Sox could offer best package for Tejada
QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 09:01 AM) OC sucks. Both the player, and the show. Let's not get crazy here. The show friggin' rocks. Though Reunion is better.

Sox could offer best package for Tejada
QUOTE(JimH @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:48 AM) This is hilarious, people are saying don't get the very best SS in baseball because we have to give up a SS and a pitcher, and also we have people who are afraid of payroll like it's their own money. Unreal. This is Miguel Tejada, people. Damn right. And Miguel Tejada is at least as good as Uribe on his worst day defensively.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) We should get OC for our shortstop instead! Seriously, I don't want to give up Brandon. Well most of our pitching are beginning their primes or are younger than that. If we deal McCarthy for a Tejada, this would be a trade gearing for several more World Series runs. Also, now that we dealt Vizcaino, something tells me that if this deal was done, one of their relievers would be added like a dare I say, LaTroy Hawkins or a Jorge Julio.

Well, I love Tejada. Fathom, Miguel Tejada is the Albert Pujols/Miguel Cabrera of his position, except he plays defense very good as well. I doubt this happens. Correction, I'm 99.9% sure this doesn't happen.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) Which, when you consider any possible 6-man rotation, lends credence to the White Sox trading Garland now. Are you going to trade him now, with a full year of service under a team, or midseason? If you believe is value is lessened now, just wait until June. I don't believe Williams has a rotation set in mind to battle possible injuries (Garcia--WBC). And neither do I believe McCarthy deserves to be in the bullpen. He'll be lucky to work more than 3 innings in any one game he pitches. Don't do this to him. Where's the Kenny Williams' of the league? Where's the person willing to overpay? Someone has to be willing to give up talent in exchange for pitching. Kenny Williams is a smart man who knows what he's doing. I don't but this whole, "McCarthy doesn't deserve this" jargin. McCarthy in the pen would be excellent for us because he would still get his time in. You act like we've never thrown someone in the bullpen and let them start as well. Look at Buehrle. He was a bullpen arm for us in 2000 and started in 2001. I like my pitching staff to be deep. Without McCarthy we have no insurance just in case 1 memeber of the staff goes down.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:41 AM) Doesn't the air in Arizona also mess with a pitcher's breaking stuff? Yeah, something about it makes all breaking stuff less effective. That's why when McCarthy's curve was working well last year in ST, people were raving about him.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) That CBS article made me a little worried on that, but hopefully that's what happens, especially since we're giving up Chris Young here. But now I'm going to propose something here with Jon Garland. Miguel Tejada. That's right, you can start calling me crazy right now. But if right now we offered, Jon Garland and Joe Crede or Juan Uribe plus a prospect (would have to be top 5) for Tejada, don't you think that's the best offer the O's would have received so far? And it's actually do-able payroll wise. Garland will make 7-8M in 2006 if he goes thru arbitration. Crede prob 3-4M, and Uribe makes about that, so we only take an extra 1 or 2M. I extremely doubt something like this will occur, but if you're looking at possible trade scenarios for Jon Garland, with the current market, and what teams have, Miggy Tejada looks like a pretty damn good fit. Now do I like the trade? Well it's going to depend on a number of factors. How good of a player Chris Young turns into (I'm guessing he could eventually be a monster at Chase Field), the reliever we're giving up (I think Baj or Munoz possibly), what we get for Jon Garland, and how Vazquez does for us over the next 3 seasons compared to Jon Garland for what they're making etc. I love Tejada as much as the next guy and I think he was given too much crap, but with Tejada onboard, I think that's just too many personalities on the team.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:28 AM) Well, we subtract El Duque's $4.5 million for 2006 and add Vazquez's $11.5 million in 2006 and $12.5 million in 2007. So that's $7 million added to our payroll in 2006 and $12.5 million added to our payroll in 2007. I still hope the Diamondbacks are sending us the Yankees $3 million per season for Vazquez's contract. That would make Vazquez's contract a little easier to stomach. Don't matter to me. I'm not paying it. All I'm supposed to do is go to the ballpark and enjoy the game and I've done my part.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:20 AM) to some teams, but I think to some contending teams it would still be pretty high, if a team has a hole in their rotation and one good pitcher can make a difference next year, his value would still be high But those teams aren't going to be willing to give up good major league talent for him else they'll be subtracting from their team. We don't care for Minor league talent at this point except our own(I don't see any more of our OF prospects or pitching being dealt.)

