  1. QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 08:49 PM) Who said this? There is no way they're going to trade Marte and Sweeney for one year of Juan Pierre. No chance whatsoever. Marte straight up I can see. Marte plus a prospect of some sort for Pierre and something else. There are all kinds of ways to structure it. It all comes down to Ozzie Guillen wanting a new #2 hitter. He wants to move Iguchi down. Brian Anderson is not a #2 hitter. Owens? Maybe. Woa, woa, woa... Jim, are you telling me Ozzie has said he wants a new #2 hitter?
  2. New York is going to f***ing eat Farnsworth alive. This is going to be a joy to watch unfold. Look for Farnsworth to get bombed in one of his early outings, get destroyed by the New York media and Yankees fan-base, and in trade rumors before the All-Star break. Priceless Yankees signing right here.
  3. No. Frigging. Way. That's priceless. Just priceless. No, don't worry Kyle, the Yankee fans are much easier to deal with than those on the Northside of Chicago.
  4. Jim, do my eyes deceive me? Has someone decided to grace the rest of the World Champion fanbase with his presence? Welcome back amigo!
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) I am of the opinion Marte is better for the White Sox than Myers. I think Marte pitched well in the playoffs and can take that good feeling with him to spring training, and be as good as ever. I'm also of the opinion trading him won't get you a player better than Mueller or Nomar, so you would be better off keeping him and signing one of those two. Fair enough. I absolutely understand and respect that angle. Personally, I not only think Marte will be unable to re-gain his 2003 form, I believe he may have rubbed too many people the wrong way inside the organization--namely, the annointed King of the White Sox clubhouse--and sealed his own fate. However, one thing I would suggest keeping in mind is that this may be a matter of, "He has to go," for reasons outside the realm of baseball. Unfortunately, I am nowhere near close enough to the situation to comment on that, simply conjecturing. But, if you ask me, I think Damaso's value for this club now rests in his abilty to land something of substantial value on the trade market, despite his one foot already being outside the door. *Thome leaving Philladelphia was bascially a 'must' move for the Phillies and that certainly didn't prevent them from landing something of great value via trade*
  6. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) Marte is better than Myers. Academic at this point. Ozzie and Marte can't co-exist next year for a full season. One could not but help get the impression Ozzie--despite using Marte--didn't even want him back last season after that little stunt he pulled-whether or not Ozzie fueled the flames or not is beside the point. Yes, it would appear Marte is better than Myers. Is Marte better than Myers on THIS team? Marte's value now comes in his trade-value. We've all said he won't be a part of the 2006 roster. This rumor simply re-assures that line of thinking.
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Ouch, Milton Bradley with Dusty Baker as his manager? Bradley is a wild man, and Dusty lets his players do what they want then stick up for them in the media, that could be very interesting. Words. Out of. Mouth. That could provide a summer's worth of entertainment in and of itself. ...also would be a pretty good Dodgers trade to boot. Patterson may epitomize the "change of scenary" type and could blow up in a place like LA. Rooting for this one.
  8. Give it up for Soxtalk! We were all over this one weeks ago. I've been researching Myers moreso than any other player this off-season. Since we came up with this "crazy plan," I swear I must have checked, re-checked, and checked his stats about a hundred times. I'm all in favor of the move. Bring the Arlington Heights boy home and use him nearly exclusively against lefties. Before I go any further, let's all give Neal Cotts a big round of applause for making this all possible. Without his emergence last year at this team's premier left arm out of the bullpen, Kenny would not make possible the trade of a lefty with GREAT stuff and met potential that simply shot himself in the foot and bought his own ticket out of town. The signing of Mike Myers--who, for those of you that aren't aware, is a 3/4s-submarine pitcher...very entertaining to watch--makes possible the trade of Marte, someone who clearly isn't one of "Ozzie's boys" and seemed to talk himself right out the clubhouse door. I'm all for this one. All in. Marte still has tremendous trade value--yup, tremendous...these sorts of left-handers don't grow on trees, despite his recent struggles spanning nearly one and a half seasons--and should net quite a lot in return. Just throwing out this one: Seeing as I'm not one for Pierre on this team, how about a Marte trade for some primere left-handed minor-league talent to help replace the gaping hole left by the departure of Haigwood and Gonzalez? Although I'd love to see some kind of MLB talent netted with his departure, it simply might not be in the cards. Does he have MLB value? Absolutely. Would it be as high as the value he could net if traded for minor leaguers? /Myers mugshot avatar
  9. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) If anyone wants to see where our fortunes turned, it was me going back to this rock raines sig. ...and who made you that timeless classic?
