White Sox (3-7) VS Giants (5-3) - 3/10
AddisonStSox replied to Kalapse's topic in 2006 Season in Review
DJ acknowledging that Borchard and Gload are competing for that final bench spot. Borchard grounds out to SS to end the inning, but, it sounds like the fight is on. -

Iguchi puts an excellent swing on the ball and comes up with his first hit of the spring. He doubles to the wall in right-center and advances on the throw home. That was the Iguchi of old, right there. -

I think Hawk and DJ tossed a few back before today's broadcast. Dare I say, PBR? Paulie scores on the single by Dye: 4-0 Good Guys, 2 down in the bottom half of the third. -

Cooper also showing their hand a bit, saying they are looking for, "a lefty on lefty, guy." This may be the first time I've actually heard them come out and say that; the first time I've heard them actually say they are looking for a lefty specialist. Cooper also says he's "pleased" with Jenks. He's not concerned, saying he has been doing some conditioning and, "hey, Bobby is just a big kid." -

Cooper on the headset: they are concerned about Hermanson's back. They aren't quite sure if it's something to worry about, but, it's worth mentioning. Says Lopez is the front-runner for that final lefty spot, but, he doesn't want to short-change Almanzar or Reynoso...the only two he mentioned by name. -

Now, Hawk giving DJ an impersonation of the facial expressions one of the pitchers Hawk faced back in the day in the booth to the bewilderment of the viewing audience. After 3 1/2, 2-0 Good Guys. Contreras looking filthy. He's still got it, guys. -

No one caught my, "you can put it on the Gload, yes!"? Shucks. I thought that was pretty witty. -
An opposite field home-run for Joe. We know you can hit the long-ball, LTP, now keep hitting it to the opposite field and that roster spot is as good as yours. I'm pulling like hell for him.

Bears looking at Archuleta
AddisonStSox replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
That would be an excellent acquisition. Excellent. He's not the player he used to be, but, his best seasons were with Lovie in St. Louis and you couple that with Brown's injury problems and that might be a worthwhile acquisition. -
QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Sorry if this has been talked bout already but I would move Lewis up to number 2. He went off in the Senior Bowl and is who I am hoping the Bears get with the 26th pick. No offense, chief, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell Lewis has moved up on the draft board. If anything, he continues to hurt himself, moving well behind Anthony Fasano at this point. He's far from the second best TE available. It's almost laughable.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) We have never left MARS! Seriously those rovers have kicked an incredible amount of ass. What is it, something like two years past their life expectancy? You're right, they really have kicked ass. It's getting kinda funny at this point, though. I hear the probes on both of them are pretty much cashed, so, it'll be kinda fun to see what happens.

Everett takes jab -- moves too disruptive?

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:29 PM) Carl that man who does this is named Ozzie Guillen. We will be fine. I'm with you. If Carl thinks he was the glue that held that thing together, I think he is mistaken, but, I think his concern about losing some of that chemistry is pretty valid. Don't forget, these athletes don't necessarily take courses on how to deal with the media. Playing your old team for the first time, some Sox beat-reporter puts a mic in your face, you might say something less eloquent that what you hoped for. Carl leaves with a Grade A in my book. He was class through-and-through during his time with the Sox and I honestly hope he finds success with the M's. -

QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Carl you can shut your mouth, just shut your mouth I didn't get that impression at all. Carl, like our manager, is going to speak his mind. His so-called "clubhouse cancer" stigma was proved false in our clubhouse and I think everyone in the White Sox organization wouldn't consider his comments cheap shots. Sour grapes? Could be. But, I honestly just feel like he was speaking his mind. He was a part of something very special last year; if anyone knew how tight-knit that clubhouse was, it'd be him. He makes a valid claim. -
Bears To Target Randle El
AddisonStSox replied to nitetrain8601's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
This is one of those rare cases where I endorse over-paying for a talent. I think Randle-El would add such a unique threat to an otherwise stagnant offense that he would pay for himself. Whenever you have a defensive coordinator spending time on another player like that, it opens up some other aspect of the game. It sounds like he wants to be here. Bring him home. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 05:45 PM) BY 07 he should be in the majors. All he needs is a healthy year in the minors. He has too good of a swing not to succeed. He's been on the fast track already and I'd go more along the lines of a month or two in Bham, rest of the year in Charlotte. Sweeney may be replacing Anderson and not Dye in the immediate future. I actually think Sweeney could come in and hit better than Brian at the major league level right now. Anderson has a lot left to prove cause I have my doubts as to how his swing (which is ugly as hell) will work at the major league level. That's the number one thing you hear when baseball minds start talking about Ryan Sweeney. He has the sweet-swing scouts can only dream about.

NFL Off-Season Rumor Mill
AddisonStSox replied to AddisonStSox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Mar 9, 2006 -> 05:33 PM) According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Daunte Culpepper is about 24 hours from being traded to most likely the Raiders, but possibly to the Dolphins or Jets. This is going to be a lot of fun. Culpepper back with Moss in Oakland? I mean, you can't write this stuff... Bring on the off-season! -
I love the Ozz-a-roo. Clear as a bell: "Swing the f***in' bat." Thanks Comcast. I'm out. Have a good one all.

Fields does some yard-work. Three run job. Josh is putting a nice little spring together for himself. 8-3 Good Guys.
-
Almanzar and Reynoso both saying, "what about us?" Almanzar with a 1-2-3 inning and Reynoso was impressive getting out of a jam. Before spring training, I had Reynoso pegged as the second lefty, but was told he had a control problem. Anyone out there to verify that? Rex? Rich? He seems to have a live enough arm, but, if it's control that's the problem, that's another story. There's no room for a new left-hander that likes putting the first man on via BB.

If you're talking wings in Chicagoland, the discussion begins and ends with Buffalo Joe's in Evanston.

Hawk mentioning the fantastic spring Pablo had last year to earn himself the last roster spot. If I heard him correctly, Pablo even lead the entire Cactus League in hitting. It seems some folks are so quick to cast Pablo aside with the acquisition of Cintron that they've forgotten how valuable a guy like Pablo is. He went above and beyond the call of duty last year as a non-roster invitee and looks to provide some speed and versatility off the bench this year. Having both Ozuna and Cintron makes an above-average bench even better. As Kenny said, "he got greedy." This is one of the deeper benches in recent memory. If this team can stay healthy and avoid the injury-bug as well as last season, they are primed for some pretty amazing things.
