QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Or just wait 6 months and the price will be down $100... I won't go down $100 in price til at least after a year it's release, depending on when the PS3 is released.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) I'd rather keep Ozuna as our utility infielder for next to nothing than pay Graffanino a lot more money. Also, we have absolutely no need for Paul Byrd. Correct and correct.

QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) PTI is the only thing I watch on ESPN. Me too. Even though I know this would never happen, Comcast should try to buy the programming rights to PTI. Kornheiser and Wilbon are the only good thing to watch on ESPN nowadays. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) I wouldn't say it's so cut and dry that he won't trade one of the 5 starters. I know that many disagree with me on this point, but I think there's a chance that KW will trade either Contreras, Garcia, or Garland this offseason if the offer is something he can't refuse. It's HIGHLY unlikely the Sox would be able to afford both Garland and Contreras after this upcoming season. Their value will likely never be higher, so I don't think KW should just say no chance in hell. Everyone here knows that I would be willing to trade Contreras for a marquee hitter like Dunn or Teixeira. You and Kenny are two different people. I doubt he trades any of our pitching unless it's Garland for Delgado straight up and they pay all of Delgado's contract along with Garland's.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) There are going to be a ton of teams in the Delgado sweepstakes if he's available at such a cheap price. Teams like the Dodgers, Orioles, Red Sox, etc. will definitely be interested. Hell, are we even sure he wants to play in Chicago? I know he turned down the Sox last year (even though I know things have changed). I guess all this debate is what we deserve arguing about something that Mr. Zero, Bruce Levine, said. There's going to be tons of teams inquiring about him, but there aren't many teams willing to take on his contract. I don't see Boston taking on his contract unless they are able to trade Manny. I also don't think Boston wants to give up top prospects. I think they rather look at SP. Dodgers desperately need to get pitching. They're in no position to trade for Delgado. They also don't have much to give up in terms of prospects. Orioles? They want pitching too. I don't think they're willing to spend cash on upgrading their offense considering it was pretty good last year. He turned down the Sox because he knew he was going to be a FA so he didn't want to bother moving to a city, just so he could move 5 months later to another one. He didn't want to go through the process.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Did I miss Patterson sign a new contract? Last I heard, he's still a financially cheap option. If the Marlins do trade Delgado, they're definitely going to try and get a MLB caliber starting pitcher in the deal. You missed that the Marlins aren't trying to take on extra contracts. They have no need for Patterson which is why he wouldn't be included in a deal unless you're talking about Eric Patterson who would be a viable option to replace Alex Gonzalez.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) If the Marlins GM ends up trading Delgado and Pierre for Rich Hill, Rowand, Marte, and Rogo......then he should win the award for worse executive ever. Hell, maybe we can throw in Vizcaino in the deal, and get Miguel Cabrera! You didn't answer the question. And BTW, they are trying to shed payroll. Rowand is better than Pierre. Hill is a good pitching prospect who some think is the next Barry Zito which would work in Miami. Marte still is a decent RP, despite him being our worst reliever. Rogo also is a pretty good 1B prospect, but I just threw him in as a prospect. They might want Sean Tracey instead. But it won't take one of our 6 SP's.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Any Pierre deal to the Cubs will almost definitely include Patterson in it. Patterson's contact you mention? I've never heard anyone mention anything about it be a problem. I guarantee you that they could get a MUCH better deal for Delgado than 3 players like the ones mentioned. Oh really? Enlighten me as who they could get that would equal that package? Keep in mind that the team has to be willing to take that contract(at least 13 mil). The only way any deal with Pierre includes Patterson is if Lowell is thrown in. The Marlins don't want to take on more contracts than they have to.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) Patterson will also be included in any Pierre deal, and he'll be their CF. Rowand, Marte, and Rogo are not enough to get Delgado, let alone have the Marlins pay some of his contract. Don't forget that the Marlins love Contreras and that they think he'd be a hit with the Cubans by playing in Florida. Patterson wouldn't have to be included. In fact, the Marlins would prefer his contract to be kept out of any potential deal. Hill would be the guy in the deal. We fill two of their needs and give them a 1B prospect who could fill the hole in 2 years. So basically, we're giving them what they need(not luxuries) for a guy they need to get rid of because of his big contract. I don't think Contreras is needed in the deal at all.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) No way in hell is Crede worth $3.5 million, even though you are probably right in what he will get. But, when Borass is the agent, we will be ripped in arbitration. He'll get no more than 2.5 million.
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) I estimated the amounts for these players: Pierz: $4 Crede: $3.5 Gload: $400K Harris: $400K Viz: $1.5 BMac: $400K Cotts: $400K Jenks: $350K Garland: $7 Anderson: $350K Kong: $13M +Delgado: $13.5 The team payroll came out to $100.325M then you could subtract Rowand and Marte's salaries A lot of the $400K players could be less next season. Crede will get 2.5 max. He won't jump up 3 million from his current contract, I can guarentee that. Garland will receive 6.5 IMHO.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) Um, are some people forgetting what we'd have to give up to get Delgado? It would probably cost the Sox Contreras, and put us without a 5th starter again. I don't think so. The Cubs, even though the Marlins want Pie, will most likely give up Rich Hill(a starter with lots of upside) for Pierre. That leaves the Marlins needing a CFer (Rowand). They also need relievers to bridge the gap between their starters and Todd Jones(assuming they resign him) which would be Damaso. Now we might have to throw in a prospect like Rogo, but I would be fine with that considering we would have Delgado and Kong.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) Linkie for ESPN 1000: http://espnradio1000.com/ then go to listen live and I think other Local programming to listen. BTW, Levine is gone. Thanks. I'll use it now because there really isn't much on tv.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:13 PM) All that doesn't mean that Reinsdorf is going to raise the payroll that much. Without a salary dump of some sort, we would need a $100 million payroll to re-sign Konerko for market value and add Delgado via a trade. Unless we were to trade A-Row and Damaso of course. I love how Kenny keeps trying, but man, JR and company must be really happy about the WS and must want another if they're willing to open up the wallet that much, that quickly. BTW, anyone have a link for ESPN 1000.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) Once again showing that Levine knows nothing. Levine needs to lay off the crack. He's been wrong countless times before. Did Reinsdorf just raise the payroll by $25 million or something? Yeah, I doubt this would happen. I really don't see it. I think Thomas will be our DH next year with PK or Delgado as our 1B. I doubt our payroll just got jacked up that high in just one season. Usually, that would happen the offseason after the year we won the World Series because the season after the WS season is when teams really reap the benefits of winning the championship.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:08 PM) If the Phillies were willing to trade Abreu for Wells, and it was the Jays who turned it down because of the salary, it means the Sox would have a good shot at Abreu for Aaron Rowand straight up if they were willing to take on the salary. I think it's worth it. I don't see Kenny doing it simply because his defense in CF would be a downgrade from Rowand's and we still would need a 1B with a big bat if this were to happen(assuming PK is traded).
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 09:02 PM) If it means anything, Levine was on 1000 and said KW was giddy because teams were willing to talk trade already and Levine says the Sox can afford Delgado and Konerko without a salary dump of sorts. BOTH??

