  1. Has anyone else smiled with every Jim Thome at-bat? He is going to be an absolute ball to watch over the course of an entire season.
  2. QUOTE(joemg311 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) Well yeah I do agree that everything so far has pointed towrds its being andersons job to lose. But Cintron means that Mack is freed up to play more outfield. Cintron and Ozuna have the infield coverd. I just figure why not start mack if he is going to be the better player out of the gates. But i still have no idea how well he plays centerfield. The White Sox are better served to have Mackowiak in a super-utility role. Brian Anderson is this team's starting center-fielder. He projects to be in that position for awhile, so, we need to come to terms with that. Are there going to be some growing pains? Sure. But, show me a big-leaguer that didn't have those pains. If I had to guess, Anderson is going to be a fan-favorite in no time. Give the kid a shot, he's earned it and at the very least, he should be able to replicate Rowand's year at the dish. He's a former first-round draft selection, he's a guy Kenny has defended consistently, and his ability made Aaron Rowand expendible. Let's all sit back and give BA his shot. Also, to be perfectly honest with you, there is no one else to really man that position at this point in time. Rob Mackowiak is not an everyday center-fielder, I think his defensive play would leave a lot to be desired and with that, we would lose the benefit of his versatility off the bench. As far as minor-leaguers, nothing doing.
  3. Everything thus far has pointed towards Anderson starting with Mackowiak getting at least one start a week in the outfield. If there are others more energetic than I today and feel like finding some of Kenny's quotes, I'm sure that would answer this question a little better for you. But, if you want to take me on good faith, Anderson is the starter and Mackowiak looks to be the primary backup for all three outfield positions. However, I'm still not finding the connection between the acquisiton of Cintron and a starting CF role for Rob Mackowiak.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 03:26 PM) Someone needs to be more specific on the PBP while we are at work. Beggers can't be choosers, boy-ee.
  5. Perhaps we're seeing why Kenny and company are so big on Ryan Sweeney. If I had to guess, he is probably a big part of that five-year board. Brandon needs to tune-in; luckily, there is plenty of time left for that. He's a gamer anyway.
  6. As long as we keep making sure to send prisoners with "high information" status to Gitmo, I have no problem with it. :rolly
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) Maybe in bizzaro world. Here in the real world, Gload is gone. He has been in denial for two days. He just can't come to grips with Gload being the odd man out.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 06:41 PM) The Lions i think makes sense, especially given Garcia's injury history...the Bills I don't think as much. Ramsey isn't going to make or break their season, and they're already so far over the cap they're cutting key defensive people. Garcia is a free agent, yes?
  9. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) Just heard about this trade. So how'd we get Cintron and only give up a garbage arm in Baj? Something to do with Boston...I dunno.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) I dont understand the debate about the roster. It seems pretty set from what I see. Borch gets final position player spot. Lopez is the loogy, and play ball. Cut from the same cloth, we are, Rock.
  11. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:57 PM) Cintron isn't a great player. If he was a great player he would be making a lot more than $1.6 million. He is a valuable player. He hits and can play several positions at least adequately. He is a bench player for the White Sox who will probably get a lot of playing time. To get him for someone the Sox were obviously going to send to Charlotte is a no-brainer. I still hope that KW has another move in mind to strengthen the bullpen. It is a huge concern of mine. Ah Ha!!!!!! Sanity prevails. Can I offer up a suggestion to the class, from this post forward, can we consider this a new thread? Richie makes two excellent points here. At the end of the day--I hate that cliche, I apologize--the White Sox landed a utility player they've shown interest in for at least two seasons, a guy that can move around the infield and a guy that does all the little things right for someone that had no place on their roster and was all but stamped as a non-prospect at this point. Point two: is there another deal in the wings here, albeit a minor one? Is Gload going to be the one moved--as I believe he will--for some package of minor leaguers or a left-hander that can compete for that final spot this year. Anyone on board with turning the corner in this thread?
  12. Keith, when I was going over the roster an hour or two ago, I'm came up with 23 as well. C-Pierzynski 1B-Konerko 2B-Iguchi SS-Uribe 3B-Crede RF-Dye CF-Anderson LF-Podsednik DH-Thome Bench: Widger, Mackowiak, Cintron, Ozuna, Borchard/Gload SP Buehrle SP Garcia SP Contreras SP Garland SP Vazquez CP Jenks RP Hermanson RP Politte RP McCarthy LP Cotts LP Lopez/"Competition" Winner For me, that's adding up to 25. That look about right to anyone else?
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) The Vikes should REALLY want that to happen, IMO. The Culpepper in Miami thing, that is. Personally though, I just don't see the Vikes getting to the point in the draft where they can find a guy to replace Culpepper in the next year or two. We saw them perform with Johnson...if they come out and are a .500 team for the next year or two, then they won't have a shot at a top-tier QB unless it's through FA. And given how many QB's are out there right now, and the fact that they have a metric f***ton of salary cap room this year, I think this is the year they should make a run at a new QB if they're moving Daunte. Good point. You never know, Brees might be the guy. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but, hasn't it been reported that the Vikings were showing interest in Brees weeks ago? Wasn't that kind of the starting point for all this...kinda got the ball rolling? If I'm the Bears, I'm worried if Brees ends up with the Vikings. The guy is a straight-gamer and if they surround him with the right pieces, they could be a dangerous team for the next few years. If you sign Drew Brees, draft DeAngelo Williams, and get some type of package for Culpepper, you got something to run with right there.
