  1. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Holy f***. This better be a typo, or he STILL is charging $40 for this CD. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?sk...ab=4&id=1445019 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-h...0033109-7968643 http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-h...0033109-7968643
  2. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 01:23 PM) Simple way of fixning many of the problems is lower the price, and put out a better product. I bought the Jet release "Get Born", dumped about $16 of the thing, and open it to find no real insert, just a crappy picture. Where are the lyrics? That happened about 4 times in a row. I will buy a band I am familiar with and that I know I will be happy with. But days of "taking chances" are gone now. When I find a band I really like, I support them the best way I can, I buy merch from them. If I go see a band, I buy a shirt and other items there. I know they get that money, and not the company. I try to support the Indie labels, and I detest buying from the majors. I have had my material bootlegged and sold without my knowledge, but I still prefer to give my stuff away. I'll never get rich on it, I'll never be able to pay any bills with it, so if giving it away means getting it to more people, then I am 100% cool with that. The thought was, by making one or two songs of an album available on the internet, customers/music fans would be more inclined to buy the cd found in stores. However, recent findings have shown this is not the case. The new generation of music fans no longer care to have an actual jewel case complete with artwork, lyrics, the whole bit...let alone pay upwards of $10 for it!? So, a logical solution, make the songs this new breed of music enthusiast desire available via download at a set price per song. That still wasn't good enough. Not only do we want our music, we want it for free. Where do we go from here? How can I "support" my favorite artist, while illegally downloading his or her music, giving absolutely nothing? EDIT: I do like Trent Reznor's recent take on this. "With Teeth" is an absolutely empty jewel case--well, actually it's on cardboard. It's only content? The cd. He says, why go ahead and produce colorful artwork, lyrics, etc. when this cd is going to get put on a computer, tossed on a playlist, or downloaded via the internet?
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) I think there has to be a better, more tailored, distribution. When the record companies are cut out, and the band distributes to the consumer, $.25 becomes a reality per song. And they make more, and have more control. Attempt to find a bank willing to give a loan to musicians to fund the recording, promotion, and distribution of a full-length...it doesn't exist. As long as music is being created and distributed on a national, or international basis, labels will be present. Gone are the days of the wandering minstrel. Many musicians create music to make a profit and earn a living--whether this makes for a better product or not is up for a different debate. Music labels are a means to an end. As long as musicians seek to earn a living--or, if they are the sentimental type and simply desire to distribute their work as some piece of communal art, belonging to the "people"--the role the label plays will be a crucial one.
  4. Though there is much debate surrounding the mere term or usage of the term, "music piracy," that is the term in this thread used to describe the unlawful, unauthorized use of copyrighted material in a way that violates the exclusive rights of the aforementioned copyrighted material's owner. Disclaimer: As I'm sure those who have been a part of Soxtalk much longer than I can attest to, threads of this nature, and in this very forum, have a history of being derailed fairly quickly (present company included). So, just a humble request to stay on task as I've seen some absolutely amazing threads on this board where some very productive and good-natured debate takes place. I know we've talked about making this thread for awhile, so, here it is. There are a bunch of folks from a bunch of different music entertainment arenas on this very board--including the owner of a label--and this oughta be a fun one. So, who wants to start us off? Thoughts? Rants? Raves? Complaints? Touch gloves.

  6. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) FOCKING BASTAGE KW WHAT THE FOCK??? VINNY CASTILLA IS BETTER THAN FOCKING CREDE FOCK ^^^^^^^^^^^^ ...actually had me laughing out loud.
  7. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) Is anyone besides me really curious why Will Carroll said that this was a name we would care about? Baseball outside of New York? Shaaaaaaaaaaa. When monkeys fly outta my butt. Of course America cares!!! It's a member of the New York Yankees, Dummy.
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) Chazwozzers? at's a funi name!
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 07:56 PM) Having a baby. AWESOME!!!! Congrats, Big Fella!!! Remember...that kid shouldn't know it has a right hand until its fifth birthday.