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) We all have to remember that Garland's impending trip to free agency after 2006 shoots down his trade value a great deal, especially when teams throw 5-year, $50+ million contracts at him. That's what I think alot of people are underrating. I'm suprised no one has mentioned Garland for Pujols, Bonds, or Texieria.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) I agree. And I'm fine with him in the bullpen, as long as he is used. And I suspect that, being the quality pitcher he is and that Ozzie even used Viz alot, B-Mac will get used. If anything, he can solidify our bullpen as a long relief guy. Wouldn't be the first time its been done with a young, soon-to-be starter. Yeah, I'm thinking he's going to be handled like Buehrle was.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:12 AM) How about an Eliminator? What the s*** is that? I don't care if it's a meatball, it sounds f***ing awesome. Kind of like R.A. Dickey's(from Texas) "The Thing" pitch.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:10 AM) So if Garland isn't traded, I guess McCarthy will just take over the role that El Duque would have had with us in 2006 if he wasn't traded -- long reliever / spot starter out of the bullpen. Well no. Ozzie had El Duque starting this year if he was with us.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) B-Mac is a major league ready pitcher, but I don't see the harm in easing him into the rotation. He'll fill the role he had most of this year. We were extremely lucky to have our starters as healthy as they were from start to finish, but its hard to expect that every year. If, god forbid, something were to happen to one of our five starters...BAM! Here comes B-Mac! Bullpen or AAA, I don't know. But I'm sure Ozzie, Coop & Crew will know what is best for him. Either way, we've come a long way since our "5th starter by committee" days. 4th by committee days you mean. We through out some chumps after Buehrle and Garland in 2001. 2002 we through out Buehrle, Garland and Ritchie was it?

garland for vazquez
QUOTE(hi8is @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) 15 people positve about vazquez and only 8 negitive against him so it looks like the general population here for the most part likes vazquez Well because with the right pitching coach(Coop), Vazquez can be electric. Not just good, electric. He has as good of stuff as anyone else on the staff if not better when on.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:01 AM) This is crazy. I kinda like acting like the Yankees or Red Sox and trading for every big name. Let's get to work on Tejada and Griffey after this B) I know. It feels great to finally act like we're the big city team we are and trump the northside in the process.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:55 AM) I wouldn't want Griffey, I don't care if it was a little foot injury. If he was so healthy to play after a week then why didn't they let him at least spot start. Even with JG in his last year I am sure there are teams in the playoff hunt hungry to acquire a pitcher. They were in the process of selling their team and wanted to protect all their assets which is why they didn't want to deal Griffey either.

QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) I am sorry but I think we could get a better player in return than an old injury plagued Griffey. I don't think you can simply because Garland is on the last year of his deal. Plus Griffey hurt his foot at the end of last year, but it was said he could've played after a week if they were in contention which they weren't. It'll be 5 years from now when people start saying he isn't injury prone anymore, and by then he'll be retired and others will be wishing we didn't miss the boat on him. Garland for Griffey or bust. I don't want Pods in CF. I don't want Abreu in CF.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) Garland for Figgins and Romero, there all done. They just dealt for Romero so he's not being traded. They'll never deal Figgins. He'll probably man CF while McPherson gets 3B this year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) I have absolutely zero clue who the outfielder would be, but you never know. And we wouldn't even have to ask the question "where would he play". Maybe Griffey, maybe somebody we aren't even thinking of from a contender (or team in general) that is desperate for a really good starter. I say Garland for Griffey because Griffey is a natural CF, probably would get dealt for SP because Cinci needs alot of it, and he's a great LH at bat. Plus we wouldn't have to move Pods from LF. Checkout the lineup: LF - Podsednik SS - Uribe DH - Thome 1B - Konerko CF - Griffey Jr. RF - Dye C - Pierzynski 2B - Iguchi 3B - Crede We all know how much Ozzie loves the lefty-righty matchups. This would be his wet dream come true.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 12:39 AM) Oh I agree, and IMO it gets better with a Vasquez for Duque swap. It's just, we are 6 deep....and as nice as that is, we can trade Garland for a proven 3rd outfielder (even move Pods to CF to put a corner guy in left) rather than lose him after this season, and STILL have ONE OF the best in the game. Sounds pretty enticing if you as me. Garland for Ken Griffey Jr???
