Alright, let me just preface this by saying I am of sound body and mind. No outside, smokey, collegiate factors led to the creation of this thread. Does anyone else have some profession they would have loved to pursue as a guilty pleasure of sorts? For instance, instead of going off to college does anyone wish they just stayed home and opened a deli or something to that end? I don't know. For me, I would have loved to open a fish market. Yeah, a fish market. Maybe after I fail the bar repeatedly, I'll actually be able to do just that. Ok, quickly, someone tell me I'm not the only one thinking of this crap.

They should pull that ump.. Because....

Ain't happening. Sorry. Not even a possibility. Do you know the firestorm MLB would create if they did something as brash and foolish as that? Nah uh. -
QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 11:53 AM) Great question. Just like the first baseman has to catch the ball on a force and touch the base, the play is completed when the ball is secured by the other team. The "out play" is a thrown between the pitcher and catcher. I forget about what happens when a runner is at first. Doesn't 1st have to be open? First base has to be open unless there is two outs. If there is two outs, the batter-runner gets the opportunity to advance to first regardless.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Oct 13, 2005 -> 11:40 AM) Go back, this may be the best soxtalk discussion ever. Great points on bot sides. Thanks, Tex, I'm going to go ahead and take a look. I really have to give it to the guys. There have been some fantastic baseball discussions going since we reached the playoffs. I have to be honest, I was expecting the polar opposite. Hats off, Soxtalk. It really is threads like this that make me appreciate this place.

You make a great point. However, I'm still going to maintain Sciocia's biggest mistake was belaboring the call with the officiating crew as long as he did. Escobar was really in a groove, his team was playing on their toes, and he took the wind right out of their sails with the lengthy objection. I'm not saying he shouldn't have argued the call--in fact, he would have been wrong NOT to--however, I really, truly think he may have hurt his ballclub more than helping them by staying out there for as long as he did. He would have been much better getting the guys together, giving his pitcher a pat on the rear-end and clapping his hands while walking back to the dugout. I mean, you really felt he knew his team was going to fail in that inning. It was a sign of things to come both figuretively and literally.

How the umps will call the rest of the games
AddisonStSox replied to Texsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I haven't been around much the past day or so, but, has any argued Scioscia's long, belabored objection to the umpire crew may have hurt his ballclub. Escobar, or whoever that was, was rolling at that point. I'm not faulting his questioning the call...you have to do that...but, I think he would have been much better off clapping his hands, giving his pitcher a pat on the ass and troting back to the dugout. By staying out there and making a federal case of it, he almost set his Angels up for failure in that inning. Am I alone on this? I don't know. I don't get the opportunity to get much sports talk radio down here. -
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Just to shed some light on this from an experienced plate umpire. Regardless of whether or not the ball hit the ground, the umpire ruled 'out.' An arm extended means strike 3, the fist means 'batter is out'. Once he does this, he CANNOT ask for help at all. He's out, regardless of whether the ball hit the dirt or whatever any other umpire says. I'll take it. Sox win. But this is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. I didn't even want to come on Soxtalk after last night's "win." But, you nailed it. I'm a patched umpire as well and as soon as the home plate umpire punched him "out" with the fist, the play should have been over. He needed to yell at Pierzynski to stop running down the line and call him back. Bad call. Yet, the Sox go to Cali. with a series tie. If the Sox can go out there and beat the Angels straight up with some timely offense and this great starting pitching, no one will look at this as the turning point of the series. The Sox control their own destiny in regards to this call and what the rest of the series will hold. I also want to add if Paul tagged Pierzynski on the ass after the pitch--like he should have and like he was taught since little league--this would never have happened. AJ gets out there and makes the difference with the decision to run down the basepath. Hats off to AJ as well.

National Anthem and Starting Introduction
AddisonStSox replied to SouthSidePride05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just for tonight, those at USCF should adopt the Blackhawk Anthem introduction. That would really f*** up Fox's hopeful cuddily east coast viewing audience. Welcome to the Southside. Let it chew you up and spit you out. -
Los Angeles @ Chicago - ALCS Game 1
AddisonStSox replied to Heads22's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I just want to say this has to be the biggest moment in my White Sox fandom. This is the sort of thing you live for when you have put sooooooo much time, money, and effort into your ballclub. I'm counting down the hours. White Sox in the ALCS...................YES! -
You know what, I'm just so stoked we are talking about potential ALCS matchups I don't care if we face the Kansas City Chiefs. This is just unreal. I can't wait for tomorrow's game. Go Yanks, or Go Angels, or whoever.

Any list with Herbert Perry on it is far from weak.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 06:15 PM) Hahaha - I was gonna, but then I thought...nah not worth it Have at it Damnit!!!! I have hw, Mike! For now, I'll just say Angelo and company have made their living in the middle rounds. Rather than bore you with some of my notebook findings, I'll just say: for the most part, that statement is pretty inaccurate. If you can find a team that has produced as many serviceable NFL players week-in and week-out via the mid rounds...from, say, the past 4-6 seasons. Well, I can't eat my hat. But, I'll eat something. More to come...eh...maybe -

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 04:24 PM) The Bears are horrible when it comes to evaluating talent and drafting players. Is that right? -
There's a real easy way to get over those mis-information(s). Just take anything Berman says and throw it out the window. Done. That's really one of my only criticisms of ESPN. They take a guy like Berman that hasn't watched one game of NHL hockey and than have him announce the Stanley Cup. It's just a bit irritating and kind of a slap in the face to those that have been watching and putting their own time and effort into their team over the course of a season.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) That's just it. Everybody has an opinion, and none of them amount to a hill of beans unless your name is Ozzie Guillen, Kenny Williams or Don Cooper. Dag nabit! Where were you and your voice of reason 20 minutes ago Yas? I really could have used that.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) I look at it 100% differently. What, are you a mem ber of the White Sox? Having a 35 jersey, or 56 just tells everyone who your favorite player is, or that you appreciate the work that player has put in. That's adorable. Listen to Dan McNeil's take on this. It's perfect.

QUOTE(CYGarland @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) I think we can all agree Viz and Marte don't get the job done, but IMO Viz get's it done less. I just want to know why McCarthy was left of the roster in favor of Viz??????? :banghead :headshake Sorry, pal, you're in the wrong thread. I have yet to get that question answered.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 02:53 PM) So you are now using some sort of clubhouse reason we can't see, as opposed to using a statistical basis. This keeps getting better. :banghead What was Los' quote? Aruging on an internet message board is like racing in the special olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded. I'm out. Have a nice day fellas. I'm looking forward to Tuesday when we can just sit back and watch our White Sox play in the ALCS for the first time in many of our lifetimes. Enjoy your Sunday.