  11. GROUNDBREAKING, EARTH-SHATTERING NEWS :sleep :sleep :sleep
  12. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Nov 3, 2005 -> 04:12 PM) Mench was my fantasy sleeper at the beginning of last year! He'd be a reliable option I think but not the type of player we're all looking for if Konerko leaves. Yours truly mentioned Kevin Mench about 10 pages ago. PERFECT for a platoon DH role with the newly re-signed and still-aging Frank Thomas. IMHO, could be had for a combination of MLB-ready or near-MLB-ready pitching prospects and Mr. Marte. /MenchSoxMugshot
  13. Um... Can they call him an AL Playoff outfielder if he was left off the playoff roster? Damn. Sex sells.
  14. How long until photoshopped-mughshot-avatar season? We just won the World Series, gang. Sit back, relax, and strap it down for a month or so.
  15. Hands down: Paul Konerko's firstball-fastball grandslam in game two of the World Series. I was in attendance for that one and I honestly thought the place was going to go down. I've never, ever, ever been apart of such an electric sporting moment in my entire life. It was one of those things I'll never forget for the rest of my life. It was pure elation. Also, the Konerko slam trumped Podsednik's walk-off. It was not even close.
  16. Please, Tony, keep us abreast of this situation. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has considered sending Brooks an email on the exact same topic. Thanks.
  17. QUOTE(rangercal @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 12:34 PM) Thats what I'm worried about.... Teams with lots of money to spend after the only Great 1b on the market. The dodgers and mets are also known to OVERPAY. I.e Dreifort , Glavine That is a spot-on concern. Also, it is worth noting the Angles are head-over-heels in love with Paul Konerko. No joke. This will be a very interesting entity to watch pan out. Who knows, maybe somewhere amongst this "Pay Me" era we live in, some hometown discounts and levels of hometown favortism, satisfaction will play a roll. This is Paulie's chance to cash in and secure his family's wellbeing for the rest of their lives. You really can't fault the guy for that.
  18. QUOTE(rangercal @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I think PK may get more than 14 mil. Why? Supply and demand. Especially since the demand for a 1b is from teams like the sawx, Yankees and angels. I really don't want to get into this discussion too much at this point. But Steinbrenner has gone on record as saying the Yankees will devote more time, money, and effort into Derek Lee after the 2006 season than any other 1B or free agent on the market. Look for Lee to be considered the Yankees staple at 1B. I think you're looking at the Red Sox, Angels, and maybe even a team like the Mets/Dodgers (doubtful) in the hunt for Mr. Konerko.
  19. Rather than start a new thread, I just want to post three names I think the Sox ought to, or perhaps, will look at. Listed in order of assumed probability: Kevin Mench Austin Kearns Adam Dunn Now, of course, I want to see Paulie signed through whatever means necessary. These three names are names that can either a) assume full-time DH esponsibilities, or b ) platoon DH esponsibilities with the newly re-signed Frank Thomas. Thoughts on this, Cheat and co.?
  20. Thoughout the course of the playoffs, I just kept telling my buddies, "I can't imagine trying to hit a Neal Cotts fastball." If you've watched him pitch regularly, it's pretty easy to tell he has one of the sneakiest fastballs in the league. Hands down. When on, and coming in at that angle, that frickin' thing can be untouchable.
  21. Having been raised on Letterman, I was suprised to see Conan fans vote Leno. My thinking was if you "get" Letterman, you are more likely to be a Conan fan seeing as their styles of comedy are more similar than, say, Leno. At least, that's what I always thought. These polls are always good for some yucks.
  22. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Hideki Matsui: 3-Year worth 21M- will make in 6M in 2003, 7M in 2004 and 8M in 2005- + he can earn 500K each year in bonuses- + has a complete NO-TRADE clause- + if he does not sign a contract extension or a new contract by Nov. 15, 2005, then the NYY must place him on waivers for the purpose of granting him his release- + if he were to clear waivers he would become a free agent Agent: Arn Tellem/John Kim Service Time: 2.000 MLB4U CLAP CLAP CLAP-CLAP-CLAP
  23. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 04:27 PM) Hideki would be a HUUUUGE pickup. The sort of thing that would automatically lead to me getting season tickets if I had that kind of money. But we'd have to outbid the Yankees. Good luck with that, though if we ditch Konerko maybe Jerry will pay up. I'm hoping Hideki's choke job in the playoff lowers his value. Do a little research on Matsui's contract. It has some very bizzare clauses and such that, if I'm not mistaken, prevent him from becoming a free agent in the truest sense of the term.
  24. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) We had a rally Perry already. In 2000. For what it's worth, I laughed at the Rally Perry.
