  1. Last I heard, the move was pending Orlando Hernandez's physical.
  2. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) Yeah, I'm not quite sure where he's been going all season with the Tuner-Shoop compairisons. Turner is leagues above what Shoop brought to the table. He's been doing a fine job this year, he's done a nice job given the talent at the QB position. You'll see him open up the passing game in the weeks to come with Grossman on board. Just you watch. It'll be a different game plan. Jones is going to get his carries on first down, but he'll be much more willing to pass the football on second and third downs now.
  3. For what it's worth, I feel the Bears are going to hold on to that pick and grab the TE from UCLA, Lewis. He is one hell of a football player--a freak. He has WR talent in a TE's body. If he's already off the board, and he very well may be, I'd still like them to look at the TE position and draft one of my highest-ranked sweethearts this year in the 6'7 Pope from UGA.
  4. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) What do people think about that Rivers kid in San Diego? Or do we need to keep our picks in order to get more CB depth, a good TE, etc? It looks like Brees is gonna be firmly entrenched at the QB slot for the Chargers. Somebody is going to wind up with this Rivers kid, as he's making way too much money to be a bench-warmer. I know jack s*** until I get a chance to observe a guy on the NFL level & supplement my observations with statistics and what not. Rivers could suck uncontrollably for all I know. Rivers is going to be a good ballplayer. He's an unconventional QB of sorts. Unless he's really refined his mechanics, that was really his only true knock coming out of the college game. The skills are there. He has what it takes upstairs. All signs point towards a pretty nice run in the league. I don't know if I'm as positive the Chargers will be bringing back Drew Brees as you are, though. If they can't find the right package for Rivers, they'll be more than happy to bid farewell to Brees and let Rivers take over. It might not be the popular move, but, that's a move they could very well make. Personally, I wouldn't give up the package to get him. Hell, I'd love to be the team to land Brees--he's proven(period). Barring any other sort of collapse at the QB position, I think you'll see the Bears let Orton and Grossman duke it out in a battle of the junior varsity quarterbacks in camp. If Angelo is able to get the right veteran backup in here next year, he will have bought himself another year or two before he has to dip back into the draft for some "young, promising talent." Let's see how Sexy Rexy does in these next few games. If he is able to lead the squad and put some points on the boards in the playoffs, he will have earned a shot to be this team's qb in 06-07. I can see a team like the Ravens or maybe the Titans go after Rivers. IMO, he just doesn't seem like a significant upgrade. What he brings to the table is very similar to a healthy UF Rex Grossman.
  5. This was a no-brainer. Kenny made a nice signing and may have gotten him for a little under open-market value. He's locked up. Well done. Pierzynski deserves to be this team's staple at C. Love this.
  6. QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 11:00 AM) If it is 7 DVDs, it could be one for the regular season, one for the ALDS, one for the ALCS, and then four for the WS with the post game show and parade as "Special Features". Do you think Kenny can swing a deal to send Jon Garland to A&E Home Video for a seven-disc set including every playoff game in its entirety as well as pre/post-game and celebration footage?
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Dec 19, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) How do you know? I can't find anything on that ad that says this. What about the postgame stuff? How else can you justify paying $62 for a DVD set?
  8. Is this it!?!?!?!? Is this the one we've all been waiting for? I think this is the closest we've come by far. Fingers crossed this will include every playoff game in its entirety. This looks awfully promising...makes my not recording the games on CSN not feel so bad. This is the exact box-set I've been holding out for.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I really think that Texas is where Garland winds up if the Sox trade him. They desperately need pitching, and eventually will be willing to overpay. I also think the Sox love Blalock. Those Blalock talks scare the hell out of me. I'm perfectly content with what Crede brings to the table day-in-and-day-out. I realize he is a Boras client, but, I really think with another solid year under his belt, he needs to be looked at as this team's staple at 3B for years to come. I'm a total believer in a strong defensive club after having watched that run last season. I like both Diamond and Danks, but, throw in Blalock's name and I start getting nervous...I might be alone in those sentiments.
