  1. Blame the Cubs for overpaying. They're the ones who set the market. Goddamn though. That's way overpaying for Ryan. He makes as much as Rivera, does he not? BTW, a suggestion: Change the thread title to "B.J. Ryan Has a New Home, Car, Plane, Boat, Cousin..." or "That's One Expensive B.J."
  2. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 03:00 PM) Wow, I havent been to that place in ages. Yeah, it's a yearly tradition for me and a couple of friends from high school. Oh well, I never liked that place anyway for trying to make me serve other peoples' drinks and not get paid for it. Then again, it would be the ideal place for me to work at. I could be mean to people and have them do my job and get paid for it.
  3. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Well, the trade is official! Trib: Thome trade a done deal Although, on an interesting note, nowhere in the article does it mention Gio as being part of the deal. It just says a player to be named later. Is it still expected to be Gio? Am I missing something here? I heard it's because Gio isn't on the 40 man roster that they have to put him in as PTBNL. Take it for whatever it's worth.
  4. Crap, I didn't know it was going to be displayed this week. Ugh, I really wanted to get a pic with it. Oh well. Thanks for sharing Rangercal, beautiful pics.
  5. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) I have the #$%#$^ flu... so I've been pretty much doing nothing but sleeping. This sucks. Did you at least get to eat Thanksgiving dinner? I didn't. I have strep throat. I can't swallow anything unless it's tea. I have to garggle salt water. It sucks big time. So much food, but I can't eat any of it. I also can't go to Ed Debevich's tonight.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) Would that be University of Texas-Austin or Texas A&M? University of Texas-Austin.
  7. QUOTE(maki @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) man, i'm good, aren't i? Can you do Chavez or bust and Pujols or bust?
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) You don't know everything, nite, give this one up. No one does.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Rowand44 and I agreed that this is the exact reason the White Sox traded Rowand to Philly. He requires too many CDs to come up to the plate. Lol, I just noticed that. He loves Linkin Park.
  10. Pierre's decent in CF. He's not the worse. He's just middle of the pack defensively. Would he be a downgrade defensively from Rowand or Anderson? Yes.
  11. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:39 PM) Not in center. What your saying is dead wrong. CF still has swirling winds. Hell, send Hawk an email, maybe than you'd listen. As you said, "Does Hawk play CF?
  12. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:36 PM) Nah nah, there is no wind in Chicago The wind blows straight out.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Just end it...Beltre >>> Crede All being equal, salary and everything else and its not close. Beltre had a down year last year and sure he had a career year. Thats not to say it wasn't the best year ever by a 3rd baseman. I'm not some homer and I don't just have this strong opinions unless I have a damn good reason behind em. In this case I know I'm right, most of the time I think things are debatable but the things your talking about aren't. Ask anyone in baseball in regards to any of the things were debated and they'll give you the answers I've been giving you (and no I'm not some baseball expert of front office exec, I'm far from it). That said I'm not gonna sit and just look at foolish post after foolish post where people slam Aaron's defense or say Crede is god. Beltre>>>Crede, now that's a joke. Beltre has a career year. That's nice. Again, it came in a contract year and in my opinion he was juicing. His homeruns were down much more than A-row's was. I know he plays at Safeco, but he still should've had 30HR's if 2004 wasn't a fluke. He had one great year. Every other year, he's been just like Crede. You can't tell me Beltre >>> Crede. The most you could say is Beltre>Crede or Crede Look at every year other than 2004 in Beltre's career and try to tell me he's significantly better than Crede. He's not. Both have had the same type of career. Plus Beltre has played for 2 more years. I'm going to wait to see what Crede does this year and then you could compare his production with Beltre's 6th year production.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Jim Edmonds isn't even close to Aaron defensively. I'd say he is. They're both the same type of guys. Don't rely on speed, but rather on great jumps they get.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:19 PM) Size doesn't have anything to do with getting a read. Playing nooks and crannies of your park, that deals with knowing the field and how the balls bounce. Getting a read is getting a read, big part or small. Now when your having to factor swirling winds into the park, that effects how well you can get reads. You know a park is huge, you still get your read and have to go get the ball. Whether its going to stay in the park or not, you have your read. Are you positioned different in a huge cavernous outfield...sure, but that doesn't effect your read. The wind at the Cell doesn't swirl anymore. It hasn't for two years. It goes straight out which is why the park has become a HR hitters ballpark.
  16. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) More range too. But I'm a big time Beltre backer (as am I a Crede backer). Beltre is a pure stud when healthy. Two years ago, he put up the best season ever by a 3rd baseman (as far as I'm concerned). Beltre had one great season in a contract year. Last year Beltre hit .255 with 19 HR and 87 RBI's. I would venture to say Crede would match the RBI's if he hit in a 3-4-5 hole.
  17. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) Is this serious... I'm sorry but Crede has done nothing to prove he'll ever hit better then .250 in the regular season... Yes his defense is great but as so many of you love to point out about Rowand... it's replaceable... No matter how sexy his hits were in the playoffs... Price for production wise, I'm taking Crede. Rodriguez doesn't warrant his contract in my eyes. Rolen is good, but I don't know how he'll react after coming off of his injury. Beltre is as same of a question mark offensively as Crede. Cabrera is a nice 3B, but I don't know about his defense which this team is built on. Keep in mind I'm talking about in terms of this current team as well. If I'm starting a whole new team, it would go as follows: Chavez Rodriguez Cabrera Rolen Ramirez Crede Beltre
  18. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) had to make one, because i have the disc. Eh, I don't like all the green. Other than that, it's a pretty damn good job.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I agree with you. Crede is the best in the biz next to a healthy Rolen, Beltre, and Chavez. Oh and another guy I'd take in a heartbeat and the guy who I think has a shot to be the best 3rd baseman in 05 would be Adrian Beltre. Crede and Beltre are equal to each other. Beltre has a stronger arm and that's pretty much it.
  20. QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) RODRIGUEZ!?!?!?!?! We would never ever ever ever get Rodriguez. Plus he doesn't come through in the clutch at all, and he's not as good defensively as Joe Crede. Big-Time choker. I'd take Chavez since this team is built on pitching and defense and Chavez bring the defense and he brings better offense. Chavez > Rodriguez @ 3B. A-Rod no doubt is the better SS.
  21. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Cabrerra, Rolen, Aramis Ramirez...all better than Crede. There are guys better than Joe. I love Joe and I don't even know why I'm discussing it. He's going to be back on the SouthSide and I think he's going to have a good year. .270ish with 30 Hr's (he's gonna do it this year). Defensively: Rowand > Cabrera, Ramirez, probably Rolen if his injury flares up again.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) No...size has nothing to do with tougher place to play (at least not if you have good range). Getting good reads on the ball in US Cellular is way tougher. When it comes to going and getting balls in a big park, Aaron has long shown there isn't a guy better than him at it (outside of Jones and Hunter). Aaron can flat get jumps and go get em. He showed that in New York (a very very spacious CF). Size has a lot to do with how tough it is defensively to get a read on the ball. Put Aaron in Oakland and he doesn't get to as much balls as he did last year. Put Kotsay in CF for the White Sox last year and I'd say he gets to as much if not more.
  23. I'm keeping Crede over anyplayer not named Chavez.
