QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) The Mets might be a possibility. Bingo. I was looking around baseball last night for quite some time and Omar Minaya seems like a VERY possible suitor. Finding himself in a Win-Now mode, Minaya might be willing to sacrifice a bit of the farm and some bullpen arms to land a pitcher the calibur of Jon Garland. Milledge would undoubtedly be considered the CF of the future, making Chris Young's departure rather insignificant. I'd be very suprised if the Mets weren't a-calling.

Scrolling down would have found you the exact same thread, D. f*** it: Lastings Milledge. I want to see a package from that "wizard" Omar Minaya surrounding Lastings Milledge. There. Said it.
-
Last guy I would have expected to see this thread from. 53 years of age and you're crying about losing "your guys?" Baseball is a business. To think Williams is destroying a Championship roster just for the hell of it is pretty silly if you ask me. I would think you've been around long enough to see that keeping rosters in-tact just for the sake of keeping rosters in-tact is asssinine. 2006 is a new year, with a new team. You'll come to love them just as much as the boys from 2005 and we'll be in a pennant chase in no time. Buy the Sox DVDs, take out your baseball card collection, and bring out the kleenex. Evil Kenny Williams. Oh my.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) What's the over/under on length of the homer Hafner will hit against Baj in the first series of 2006? I never did like Vizcaino, but Baj would be a significant downgrade in the pen. In-house. Won't cost you a thing. Mop-up. Works for me. Unless, of course, a Garland trade or the like brings about a significant UPgrade. There is just so much time left before ST. It's almost impossible to make any projection.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) Baj's stuff doesn't seem to translate into major league stuff. Duck and cover, bra. Know what, Bajenaru might actually get his shot now. Unless some dynamo righty is being brought in, I see no reason as to why Bajenaru can't be considered the favorite for the righty/mop-up role. Reserve your jersey now.

My, my, how the tides have turned. Try telling Soxtalk both Contreras and Konerko have contract extensions last June. Wow. I'd love to see Contreras back. Two years. Three years. The talent is there and if he is able to pitch the way he did the second-half of last year, he'll be considered amongst the league's elite in no time. The talent was always there. He's just now putting all the pieces together.

QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) Whoa, is that you? Drugs wear off from this mornings tirade? Yeah, yeah, yeah...finals week. Cut a guy some slack. Crisis averted.

Jon Garland isn't Tom Seaver. Aaron Rowand isn't Stan Musial. Right? I just want to make sure I haven't missed something.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Merill Hodge Yes!!!!!!!! Many thanks.
-
No, no...he's got a funky first name and he looks like a former football player. Argh! This is driving me crazy, c'mon, gang, almost there.
-
What's the name of the ESPN NFL commentator with the funny first name...the blonde guy?
-
I'm starting to notice a pretty bothersome trend, however. If some aren't careful, they are going to find themselves in the Billy Beane...er...I mean...Kenny Williams can not do any wrong camp. Once you find yourself in that camp, it's awfully hard to move away.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) If Williams was willing to give up Reed/Morse/Olivo for Garcia, midseason, in his contract year, there's no excuse for Garland netting us junk. I'd request a package similar to the Garcia deal, in the sense we'd be receiving one major league player and two prospects. If not LA, as you speculate, there has to be some team out there desperate for pitching yet not willing to commit a sizable contract. Isn't it about time for an organization to overpay for one of our players? Let's whore Garland for our advantage. It's obvious he's not going to be here, anyways. We are in complete agreement. That was perfect. I couldn't have said that any better. ...especially not the last two sentences.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) After paying huge prices (in terms of prospects) to get Thome and Vazquez, I'll be disappointed if KW doesn't get equal value for Garland. Garland should be a huge trade chip right now. I'm with you. As I've posted elswhere , this trade becomes much easier to stomach if you look big-picture. I think I was unable to see the forest through the trees. If Garland is not on the five-year board, and you have the opportunity to acquire someone with front-of-the-rotation stuff for under $8M in this market, you've done quite well--albeit at the loss of your finest prospect(s). What he'll be used for, I'm not quite sure. But, I'm hoping Kenny goes against this recent trend of under-valuing one's own players to net the exact player one wants. Garland SHOULD be looked at as one of the best players available...period...anything else and I think the organization made a mistake.

take a look back at last years trade deadline

QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:46 PM) good post addison... i know your not happy right now but hopefully the shock will wear off soon and youll be able to be chillin with a cold one and a smile. You and me both. To be perfectly honest with you, I think I was a little shell-shocked to see such a package headed out to the desert for a starting pitcher-albeit someone with "ace-stuff"--but, have since realized if Garland was simply not in the cards for 2006 and beyond, Kenny netted a front-of-the-rotation type pitcher for under $8M per year. That's pretty impressive. But, shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...don't tell Soxtalk I told you this. They're quite good when it comes to remembering. -
What would you like to see in return? I'm very interested as to what you all think. Spitballing: Kenny can go into the season with Garland and Vazquez on the staff, putting McCarthy in the pen and dangling Garland at the trade deadline, or trade him before ST. Does he re-stock on the prospects(doubtful, apparently they have been expendable as of late)? Does he find bullpen arms? Does he find another bat(CF)? I'm interested.

