NFL Off-Season Rumor Mill
AddisonStSox replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Nothing new to add, but, my impeachable source has confirmed that the Bears front-office will make a very serious consideration to draft Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal with either a second, or a preferable third-round pick regardless of an Antwaan Randle-El signing. -
Jim, TQ, if either of you guys are there, please, please post anything that merits some sort of mentioning. With every spring training that passes, I realize more and more I appreciate what our Soxtalk "Insiders" have to say far more than the beat or national reporters. You guys do a grade-a job and I would consider your baseball prowess to be invaluable. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

QUOTE(Felix @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) By adjusting, I mean to a new team. He seemed to be emotionally connected to last years team, and this organization, and coming back to get a ring could be a tough thing for him to do, knowing that he won't be apart of the team this year. For all I know, he could be fine with it, and gotten past it, but I'm just speculating. Is it the same family problem that he was handling about the time he was traded, Steff? If it is, that's a shame. Hopefully, that can all get worked out for him.

...and Charlotte's staff is now beginning to fill itself out.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) Chris Singleton is awful. Goodbye Sox radio. Wow he's bad. It's his first game, yes? Cut the guy some slack. Judging with an N of 1? Come now.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 10:43 AM) I know Lowe attended the Red Sox ring ceremony. I also remember him getting a lot of flack from the LA media about it. I think alot of it had to do with him wearing a Red Sox jersey to the thing. Not sure if Aaron would do it, but Philly fans and media were giving him s*** for simply going to a Bears game. He might not want to subject himself to the scrutiny. It would be awesome if he was there though. Ultimately, I think that's what it's going to come down to. The fans of Philladelphia are world-renown for their behavior; does Aaron want to start off on the wrong foot? Would he just not care? We'll see.
-
I could have swore both Derek Lowe and Dave Roberts were there for the ring ceremony when the Sawx won the World Series. Lowe, a Dodger, even wore his Red Sox jersey. Is this any different? Is it up to Aaron? I'm sure the White Sox extended an invitation; it's probably in the hands of both the Phillies and Aaron. I would imagine Aaron would love to come back for the ceremony and reunite with his Stooges, but, I could also just as easily see him decline and start a new chapter of his life in red spikes. Anyone hear anything?

QUOTE(rventura23 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:41 PM) konerkos home run was unlike anything Ive ever seen. I have never seen a crowd go so nuts. You got it, my man. I've never before expierenced an electric atmosphere like that in my entire life. He blew the roof off US Cellular Field. It was mind-blowing. Indescribable.

I'll just c'n'p my response in a different thread:
-
The Paul Konerko seventh-inning Grand Slam in Game Two of the 2005 World Series will go down as my favorite moment in White Sox history. Actually in attendance, the place was just waiting to explode, and, at that very moment, Paulie connects on a first-ball fastball. Being able to enjoy that expierence with my old man, someone who has lived and died with this ballclub, someone who passed his passion for his White Sox on to his oldest son, and someone who needed to break out of an in-person post-season losing streak with his belov'ed Sox, is just indescribable. We were just saying, "hey, how about Paulie comes through and hits a grand frickin' slam," and mid-sentence, Paulie connects. The ball kept carrying, carrying, carrying...the outfielder went back, back, back...and even when that ball landed in the left-field stands, it took a couple moments to realize what exactly just happened. We just looked each other and lost our minds; it was at that very moment that I knew that team was destined to win, not just for themselves, not just for the critcs, but, for all the fans that have been waiting their entire lives for this best-of-seven. An image frozen in time, an absolute flash-bulb memory, something I'll never forget for as long as I live...seeing our Paulie hit a go-ahead Grand Slam in the World Series with my old man on the Southside of Chicago, rocking out to the "Go Go White Sox" montage and AC/DC's Thunderstuck moments later... I just got the chills.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Reggie has alot to prove to NFL teams to become a QB on the next level. He only had a few great games in his college career marked with alot of mediocrity, especially for the amount of hype he had coming into college. However, he did play very well in one of the senior bowl type games at QB, which led alot of people to question Franchionne's offense. I think Reggie's throwing workout will totally judge his future, if he does well, you might see a team take a chance on him at the QB position. If he does poorly, you will see alot of teams trying to talk him into converting to WR so they can watch him catch the ball. I personally think he will do good enough in workouts to warrant teams giving him a shot at QB, especially with his speed and arm. Going to disagree with the latter statement. He's not NFL quarterback material. The minute he has a Belichick or Dungy defensive package thrown at him, he'd crack. His future is as a WR/Trick-Play/Emergency QB, much like Mr. Randel-El. If he was smart, he'd start catching some balls in the backyard from whoever was willing to throw it. -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) Frank's Pizza on Belmont & Narragansett. Gigio's Pizza on Waukegan & Oakton But for the most part, good pizza joints are few and far between on the NW side. The restaurants in general just suck uncontrollably around here, unless of course you want to go to a Steakhouse and spend your money like a dumbass. You've disappointed me, bro. We have our fair-share of neighborhood pizza joints on the northwest side of the city. I'll trot out a list off the top of my head: Beje's (Pronounced B-G's) on Irving, between Oriole and Forest Reserve Drive -Great thin-crust, Chicago-neighborhood pizza. Amazing, unique flavors, and cut in small, square, true-to-Chicago thin-crust slices -should be in your backyard, yes? Villa Napoli on Lawrence and Cumberland Al's Pizza--multiple locations on the NW side Vince's Pizza--multiple locations, how about on Higgens east of Harlem Father and Son's--multiple Sorrento's on Harlem and Sayre Bacci's on Lawrence and, oh, I dunno, Manheim Phil's on Northwest Highway Northwest Pizza Represent The grass is always greener, huh, bro? I'm telling you, wait until you leave the city and you just wish you had one of the greasy neighborhood dives that we take for granted.