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) One injury can be one too many, especially at his age. You could say that about anyone at any age. I could understand if he was injured for 3 straight years with the same injury, but he hasn't been. The basis for calling him injury prone is non-existant.
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:40 PM) I have seen his offensive numbers, yet I have not seen his defensive numbers. I trust offensive numbers more than defensive numbers anyway, since basically all defensive stats are flawed. OPS, on the other hand, seems to be a pretty good way of seeing the productivity of a player on offense. Have you read what I've said? If the trade is for a big bat, I can understand it. I've said this now 4 times in this thread (I consider Thome to be an over the hill, injury prone player however) Thome had one year in which he was injured. I guess nowadays, that makes a player injury prone. :banghead

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:38 PM) Don't get fooled by the two homeruns he hit.. he only had 16 in AAA.. And if you want to use that small sample, shall we look at his K:BB ratio in his brief majors stint? And his home ballpark in AAA, IIRC, plays like a pitcher's ballpark while the Cell plays like a HR hitter's ballpark. How many HR's did ARow have in Coors Light Field?

QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) if we lose Paulie, we need the offense that Anderson can bring. We do? Anderson is unproven. Rowand is a world series centerfielder. That's the worst logic ever. There's been ton of s***ty players on WS teams, but by your logic, they should've been kept in favor of new guys being brought in just because they were World Series players?
-
QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) I've said this at least twice in this thread. If the trade is for a big bat, ok, it's sensible. If its for extra pitching which would just sit on the bench and wait for an injury, then no, trading Rowand would make absolutely no sense imo. I believe that Rowand will be a key player in the organization next year. Not only will he offer gold glove defense (which I'm not sure Anderson can, although, as said before, I haven't seen him play defense, so I can't judge it), but he has been a good teammate and leader on the team. His offensive numbers were down last year, yes, but as I said before, only 4 rookies all last year had a better OPS than Rowand did, and Brian Anderson likely won't put up numbers similar to Iguchi, Cano, Atkins, or even Swisher, which are the four rookies. I think that Anderson is still another year or so away from being an impact player in the outfield, and I might end up eating crow for this, but until he is ready, and has proven that he can provide better offense than Rowand, I'd stick with A-Row. I also think that Rowand will put in a year closer to '04 than last year was. He's had another year of experience, and I believe that it will make a difference. Likely a ~.800 OPS, although, as I've said before, this is mostly just a random guess. So wait, you admit you haven't seen Anderson play, but yet you could come up with the conclusion that he's still a year away?

Quite simply: Yes. It is the next generation console. If you're going to get it, you better reserve it right now. Those things are going to be selling like hotcakes.

QUOTE(Felix @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) I know its a small sample size, but if you are going to criticize Rowand for his lack of plate discipline, which you have all rights to do, I mean, he really needs to work on it, then why not criticize Anderson as well? What indicates that his will be much better than Rowands? In AAA last year, he had a 115:44 strikeouts to walks ratio. As far as I can tell, their plate discipline is basically equal. Equal. Exactly. Which means that Anderson projects to be not much worse than Rowand. His defense is as good if not better than Rowand's too. I'm not saying he'll hit 40 HR's, but the fact that we have Anderson, makes Rowand expendable.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 11, 2005 -> 03:41 AM) Thank you. Tell me you've never played a PC EA game before and tell me you haven't been impressed with the graphics. And it's only going to be better with the XBOX 360. It seems like people are b****ing about EA, for the sake of b****ing on EA, because they have a monopoly on the market yada, yada, yada, and not because the games are actually GOOD. Exactly. People are just b****ing at EA Games because they're EA games. MVP was by far the best sports game IMHO.