  14. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) There is no way in hell that Ozuna going anywhere unless he hits under .200 (which won't happen) for most of the season. Thanks. Seriously, are there others in the same camp as Cheat? Is the Cintron deal a precursor for sending Ozuna down to Charlotte? If it is, just let me know. The trade seems a lot less helpful when thinking about it in terms of Ozuna v. Cintron. Ozuna is going to be able to make a lot of the things Cintron makes possible for you at a fraction of the price. Frankly, if it's Ozuna v. Cintron, I don't like the deal at all. Now, when you start taking about adding Cintron to a bench with Ozuna, then we're talking...then it becomes a strengthing move.
  15. Arguing with redandwhite is like pushing that big button on the wall that says, "Do Not Push." I've lost sympathy for those that continue arguing with him. Every topic gets spun into a Red Sox lovefest with him and that's all good and fine; but, fellas, ya'll are just throwing fuel into the fire. I've asked him to at least change his tag to Red Sox Apologist about six months ago; it would at least act as some disclaimer.
  16. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) I'm not saying that Ozuna should or shouldn't be on the roster. But he possesses two abilities that Ozzie seems to love -- speed and bunting. I'm pretty sure Ozzie will want to keep him on the roster over Gload. Frankly, I'd be stunned if Gload makes it over Pablo, for more reasons than I care to mention here. That thought never even came to me. ...wait and see I guess.
  17. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) I really have a feeling the Vikes are going to regret the moves they've made recently, especially with him. They better think they can land Brees. I'm guessing they'll hand the 2006 team over to Brad Johnson and they'll look at an Omar Jacobs, Brodie Croyle, or the like to groom for the future. Usually, these new head coaches like developing their own signal-caller. I could be wrong. They could absolutely look at Brees or Ramsey, but, that's not the vibe I'm getting. If Brees doesn't end up in Miami, Culpepper will.
  18. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) Pablo's headed to AAA... Check his contractHe signed a split contract. Although I'm well aware what contract he signed in the off-season, sending Pablo to Charlotte would be an absolute crime. After outright winning last year's final remaining roster spot, he's gone well above and beyond the call of duty. He's done everything asked of him. I don't think sending Pablo down to Charlotte is even an option at this point. He's a member of the big-league club.
  19. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:49 PM) Wait...is...is this who I think it is? Nice post total by the way. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 8, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Gload's the attitude problem? May I ask where this has come from? I'll try and find the documentation that goes along with it. Give me a minute.
  20. It's a kind a magic... The more I think about this deal, the more I wonder if Arizona also included a gun and loot-bag. This just in, Grandstand reporting a huge influx of requests to replace and re-number Chicago White Sox Jeff Bajenaru home uniforms.
  21. Even before the acquisition of Alex Cintron, the writing has been on the wall for quite some time. If you've been following this team closely, you would know Ross has appeared to be the odd man out for awhile now. Personally, I can't help but get the feeling this guy does not have the attitude or the make-up for this ballclub. I know I'm not alone when I say it appears Ross has an attitude problem that's been apparent for at least two seasons. Let the countdown begin. He's out of options, there is no place for him to go within this organization, and he's bound to have more opportunities available elsewhere. Is he on the way out? Any ideas on where he might be headed? Does he have some value left? What would you like in return? ...Kenny worked some magic in that Cintron deal, by the way.
  22. If you saw the seminar with Ozzie and Kenny at Soxfest, this really comes as no suprise.
  23. This is an amazing trade. If this is true, and I see no reason to believe otherwise, Kenny pulled off a Uribe-esq move here. Bajenaru, despite being Soxtalk's prodigal son, has shown me nothing to believe he can last in the big-leagues, while Cintron, much like a Mackowiak or Ozuna, can slide around the infield and has to be considered one of the better reserves in baseball. Grade A trade for the White Sox and props go out to all the Soxtalkers that were calling for an acquisition of Alex Cintron--present company included--as early as last off-season. Put that on the board. Can someone say 11 pitchers carried?
  24. Both Gload and Borchard are out of minor-league options, so you can pretty much bank on at least one of them on the major-league roster. That said, I'm really not thrilled with carrying one, let alone both, of them if neither has shown they can consistently get it done in spring training. An interesting name to throw around for s*** and giggles would be Richard Hidalgo. I know he's up there in age, his play is on a steady decline, and he just left the O's because he was promised only a bench spot, but, if he can be had at the right price, and he'd be willing to sit on the bench for the defending world champions before trying his hand in Japan, he'd be an ideal fourth outfielder. His defensive play leaves a lot to be desired, but, at least we know he can hit major league pitching and could spell either Podsednik or Dye without looking completely lost.
  25. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 7, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) Ha, yes, I'm shocked he's still with this organization. To be honest with you, I am too. Recent trends suggest those types of players don't last long here. I can't believe a) he's still here and b ) he stands a chance of making a roster spot.