  10. If there is any base to those offers, I think the White Sox can certainly hold their own when it comes to ponying-up for Paulie. I've gone on record saying I would hand PK a 5 Year, $65M deal today. You never really know with JR. After Paulie brought his club a World Championship after 88 years and the little last-out ball gesture at the parade, he may be willing to give Paulie the contract and bring the face of the franchise--outside Ozzie Guillen--back. It may just come down to if Paulie sees himself living in the midwest and playing for the White Sox for what seems to be the latter-part of his career. If Paulie wants to be a Sox, and the organization is able to give him the deal he is looking for, he'll be back. Come back, Paulie. You're certainly Plan A and I don't even want to think about what types of moves would be made during the executions of Plan B, C, D, etc. Gotta have you back.
  11. As a player? Oh, no, no, no. Let's think manager in, say, twenty years or so.
  12. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 04:08 PM) Go back and read your posts in the Thome trade thread. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Perfect. Let's pull those up shall we. Pot meet Kettle.
  13. You know, despite these signings and the Delgado move and such, I still don't look at Omar and call him one of the better general managers in baseball. With tons of money to work with in a situation where your team hasn't really developed any expectations, these moves don't scream "great baseball moves" at me. I dunno.
  14. To be honest, this signing blows me away. As I've said in Trade Winds, Loaiza seems to represent the polar-opposite direction the A's seem to be heading. I think it's safe to say his better years are behind him, he's making a substanial amount of money via this free agency signing, and he's up there in age. I can't quite wrap my head around this one...maybe things will start to surface and this will make a little more sense.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:54 PM) welcome to the chicago cubs part two. Hard to have 2 SERIOUS injury risks in the same lineup. You got it, Rock...not crazy about the idea. Nomar is going to be a calculated risk for some club next year and that is fine. But, I don't think that club should be the Chicago White Sox. The Sox have just a bit more on the line to lose this year coming off a World Championship and I don't think this is the time to start gambling on former sluggers. Again, if you are able to get Garciaparra for a song it might be a bit more tolerable. But, I just don't like the idea. Not a chance he comes close to putting up Konerko's 2005 numbers...luckily, I think Kenny Williams realizes this. I have all the confidence in the world in Williams, he is a first-rate GM.
  16. If Thome is considered a calculated risk, Garciaparra has to be considered one as well. You'd be looking at healh-risk, former sluggers in both the three and four spots? Hmmmmmm... Let's just make sure Plan B is leagues away from Plan A. Paulie needs to be the priority, no question.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:44 PM) Wow. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense from my perspective. Loaiza seems to represent the polar-opposite direction the A's franchise seems to be heading--older, best years far behind him, commands a pretty resonable contract on the open market. /scratching head
  18. Just got some updates via Roto ya'll: Blue Jays signed LHP B.J. Ryan, who had been with the Orioles, to a five-year, $47 million contract. Mariano Rivera's annual salary is higher, but this is the largest sum ever committed to a reliever. According to The Globe and Mail, Ryan gets a $10 million signing bonus spread over two years ($6 million in 2006, $4 million in 2007). He'll receive annual salaries of $2 million next year, $5 million in 2007 and $10 million each of the following three years. Nov. 28 - 2:16 pm et he A's are close to signing free agent Esteban Loaiza to a three-year contract for slightly more than $21 million, FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports. Perhaps increasing the chances of a Barry Zito deal. Loaiza would join a rotation that includes Zito, Rich Harden, Danny Haren and Joe Blanton, leaving no room for Kirk Saarloos or Joe Kennedy. One of the two lefties almost certainly would go. Loaiza's mediocre numbers outside of RFK Stadium last season give us pause, but compared to what some of the other free-agent starters could get, $7 million per year might not be so bad. At least he's a good bet to stay healthy. Nov. 28 - 1:19 pm et
  19. Congrats CC! I just found out Saturday that one of my God-kids will have a little brother or sister in the near future. It's a lot of fun! Congrats and good luck
  20. Very positive experience. He said all the right things and his enthusiasm looks geniune...ear-to-ear grin throughout and looked awfully good in black pinstripes. He's coming home, playing for what has to be one of the funniest and most respected managers in baseball, and has the opportunity to mesh with a very tight-knit, relaxed clubhouse. How could you not be pumped? Again, welcome aboard Big Guy!
  21. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) WTF Bears Post Game. Crisis Averted. Here we go.
  22. All systems go. Both Comcast and the whitesox.com stream are functioning properly and the conference will start in about 2 minutes.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Would it be possible for anyone to record it and post a video here? My guess is it will be posted in its entirety on Whitesox.com. You'll probably see the media link on the page shortly after the conference. And, if I'm not mistaken, MLB.com offers some live coverage of it.
  24. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 28, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Will this be televised at all? Comcast Sports Net Chicago Cable channel 37 in the city.