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 27, 2006 -> 07:09 PM) Manny Lawson, OLB/DE NC State clocked as high as 4.41 in the combine at 6'6 241 pounds, another absolute freak of nature. Combine that with his decent strength and 45 inch vertical and you have a wonderful OLB/DE prospect. Also, Mario Williams not quite the next Julius Peppers, but probably the closest thing since. 6'7 295 and ran as low as 4.69 in the 40. If you talk to Scott, he'll tell you Lawson is the second-coming. I don't quite know where he projects to go, but, I now suspect he'll be a late first-round selection. Just spitballing: if the Packers have the opportunity to draft an AJ Hawk in the first round, and, if by some grace of God, can land Lawson in the second round, they'll be back on top before we know it. That said, they may very well go with Mario Williams.

I just heard through the grapevine the Bears plan on getting some film and devoting some time to the thought of selecting Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal in the early-middle rounds. I wish I could state my source here, I really do, but, ya'll are just going to have to take me on good faith. I'd like to think I'm worthy of that round' here. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:40 PM) My personal favorite is the unemployment percentage numbers, which don't really reflect how many people in this country are actively looking for work very well at all. Ah, how could I forget? That really is an excellent example and one we've actually spent a considerable amount of time on. I'll try to dig that one up. Any others? Maybe from the extreme right or left?

QUOTE(quickman @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) Funny man ...it's the first opportunity I've had to bust your balls in some time. I had to jump on it.

QUOTE(quickman @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:34 PM) This kind of crap happened last year with Maggs and Carlos Lee. Everyone was fine. None of the players or orgs are very professional anymore. Steinbrenner makes his guys shave and wear suits to the ball park, yet the guy is a lunatic treating his couches and staff like s***, and calling out his players. Every org has issues. this is nothing. Hey, the way the man treats his couches is his own business. Who are we to judge? What he does behind closed doors is of no concern to me.

Hey, gang, was just looking for a bit of assistance: Do any of you have a misleading statistic available? We are taking a look at some misleading statstics in my Social Statistics course and I was just wondering if any of you have a favorite? It can be from the left. It can be from the right. It can be from nowhere in particular--i.e. a graph or chart from Cosmo or something to that end. A link? A suggestion? Soxtalk never disappoints. Thanks.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:08 PM) Ya, kevhead is dead on, imo. But, by the same token, let's not make Kenny out to be a saint. He, too, has his share of skeletons. What we have here assembled in 2006 appears to be a completely selfless ball club. I don't quite think this happened by accident. Those that weren't on board with the way this organization was heading are no longer present...not even if you have 450 homeruns.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) 403 Forbidden QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 25, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) ^^^ Thanks, fellas. This has to be the worst absolute time for this to be happening. As for Vince's test scores? Unreal. You can't write this stuff. -
QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) I think some are mistaken by thinking this blowup by KW is just from Frank's recent comments. As far as I can tell, this is an overall backlash at the kind of guy Frank has been since KW has been in charge. I think the recent interview, while not exactly a thrashing of the Sox organization, was just the straw that broke the camels back. ...now we're getting somewhere.
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 06:52 PM) I don't get what the problem is. All Frank has said is that he thinks somebody should've told him directly that he was no longer in the team's future plans. Should Frank shut up about it and let it go? No doubt. But I don't see how Frank is disrespetcing Jerry, Kenny and the rest of the organzation. And Kenny has definitely lost some respect from me for saying, whether it's true or not, that Jerry loaned Frank money. That was stupid and totally uncalled for. Both men come off losers in this situation. Someone needed to step up and be the bigger man and it just didn't happen. If I had to guess, maybe Kenny is referring to Reinsdorf helping Frank out about the time his dad or agent died...or was it both? I know Reinsdorf set him up with current agent Art Tellum. But, as you've said, both guys come off losers when things like this gets taken to the press. It's just really disappointing from the Frank Thomas standpoint.

Could Chicago host the 2016 games?

QUOTE(THEWOOD @ Feb 26, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) I totally agree with you. I would be against having the olympics here in chicago. I honestly think it would be a waste of money and taxes would increase for us here in chicago. ...not to mention the absolute chaos downtown. It would be horrendous...absolutely unbearable. Take your Olympics elsewhere.