take a look back at last years trade deadline

QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) they didnt really ask for contreras, mccarthy, anderson, and marte did they? I heard many different things. At one point, Contreras OR McCarthy AND Marte looked like it was going to get the deal done. Then, it appeared Florida pulled him back and refused to move him. Now, I'm sitting here struggling over Kenny Williams will--or, better yet, should--trade Jon Garland before the season starts or take him into the season, putting McCarthy in the pen(which I'm not in favor for). Kenny has a pair, boy. Damn. In other news, his five-year board must be torn to s***. I can only imagine what it looks like now. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) Oh, so Don Cooper posts on this board? What if the White Sox trade Garland next year and McCarthy lays out a big fat egg? Are you still going to hold that stance? If Brandon McCarthy isn't a pitcher ready to take on a full season's worth of major league starts, I've never seen one that was. Thanks for posting Stark's opinion, fathom. Believe it or not, I appreciate what he has to say.
-
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) But trackrecords have proven that if you stick him in the pen for a year, they won't suck when they do start. It doesn't hinder their development. Nothing too bad comes out of it. There's no point in rushing McCarthy out there to take on a full season if we don't need him to, which right now is the case. That's my point. Stop right there. McCarthy is developed. He is ready now. There is no such rush.
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) It's kind of interesting, there are the exceptions. However, it seems the younger you are, the less you like this deal. I don't know what that means. Present company included, Sir Grease? Let's be fair, here.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:48 AM) El Duque was awful last season and was due to earn $4.5 million + incentives in 2006. It's shocking to me that we were able to dump him. Vizcaino was mediocre to bad with a 1.47 WHIP last season and could be easily replaced by a myriad of last arm in the bullpen options. Chris Young is the only player of good value that we lost. And I'm pretty sure that Dolgin is wrong about the $5 million. The online reports have Arizona sending us money in the deal. Well, that begs the question, will you be able to conjure up a most-witty nickname for Javier Vazquez? That name looks promising...

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) I dont think Addy was talking about not being a fan of the team, I think he was saying his confidence level in KW's moves. I like the pickup of another arm, but at what cost? Seriously I thought that Chris Young was as untouchable a prospect as we had. He was the Mike Cameron of 2007 to me. If this makes way for another trade, so be it, but at this point, I was happier with our team before the trade. Our bullpen depth is something that we need to look at, and there is not much available on the market right now. Clearly. Come, now. I suppose it just boils down to what you've said. I liked the team more yesterday than I do today. It's my opinion. That's all...my opinion folks. What the hell do I know? Go shovel some snow. There'll be baseball in April and I'll once again be oblivious to anything outside the realm of sports.
-
QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) Well Addy besides Jim you are clearly a person I respect on this board, but I think you should calm down. We are better today than yesterday as it pertains to this season. Viscaino was no prize and El dugue is 50 and broken. Young could be good or not. I don't miss Jeremy Reed at all. All you youngsters loved his ass. GET BETTER PLAYERS and win again I'll wait to pass and further judgement until Kenny's plan is finished in its entirety. I realize more is coming. This was just awful tough to stomach when I look at our CF situation of the future and the upper-tier free agent starting pitching available after the 2006 season. As for my "fandom," we all know I still adore my belov'ed White Sox. That's not changing. Kenny is far more the maverick than I had him pegged for. As always:
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:39 AM) Then I think the deal is pretty good. You're serious? In your opinion, Javier Vazquez is worth El Duque, the sixth starter of sorts, Vizcaino, a contributing member of the bullpen, Chris Young, on pace to be this teams staple in CF beginning as early as 2007, and $5M cash? I suppose the logical thing to do here would be wait until Kenny's plan is executed to its completion, but, knee-jerk reaction: just don't like it. Naturally, I'll still devote as much of my "fandom" to this club as ever before. We all know this.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) These 2 points are directly contradictory. If Jon Garland is on his way out, it doesn't screw up McCarthy in any way, shape, or form. Rather, it may in fact improve things for BMac, because Garland can still be turned into something valuable. I will say this though...and once again...if Brandon McCarthy is not in the starting rotation in April, I cannot be held responsible for my actions. Agree on that. Those are contradictory. I realize that. I suppose this means Garland--could it be someone else?--is heading out, making room for McCarthy. I'm just sitting here worried about organizational depth, the bullpen, and moving what appears to be the center-fielder of the future. I'm done on the matter, I've said my piece. Finals to study for.