  10. QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Dec 18, 2005 -> 10:04 AM) Isn't Izturis slated to miss half the season? And what purpose would he serve on the current White Sox? I could see Garland being moved to LA, just don't know why Izturis should be involved. Yes, he is slated to miss the first half of the season. He provides depth at both middle infield positions--although, iirc, he hasn't been at 2B in quite some time--and is somebody that can start for prolonged periods of time if someone were to go down to injury. It never hurts to get depth like that up the middle. He's a very solid ball-player. I'm happy with Izturis, Billingsley and either Broxton or Jackson--if they aren't willing to part with either one of those two, perhaps someone like Young. Billingsley would be considered this organization's top prospect, no question. EDIT: Reflecting on this post, that would be an absolutely amazing package for Garland. Wow. I think I may have gone a bit overboard. If Kenny is able to net a package like that, he will have had two of the most successful consecutive off-seasons--at least on paper--in recent memory.
  11. That's just an interesing infield. Around the horn: Mueller, Furcal, Kent, Garciaparra. If the Dodgers emerge as a front-runner in the Garland discussion, methinks Izturis' name needs to be a part of the talks. Izturis--current MLB talent--Billingsley--the number one prospect in the organization--and another mid-level prospect is what I'd look for in return. It's about damn time the White Sox find a suitor willing to overpay for some of our talent. Garland needs to be looked at as one of the best players available and should be acquired as such. If Kenny can find a way to make that trade happen, you come out aces no matter what the rest of the off-season looks like.
  12. Listen, we have to include question marks or something. Unless something is a done deal, please, please include a question mark or say rumor or something to that end.
  13. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Dec 17, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) :headshake After the last couple years, I think it's near hysterical to even insinuate that Kenny Williams is ever "asleep at the wheel" as a GM. Slowly but surely this website is reaching "Kenny can do no wrong" mode.
  14. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) I think the Twins should do the Santana for Luis Gonzlez and Ortiz.. Its can't miss! Your signature is absolutely incredible. f***in' a, bro. Dime
  15. I would have been very happy with the acquisition of Ron Villone. Seeing as how a few of our players already have one foot out the door, I'd be very suprised if the Sox couldn't top this offer without really giving up anything of value to the 2006 roster. That prospect the Marlins got in return is pathetic. If you land Villone, that's one less worry in the bullpen. You'd have people competing for one spot instead of two. Meh.
  16. This really hurts when you look at what the Yankees gave up for Villone. That's just awful. Why Willie or Timo weren't offered is beyond me. I'm not saying the Marlins would do a deal straight-up for either of those two, but, the f***ing Yankees gave up a non-prospect and were able to land a very nice lefty in Villone. Was Kenny asleep at the wheel on this one?
  17. QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) I just think it's kind of funny. I actually was called that (in all seriousness) for suggesting that honey bees do not have language. Oh, I know, Soxy. It is funny. ...and, the first step to curing yourself of speciesism is admitting you have a problem. Clearly, you're in denial.
  18. QUOTE(Soxy @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I think the word (and yes it's actually a word) you're looking for is speciesist. Because knowledge is power!
  19. Cite any successful examples? Has this ever been attempted? Silly.
  20. Yeah, and let's go cut down our Holliday Tree. f***ing hell. I hate people.
  21. Sooooooooooooo, you're saying there's a chance.
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) From my experience.. that is incorrect. The gene present increases the odds of becomming an abuser. If I had to guess.. I would say the % of alcoholics who had parents who were is pretty close to 100% No, if you never touched it, you wouldn't become an alcoholic. But if you did, your chances are greater that you would. Nature v. Nurture EDIT: You can't possibly tell someone they are incorrect on that subject.
  23. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) Everything I am seeing in the media, other than rotoworld, has been very positive about the moves the Sox have made. Yet, here we are in an "Evil Kenny Williams" thread. Sometimes I wonder just what it takes to satisfy some Sox fans. A World Championship... Hey... Wait...
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 10:06 AM) I'll say this... The D'Backs obviously liked Young over Milledge. Benson > El Duque + Viz Though I suppose from the D'backs perspective, they prefer Duque and Viz because they're guaranteed about $8M less than Benson and only require a 1 year comittment. Well, I don't think it's quite as obvious for the reasons you gave in the latter part of the post. We can's possibly know if they--the D'Backs--preferred Young over Milledge. Actually, from all I've read, I've got great reason to believe Milledge is the better of the two prospects--difference being, Young has the power numbers. Milledge makes a whole lot of sense to me as does a combination of Wilkerson and Danks/Diamond. The organization seems to have a working relationship with the Danks family and Wilkerson is a prototypical-Williams type player--although he really has shown anything goes as of late--and Danks and Diamond both project to be front-of-the-rotation pitchers. Keep Crede and Blalock out of it. That situation is a mess.
