Anybody admitting to listening to Journey???
AddisonStSox replied to Kid Gleason's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 12:05 PM) Then I was in a fraternity brother's room when "Smells Like Teen Spirit" came on the radio. That was the end of classic rock for me. It certainly marked the end for Arena rock. Just ask C.C. Deville. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) Yes, it was actually in or near the parking lot for Hawkeye's, the lot is (or was) about a block south of Taylor Street. Hawkeye's is a good place for just about any sporting event, especially if you're aged 21 to about 30 or so. Is that the lot across from that...um...very interesting gated living? -

Hrmph. I do wonder if enough dough was thrown at Perry he would consider reuniting with Schon and co. for a tour. I have to think if the price was right he would actually do it. There was some undeniably great talent in that group. Perry had to be considered one of the stronger vocalists from that era--up there with Mercury and co. I would guess. Aynsley Dubar was a very talented drummer and Neal Schon was in Santana at the age of 17 for crissakes. Um... -

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) Ummmm, the reality version of Rockstar is called Judas Priest, which is what the movie was based on. Originally, I think it was actually going to be a documentary of sorts on Priest, but Halford and company nixed it. I may be wrong. -

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) IIRC, sometime in the mid 90's Steve Perry went solo and the group replaced him with a guy that looked and sounded almost exactly like him. Actually, he looks exactly like Kenny G. Maybe, Kenny G meets Scott Stapp. But, you're right. He sounds a lot like Perry. -

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) He won't play with Journey for sure, but he still has contacts, and as was pointed out earlier here, there are TONS of cover/tribute bands out there to help. Not so sure as to how much of a "shut-in" he has become, as much as a seriously pissed off guy. Yeah, I suppose you're right. He's just shyed away from the public after getting shafted as bad as he did. Shut-in may be going a bit far. There is some SERIOUS bad blood though between him and his fellow bandmates though...it leaks out in interviews in a serious way. But, you have to admit the guy went up to his home in the hills of SF and hasn't been seen much since. -

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 11:25 AM) Ya know, people were saying they should have played at some point during the series. But I have a crisp $10 to bet that if the Sox win it all, we will see Perry perform at the celebration. My mom and I were discussing the same thing. From a pure carrer perspective, preforming the national anthem could have been huge for Perry. What better way to get yourself back in the game than signing in front of millions upon millions of viewers in a national auidence. But, we were quick to remember Perry's post-breakup shut-in ways and quasi-hatred for the other members of Journey. ...just don't see it happening. Frankly, I was shocked to see him come out to Chicago for the WS, period. -
Here's what we do. Put all those who have either started a) a thread bashing the national media for not respecting their belov'ed Sox or b ) those who have created this exact thread time and time again on a boat, send it across Lake Michigan, and sink it halfway.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 10:38 AM) IIRC.. MLB gets the coin and distributes it evenly to all the teams. Everything licensed by MLB is done this way I believe. Revenue sharing? To this degree? Holy smokes. ...and then people wonder by Pinella exploded on TB upper-management for not opening up their pocketbook.
-
After talking with one of the cashiers at the main store in the upper-deck, for the first time, I was able to put how much revenue is derived from a playoff appearence. Now, I'm sure a season-ticket holder or someone like that may be able to expand on these numbers, but, after the customer in front of me spent $400 on assorted Sox swag, he told me the larger concourse stores like his and the one found behind home plat on the lower level, have made $90,000 per game, while the smaller stores have made upwards of $50,000 per game. Ex-squeeze me!? Now, add to that all the swag sold around Chicagoland, Whitesox.com, etc. and you really start to get a sense of how much coin these Sox are creating. I can only imagine what the bottom-line looks like after adding all these merch sales, ticket sales, advertisments, etc. together. CHA-FREAKING-CHING

Not bad for a guy that wanted to hang it up.

Born and raised on Journey in my household. Mother = huge Steve Perry fan. I've been known to rock out the Journey every now and again. The current Pseudo-Journey frontman is a frigging riot though. -
I tacked my lanyard and ticket on my wall. How could anyone part with something like that? I suppose those who went purely as baseball fans with no attachment either way may not value the ticket as much as say, either a Sox or Astros fan. But, that game was epic. I mean, that had to be the single greatest sporting expierence for anyone in attendance--this side of a championship clinch or something to that end. Mine ain't going anywhere. Treasured keepsake type stuff.

Sox @ Houston - World Series Game 3
AddisonStSox replied to Heads22's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I can't even begin to put last night's live expierence into words. It was the most mind-blowing, electric sporting event I have ever witnessed bar none. Nearly 24 hours later and the mere thought of last night brings a tear to my eye. So. Damn. Proud/Happy. -

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) Dude, that's awesome. I actually drafted him this year in the soxtalk league. An SG from my high school (Gordon Tech) was signed by the Supersonics, but he never actually played in an NBA game. Tommy Kleinschmidt...have you ever heard of him? He graduated from HS when I graduated from 8th grade & he went on to become a star at DePaul. He was playing in the Japanese League last I heard. Kleinschmidt's a legend around these parts. If it's who I'm thinking of there is a Shabonna Park league either named after him, or, in honor of him or something. I don't know. There are a lot of good ole' Chicago names around here. I might be confused. -
Thanks, fellas. And Bozley, if you are making it out, drop me a PM. Can't wait, gang.

Just got the word from New York. Company tickets are being over-nighted. Me and my father sharing a White Sox World Series game together on the Southside of Chicago. Unreal. This still hasn't sunk in yet. Soxtalk Roll Call For Game Two:

Comiskey Park security bubble to be in place
AddisonStSox replied to WinningUgly85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I just got a rise out of seeing Comiskey Park in the subject line. Put a smile on my face. Don't know why. Very Chicago of us. -
Anyone else think we are going to tag the Rocket for 3 or more? As dominant as he is, I think Paulie, Crede, and co. are peaking at the right time and might send one of those 95mph four-seamers on the Dan Ryan. Feel real good about our chances v. Clemens and Pettitte...Oswalt, not so much.
-
You know what I hope: one day posters will stop making thread, after thread, after thread, after thread on how the Sox deserve more of the national spotlight, Chicago fandom, attendance, respect, etc. Yeah, that would be greattttttttttttt.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) You know i really liked the show US version of "Men Behaving Badly" in the first season when Rob Schneider, Ron Eldard and Justine Bateman were the stars. Ron Eldard left the show, and then it just fell off the face of the network. But I thought the first season was great. Rob Schneider....ha. I really had that guy pegged for success after the SNL run. I was wronggggggggggg.
