing to really add here, but, I still can't get over that Cintron deal. If Iguchi continues his sophomore slump--although he had a nice at-bat today--Cintron slides in and seemingly nothing is lost. To me, that's just incredible. Those moves are the moves that make championship ballclubs.
  7. "Thanks for stopping by, Nomo." "Enjoy your stay and we'll have your bags brought down to the lobby."
  8. McCown signs with the Lions. Harrington as good as gone. Per roto:
  9. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) Logan worked quickly this afternoon against a predominantly minor league lineup. Either today was played by a contingent of fringe talent, or this year's Rockies club is experiencing an astounding turnover. Difficult to judge anything from his 1.2IP other than his arsenal (which Cheat accuraely assessed) and composure. Didn't appear wide eyed. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing Logan pitch Friday against Texas. Guillen should place him in situations to fail. Test him against legitimate talent. Beyond that, there's one other date which is important--next Saturday, against San Francisco. I want Boone pitching to Bonds. It may not happen if our starter pitches deep, but I'd like to observe him against the most imposing LH in the game. I like it, Flash. I'm with you. If they're serious about bringing an A-baller to the majors, he has got to prove to me he can get better out than the Rockies junior varsity squad. But, he was awfully composed today. I think I failed to mention that. He looked cool, calm, and collected...even walking back to the dugout.
  10. Speak of the devil... Per roto: If good ol' number four is hanging it up, I'm bringing Aaron Brooks back to the Packers organization. He'd challenge Rodgers in camp and if the kid falters, you'll have a starting quarterback to bring in. If Harrington is out in Detroit, also look for the Lions to make a play for Brooks.
  11. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 08:42 PM) So now i wonder what the saints do with aaron brooks. Possibly trade him as bait in the draft. San Diego made a nice move Rivers should do well with all the options he has on offense. I can tell you what they'll try to do. They'll try to trade him the coming weeks before they'll have to outright cut him. I assure you he won't be with the team in 2006. Naturally, the Saints are in a tough spot he because they know they aren't likely to get equal value if they trade him with the entire league knowing they'll have to cut him anyway.
  12. QUOTE(SnB @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 08:56 PM) i'm one of those weirdos that can't drink water plain. I just need to have some sort of flavor in my liquids damnit! So i've become very partial to the crystal light and gatorade mixes. Yeah. I don't like you anyway, so...
  13. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) Good stuff, Maynard. Try yerba mate' when you get the chance. Good and earthy tasting like some green teas, but also with an assload of caffeine. I took caffeine completely out of my diet. Well, at least as complete as I can. I don't drink pop, I really don't eat any sweets. I'm actually a really healthy-eating college-kid. It's kind of creepy. But, right now we just have this green tea powder in a jar that I've been mixing in with water--because I'm out of bottled water, of which I drink about 4 a day--and I can't believe how good this stuff is. My mom swears by this stuff. I've never given it a try. I think I'm beginning to see what they're all talking about.
  14. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) I think they want the second lefty to just a lefty or two out. This Logan guy seems more suited for a LOOGY role than eating up innings. Hermanson (or his future replacement, whomever that may be) should be the innings-eater. Bingo. Beat you to it.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) Thats not what we need from him. We need him to eat up innings that we dont wants cotts and polite pitching, that is all. Well, Rock, we need it from somebody. That's the problem. We need it from somebody. The whole idea behind this "competition" was that someone would prevail as a LOOGY to come in and get those left-handers out. Cotts is far better at getting right-handers out than left-handers. If you're looking for inning-eaters, I think you're looking in the wrong place. Where's the LOOGY?
  16. Green Tea. Are you kidding me? This stuff is amazing. Two days into it, and I can't put it down. I'm hooked.
  17. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 07:52 PM) Fuentes can bring it at 91-93 MPH. I didn't watch the game today but what was Logan's fastball hitting on the gun? The Cheat said that he was throwing his fastball "87-90 MPH with late sinking movement." He wasn't popping the mit, and he certainly wasn't throwing harder than 91MPH. Although this was the first time I've watched him pitch--and he was pretty damn impressive--it looks like he has a real sneaky fastball. He comes at a real nasty angle and the looks of his pitches reminded me a lot of 2005 Cotts when he was just making hitters look goofy with that sneaky fastball. I don't really know just yet. I don't think I'd feel comfortable sending him out there against Travis Hafner in the seventh inning in a night game at US Cellular Field. But, it was encouraging and I'm all for guys earning themselves a roster spot by winning an open competition in spring training, just like Pablo last year. It's gonna be fun to track over the next few weeks.
  18. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Mar 15, 2006 -> 07:32 PM) The deliveries are slightly different. Wunsch does come from more down under where as Logan is more sidearm, but its basically the same funky motion. Not even close. Logan is a straight side/short-armer. He keeps the ball in his pitching hand, wraps it around the back, and releases in true side-arm fashion. To be honest, I don't think I ever remember seeing a release like his. Whoever said Fuentes was pretty accurate; I'd say that's one of the better comparisons currently in the league. The kid has good movement on his pitches and it didn't even look like he was efforting. Believe me, I do not want to bring a kid that never pitched above A ball to US Cellular Field against AL Central opponents, but, it's a start. Go back and let's see you do it consistantly.
  19. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) I was at the mall this past weekend and saw a bunch at one of the major athletic wear stores. It was either Footlocker or Champs or one of the other major chains, sorry can't remember which one. By the way, Lids has a lot of REALLY nice, St. Patty's day caps. Some have the Sox logo superimposed over a shamrock, they're sweet as hell. If I was Irish I sure woulda scooped me one. If you were at the HIP...it's Champs.
  20. QUOTE(quickman @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) I know where your coming from but not with that salary. You know, it's not that I even endorse the move, but, with Williams' past, he has shown he has no problem trading for guys he's got in the past...insert Robbie Alomar/Carl Everett joke here.
  21. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 14, 2006 -> 09:47 PM) What? The guy with a bloated salary who was called out by both KW and Ozzie last year for missing his starts??? Yup, that's him, the guy with an expiring contract, with post-season experience, and wore the White Sox uniform in October. That's the one.
  22. Boy, that Mario, if you didn't know the guy, you would never know he was a Chicagoan.
