Damaso Marte could be headin to the Dodgers
nitetrain8601 replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Bradley is good for certain teams. He would be good for the Cubs because it seems like guys in their clubhouse don't really care about winning. They seem to go around acting casual about everything. They need someone who would call someone out when they're not doing their job. -
Both healthy, probably Frank & Rowand simply because Thomas is a guy people still fear and indicated by his walk numbers, plus he strikes out less. A true #3 hitter in the sense.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) I know stats don't tell everyting but greatness is mostly based on stats and championships. For example, if it was based on defense, Bruce Bowen would be one of the most popular players in the NBA. I didn't say it was based purely on defense. It's based on impact on the game. Pippen had a huge impact on the game. There's a reason why he was almost MVP in 2002 with Portland with only 11ppg. He was a leader and helped in so many aspects of the game.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:51 PM) idk, I just think he was more than a complimentary player, but not a superstar. And yes statistically when Jordan wasn't there averaging over 20 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. That's very solid, but unlike some of the greats, when his career was ending, his ability statistically really took a hit. He was old already. Look at Gary Payton's career. And Gary Payton is definately a HOF PG. He was better than Kidd for much of his career. Stats don't tell the whole story. And complitmentary player? How do you explain '94 when he was within inches of winning the season MVP and when he won the All-Star game MVP? Pippen was an awesome player in the shadow of Jordan. It's sad that Pip will never get the full recognition he deserved because he was definately an al-time great. The guy could do soooo many things.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) Would have been better in my opinion and would have gotten alot more recognition. He was the best all around player in the league the when jordan went to try out baseball. I agree. Like someone said on RealGM. Put him on the Showtime Lakers in place of Magic and I bet he gets more recognition, has better numbers and is named one of the greatest PG's ever if not these best. His defense was stifling and his basketball IQ was off the charts. Add to that his athleticism and you have a great great player. Unfortunately, he'll always be in Jordan's shadow.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) This team is just unbelieveably frustrating to watch. Got that right.
-
BTW, did anyone catch Lovie Smith at the game?
-
Our offense looks horrible. Tonight's a game in which we really could use a Tim Thomas *ducks for cover*

Bulls are playing like s***. Any possible way we could get MJ and Pip to suit up so they don't ruin this night?

UPDATE: Tejada never wanted trade

Tejada isn't a juicer. -
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 10:36 AM) They waited this long to do it.. Kind of like hitting your dog a week after he pees on the the carpet. Correct. This is just stupid.

33 minute train ride. 8 minute walk. The usual as always.

Grossman Upgraded to 2nd string

There's only one way to settle this: JEFF BLAKE FOR STARTING QB! -

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:16 PM) I personally love Miguel Tejada. How about Jon Garland, Juan Uribe, and Ryan Sweeney for Miguel Tejada and Eric Bedard (or Daniel Cabrera) Too much. Uribe, Sweeney, Harris, Liotta for Tejada and cash. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:12 PM) I hate how players can basically get themselves traded if they want to. You're getting pay, and extremely well, so shut the f*** up. EDIT: And Miguel isn't happy with the Orioles, he can go home and get his f***in' shinebox. Hypothetically speaking, if Kenny traded for him, you're going to be saying the same thing? I doubt it. -

QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Really? He was the only member of the Group 4 guys who made no contribution in the postseason. Harris scored the only run in the WS clinching game. Blum hit the game-winning HR in the 3rd WS game. Widger walked to drive in the other run in that inning. Ozuna stole second and scored after AJ stole first in game 2 against the Angels. Timo was out in his only plate appearance. He's a great clubhouse guy, one of the few guys who could actually translate Ozzie to Iguchi. He's pretty decent defensively. Ozzie loves the guy. He won't be gone unless he flips off Ozzie. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) A kidney and a lung and you have yourself a bet sir! I'll take that bet.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) i would rather have Javy catch. He is MUCH BETTER at handling a pitching staff. I think you can credit some of the success of the Braves pitching staff to him being the catcher. Actually, I heard Javy isn't that great at calling games at all which is why the Braves let him go and which is why Maddux didn't want him as his catcher.

QUOTE(VAfan @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) This is a great move on several fronts. 1. Goodbye Marte. Can't we all recite horror stories of Marte coming into games? How about Ozzie summoning him for the 3rd game against Boston. Nixon singles, followed by walks to Mueller and Olerud to load the bases in a 1-rum game. Or the game when he hit the two lefties he faced? Etc., etc., etc. The guy has tremendous "stuff" but he wasn't going to harness it for us any more, and I was tired of watching Ozzie use him in situations when anyone else from our pen would have been a better choice. 2. Goodbye Timo. Another Ozzie favorite who got way more than his share of ABs last year. Yes he won one game against the Angels with a pinch hit in the 9th, but otherwise he never should have seen the field. 3. Insurance for the inevitable Anderson slumps. Anderson's first 34 ABs don't give me great confidence that he can be a full-time CF this year. We needed a backup plan other than Jerry Owens and Chris Young (and I suppose Joe Borchard). Mackowiak should allow Ozzie to rest Anderson against tough right handers, especially early in the season. 4. Insurance for Crede's back. Mackowiak will likely help rest Crede at least once a week. By sitting him against some right handers, this might also help keep Crede out of his horrific slumps. 5. A legit lefty pinch hitter. If Mack isn't in the starting lineup, he offers a very good lefty pinch hitting option for Anderson, Uribe, or even Tadahito. In interleague games, he'll have other pinch hitting opptys. 6. Lefty backup for Tadahito. Mackowiak will also get some time at 2B against right handers, as Ozuna doesn't hit righties well at all. With Timo gone, the guy on the bubble is Willie Harris. He'll almost certainly be gone because he didn't prove he can play SS. It's too bad, as Harris is much better defensively at 2B than Tadahito or Mackowiak or even Ozuna. And he has more speed than anyone on the team, even Pods. The bench is now Widger, Mackowiak, and Ozuna, with slots for 1 or 2 more guys, depending on whether we carry 12 pitchers. Personally, until we got Mackowiak, I was wondering if Jose Valentin would be ready to slip into a utility role for the infield. And I still wonder if he wouldn't be a better backup for Uribe/Iguchi than Ozuna is. Probably not, because Ozuna has value as a righty backup to Pods in LF. And certainly Jose would want a lot more money than Ozuna makes. So I'm satisfied with Mack. I'd bet my kidney that Timo is here next year.

For all the s*** Willie gets, remember that he looked alot better after being called up from AAA, remember that he sucks up everything at 2B, and remember that he's speed off the bench. And I hear that people didn't like Willie because I guess he pulled some stunt in 2004, but from everything I've seen this past year, he was always talking to guys on the team like Buehrle and it looked like he got along with them just fine.

Hate it for reasons stated in the other thread.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) why did they draft Benson? They had a good RB in Thomas Jones. They wanted to run the football a lot more. To be a team that runs the ball like the Steelers do you need 2 good running backs. They planned on using Thomas Jones as a backup and quietly letting him go when his contract was up or trade him, but Benson f'd up his plan. -
I'd do this in a heartbeat and it's not even a question. Willis is a charasmatic young LHP with great stuff. Plus he's had 2 bad 2nd halves and his last one was a good one. I guess it's not possible to be a pitcher that has turned the corner unless you come from the White Sox. McCarthy is a question mark. Willis may be one in the 2nd half, but he's even still way less of a question mark.
