  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) ESPN also thinks Derek Jeter is the best defensive shortstop in the history of the game. What does ESPN have to do with the conversation?
  2. QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 06:31 PM) I can't say I've seen this guy play as much as Rowand but I've noticed he does have great range, at least in the games I've seen. Blasphemy
  3. I dream of Scott Podsednik leading off a game with a single. Then Juan Pierre trying to bunt him over and in the process getting a INF single while he's at it. To cap it off, with no outs, they cause the pitcher so much stress after a double steal and Thome/Dye/Thomas drive them both in with one or two outs.
  4. QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) I don't know where you get your scouting report on Pierre's poor defense. But I'll take ESPN's view, after the 2004 season: "His defense remains a huge plus at spacious Pro Player Stadium. His range allowed the Marlins to get by with Miguel Cabrera and Jeff Conine flanking him for the first four months. Pierre's arm probably precludes him from Gold Glove consideration, but he never gives up on balls in the gap and makes his share of highlight catches. His resemblance to a young Mickey Rivers remains eerie." Exactly. It's laughable how people say his defense sucks or is considerably worse than Rowand's.
  5. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:37 PM) Green? Nope. Bledsoe was better overall in my Yahoo League than Brees and Bledsoe was playing the Lions.
  6. s***, I benched him in favor of Drew Bledsoe.
  7. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) This isn't what we should be arguing over. It should be whether the Sox will score more runs by upgrading their #2 position, where they posted a .276/.335/.422 line, or the #3 spot, where they managed just a .234/.296/.419. Only the Bay Area teams had less production from the #3 spot. There are much more pressing needs than "who should bat 2nd?" Kenny knows this. He ain't wasting his time appeasing Ozzie behind the scenes. He's going to do what's best for the club, and that's finding a LHed bat that can get on base and put the ball out of the yard. And why can't we do both? If Philly is willing to eat enough of Thome's contract, it's certainly doable.
  8. QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) My girlfriend works at the corporate offices for Potbelly. Free meals all the time baby. My regular friend makes sandwiches for Potbelly. Free sandwiches all the time baby!
  9. That was a damn good game last night. Great effort by Fresno State. I expected them to get blown out in the 3rd and never get within 3 TD's by the end of the quarter.
  10. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 20, 2005 -> 11:07 AM) I really hope we get Thome, no matter what happens with PK. If PK stays, Thome can DH, because I have little confidence in a healthy Frank returning. If PK goes, then we really need Thome at 1B, and if Frank is not healthy, probably yet another bat. I hear the A's are looking at Thomas for DH.
  11. BTW, I trust the White Sox brass in what they're doing. I would prefer if we just traded away Marte and a prospect for Pierre and then trading Rowand and a prospect or two for Thome.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) His IP have increased his entire career while his WHIP has also gone down his entire career(with the exception of 02-03). Beckett, IMO, is a sleeper 20 game winner next year. Iit's hard to say sleeper when he has shown that he is a very good pitcher, but it's not hard when considering his health issues. You cannot worry about Pierre however until you know what is going to happen with PK. Once you figure out WTF is going on with him, then you can move onto other potential deals. The type of package I would not be surprised to see if the Sox were to lose Konerko would be to look to acquiring Thome and perhaps Pierre either at the same time, or simultaneously at the very least. The problem with both trades is that both teams are looking for similar types of players...both want OFers and both want relief pitching. Both are areas the Sox are deep in, but they aren't really deep enough to do both. I don't think you can give up Rowand in a Pierre trade at all. If you do, you are crippling any chance you have of acquiring Thome. So your willing to bet a guy who hasn't sniffed 200 IP is going to win 20 games? I doubt it. He basically has to win every game he pitches. He's the definition of a wuss. He's Kerry Wood part deux when it comes to injuries.
