Neither Sox or Astors get any Love
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(WISOX @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 05:15 PM) I was listening to some mouth on espn radio today who was talking about how foxsports said that the WS ratings are down because it's not the yankoffs & deadsox. What do thay expect when 8 out of every 10 games they both show are those two? I hope we sweep so we don't have to listen to joe schmuck & mc blabber. I can't wait to hear all the whining about how we won on bad calls & luck. Thats a good point. They helped create this dilemma by not creating new stars (teams). They are very shortsighted, as tv networks in general are, and it costs them in situations like these. -
They have no right to b****. Its a f***in rule. Don't like it? Change the rule. The D-Backs had to deal with it and they didn't let that become a hindrance. As a side, baseball is an outdoor game weather permitting and weather permits tonight. Its bad enough they get away with having a friggin hill in center and now they want to claim they are losing home field advantage.

Pitch count is everything tonight. His fastball is the game's most conistently hard out of a starter and he might be the guy a Gm would build his staff around if he could pick anyone. I think the big factor pitch wise is fastball location. We got pull-hitters like Dye, Konerko, and Crede. They will likely try to turn and burn to short left. If the fastball gets in enough, they won't do anything but break their bats and we won't score many. If he isn't able to get it in as much as he did against the Lou, we have a shot. Will Wheeler and DJ Qualls come in before the 8th? I hope so.

Yeah the Dempster signing didn't get much play so its not a big miss on your part. I was kind of surprised that he got so much. I think that only will help guys like Joe Table and BJ Ryan in the market as Mesa is semi-similar (older of course) and Ryan is better.

I never knew a Nielsen family either but I study this stuff and its pretty accurate. Pretty amazing actually. The flaws come more with children's programming, but Wes Mantooth probably already told you that! Isn't it amazing how much of a mainstream story the ratings are each year. Rob Neyer hit the nail on the head. Unless you are in the mlb higher office or with Fox-who gives a s***? -
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) Why pay # 10 mil. a year for an old closer. A team can pick a young one up that throws 100 mp with a wicked curve for nothing ? haha. good point. I don't worry a whole lot about Wagner blwoing his arm out like Gagne or someone. He hasn't really had those issues and he's been around the block. His issues have been more along the lines of cranky groin muscles and whatnot. Wagner is kind of a diva but I think he would handle New York. Philly didn't hurt his performance. Can you say the same about BJ Ryan? I don't know. Younger guy, great stuff but you never know if a guy will be the next New York meltdown
-
I'm not sure that what teams will pay for Billy Wagner is really overpaying. Maybe the years scare you but he was as good as anyone this year. His numbers weren't that far off from Mo's. The Mets have such a short window with Floyd, Glavine, Pedro getting on in years that I think they need to go for it all now

Is WS MVP all inclusive or just for the series? I know that sounds dumb as I'm sure its just for the series but I thought I saw Glaus' entire postseason stats listed when he got hte award

Anybody admitting to listening to Journey???
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Kid Gleason's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I bought the greatest hits two summers ago and listen to it often. I can't even use the Sox as an excuse. Only the Young is my fav -
Call me old-fashioned but I always thought that the point of retractable roofs was to fight against inclimate weather such as rain or extreme heat. If neither of those factors are present, it should be opened. Here is the tricky part: One the one hand if Arizona had to have theirs open Houston should. The flip side is that it seems kind of odd that Atlanta and St. Louis should have to play the Astros in the playoffs indoor and us outdoors. I think they need to make it more consistent. MLB should decide for the whole playoffs.

Burke is an infielder playign the outfield. I think that is important to note. In addition, I hope Garner puts Burke in center again. Difficult park to be out of place in center. It might not burn you if you do it once or twice but I htink it might hurt them over the next three games. I'd stick with Tavares in Center. Its too important of a position to treat for offense only.

We live in f***ing CHicago. Quit acting like we are the doormat of the world. This is the third largest market in the US. How do you think people in Minnesota or Cleveland feel about media coverage. You guys b**** and moan about East Coast Bias but neglect to realize that Chicago gets a lot of national coverage in sports. A lot of you guys are as annoying as Red Sox and Cubs fans. We go up 2-0 in a World Series and all you can do is nitpick and piss and moan about s*** that doesn't even matter. Its downright sad.

Damn Jeff Brantley isn't even TRYING

For the record, Joe Morgan loves the Sox. We bunt, steal, and play smallball. Didn't you listen to him do the Sox games this year? We are like his dream team, the anti-moneyball! -
You could sense that Baggy was getting his timing. On the other hand, I udnerstand not wanting to speed his bat up. He got beat with his fastball. I can live with that

Sox @ Houston - World Series Game 3
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Heads22's topic in 2005 Season in Review
Oswalt will be tough, he knows how to pitch there. He has the hardest average fastball in the NL. His curve is just plain wicked too. It's like facing Franbkie Rodriguez for 8 innings when he is out there. I think that you play for one run the whole time against him and bunt/steal/h'n'r etc. -
I'm not saying he should be the closer, actually I think he never should have lost the job, but we better see Dustin Hermanson in a damn game soon.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 23, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) You guys complain about every single announcer, analyst, etc. that doesn't bleed White Sox baseball. I hate Joe Buck and Tim McCarver more than anything, and I think Harold Reynolds is a joke aswell, but this is the time of your lives, live it up for christs sake. I agree. This is pathetic.
-
I think it was McCarver who said there was no taste in Lidge's mouth. Buck just asked it

Sox @ Houston - World Series Game 3
Punch and Judy Garland replied to Heads22's topic in 2005 Season in Review
I think the offday hurts the Astros as much because Lidge has 48 more hours to think about it. Three games is tough in that park which was one of the biggest home field advantages in baseball so I will definitely be happy with one win there. Game 3 is gonna be huge with that pitching matchup. -
AND THATS A WHITE SOX WORLD SERIES WINNER!!!!!!
Punch and Judy Garland replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would have bet that there was a decent chance Jenks and Lidge wouldn't give up a run between them all series. Then they boyh go out and give it up. Amazing -
Brad Lidge officially has Mitch WIlliams/BK Kim syndrome. Great rip by Pods. I guess all of us saying that he is the guy we least want up in an rbi spot were served a bit here. Heart-wrenching game, glad we won it!

Gold lettering? I think the 03 ball was the same

Have you guys seen a world series baseball yet? I am curious to see what colors they used this year and whatnot.