  13. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 01:50 PM) I think the offer reported there by the Red Sox is better than the one from Texas. Both are mediocre. I think Hanley Ramirez is overrated as well as Anibal Sanchez. I would say it's slightly better unless the Marlins could get either pitching prospect from Texas.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 12:26 AM) I don't buy it. The fact that they are trying to move Pierre($6 mill) and LoDuca($6.25 mill) signals to me that Delgado will almost undoubtedly be a Marlin next year. Well moving Delgado would be easier than moving the both of those guys. Plus, that means they get to keep those guys and save a mil, rather than trading them and keeping Delgado. I think Delgado will be a Met or Oriole next year.
  15. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 19, 2005 -> 12:19 AM) Delgado available? I think not If they are willing to deal Josh Beckett, who turns 26 next year, and Lowell while his value is at its lowest, for Blalock, who is solid but not spectacular, and a stud pitching prospect, then I think it shows they are clearly building around Cabrera and Delgado. Well from Florida fans, I hear that they will be keeping Cabrera at 3B and moving Blalock to 1B once they move Delgado. Who knows though?
  16. Beckett & Lowell for Blalock & pitching prospect. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...rlins_1119.html
  17. QUOTE(Nokona @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 06:55 PM) Conant will be in the St. Viator tournament starting Tuesday. Look for the Cougar Crazies out in full force. We should at least make a run for the MSL title this year. The Cougar Crazies have nothing on the "Crusader Crazies" of Brother Rice. I remember my freshmen there year and I've never been to a Brother Rice high school basketball game. I think we were playing Leo or St. Rita. The atmosphere was crazy. I still remember when we had to go to Thornwood for a sectional(when they had Eddy Curry), we somehow had as much if not more fans than they did. No one has the right to call themself "Crazies" in the state of Illinois except for Brother Rice. BTW, GO ST. IGNATIUS!!!! Neh, even though I ended up transferring there for my last two years, I could never muster up the emotion to cheer for them. Even when we beat Crane and made Florentino Valencia cry because we screwed up their undefeated season, I still could never get up for them. Though I like their coach who was my U.S. History teacher. Great guy.
  18. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Actually, I'd say he has the best shot out of all of them. The guy is the face of the franchise, and from an outsiders perspective, when it comes to the White Sox, Ozzie is the story. Personally, I think they're all deserving. I agree.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) I've only known Subway and nothing else. Sign I need to get out? For Shizzle!
  20. No way. He's bad in CF. Stick Anderson in CF.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 18, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) No Pot Belly's love so far? For Shame That's what I'm saying. Potbelly's is great. The Wreck is my favorite from there. Only thing is they need to make bigger subs. I also love Fontano's. They make the subs I'm too lazy to make at home and do a damn good job of it. Can't forget about Mr. Sub.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 11:05 PM) I don't get why everyone's knocking the Eyre move. Just becuase the Cubs made a move, doesn't mean its a bad one. Scott Eyre was really good last year and if he pitches like he did this past season, he's definately a great pickup, even if they did pay a mill or year too much (and if he pitches like he did last year, 3 million a year is more than fair). 1)He's overpaid. 2)Up until last year, he was a mediocre reliever at best. 3)He's not a young prospect who finally got it. He's an older guy who had a lucky year. I say he has more of a year like Esteban Loaiza had his 2nd year here rather than a year like last year. I wouldn't knock the move if they didn't overpay so much. For that money, I would've just upped it a bit more to go after Ryan.
  23. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) I'm not so sure now. This is straight from Cubs.com: http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc This could be the worst reliever contract in the history of the MLB. That's probably 2 years for 11 million and then a player option for a 3rd year at an undisclosed amount of cash.
  24. QUOTE(bkmoney @ Nov 17, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) espn is reporting its 2/11.. option not yet finalized. and there is going to be a signing bonus thrown in too cubs using some of their money i guess.. That's overpaying for the guy. I'd say unless Furcal signs for cheaper, they'll be signing Alex Gonzalez of Florida.
  25. Damnit, the White Sox have s***ty insiders. Hopefully they bring in someone like Bob Nightengale.
