QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 24, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) = Believe it or not, I'm playing center field. I never thought that I really could be. Trying to make people forget that Aaron played there. Who could it be? Believe it or not it's just me.

How close were the Sox from moving to Tampa?
retro1983hat replied to zenryan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was in high school when this was happening and in May of 1988, the Sox played the Cubs in the old Crosstown Classic game at Wrigley. I think the game went like 15 innings. Well during the game, a bunch of us Sox fans stood up and started chanting "Save our Sox!, Save our Sox!" I didn't realize until years later, how close we were to losing the 2005 World Champs to Florida. -
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) The Score just said that the Sox gave Ozzie a present today - the US flag that flew over the Cell during the World Series. I must say that the Sox have gone from a weekly PR disaster to consistently doing the right thing. We are becoming the classiest organization in the MLB.

Unboleeevable!!!

Gas station, liquor store, etc...... get pocket schedule ..... open .... place on fridge ..... place magnet on top of schedule ..... admire for rest of year.

I was there last year and had a good time. Before I could decide whether I wanted to go again this year, the tickets were all gone. I really enjoyed the seminars but waiting in the lines for autographs was not for me. A few suggestions though: Utilize the large ballroom right when you first walk in more. Possibly change venues. The lower level where most of the players are, is old, dirty, dark and dingy. Allow more room for the autograph lines. Most of the room is used up in that whole flea market area. JMO!

I am disapointed they eliminated the Minnie 9-game plan. Last year I sat in the lower bowl for every game. Looks like if I have to buy individual tickets, it will be all upper deck. On another note, we will have to retrain our ears. When Hawk or Rooney used to say things like, "good crowd on hand" or "lively crowd tonight," that was usually Sox Speak for 15,000. Boisterous crowd = 13000 Lively crowd = 15000 Good crowd = 17000 Big crowd = 22000 We had a big walkup = 25000 Huge crowd = 27000 Full house = 30000 Packed house = 35000 Not a seat left in the house = 37000

Sox announce 2006 Spring Training broadcast
retro1983hat replied to SSH2005's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Last year I think two of their ST games were on ESPN. I would bet at least a few would be on there again. As long as the Yanks or Red Sox don't have a game scheduled. -
A very good read, but the media constantly ask Sox fans when they will get over the Cubs. My question is when will the media stop mentioning the Cubs (and attendance) in every Sox article?
-
I wonder if this had to do with Iguchi being late a couple of days in the middle of the year. Ozzie said he had "agent issues" or something like that he needed to take care of.

Crede and his clutch bat and his bad back is locked in at the hot corner per WSCR.

Kerry Wood may start in the bullpen....

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 15, 2006 -> 09:40 PM) 3 years in a row, huh? Josh Beckett is my AL pick. I remember last year during the playoffs when Garland had the long layoff and he had to pitch a simulated game. Someone asked him who the opposing pitcher was, Kerry Wood? I laughed at that subtle little dig. -
Nancy Faust will be back - Part Time
retro1983hat replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Nancy made no bones about the fact she was not happy how they fazed her out during the last decade. I don't think she held anything against the Sox, but she didn't like the way the atmosphere around the game changed. Oh well, Nancy was a fixture, but in the last few years she only played the organ for opposing players. A good run that will soon come to an end. -

Sox Hire Chris Singleton to Join Ed Farmer
retro1983hat replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With Farmer doing play-by-play, we will get ample opportunities to hear his patented "whistle." Listen closely when he talks for long periods of time. Little "whistles" come out during words. It must be something with his teeth. -
Do you think Paulie sat down on his laptop and typed this or pulled out an old-fashioned caligraphy pen and dipped it in ink and wrote it out on parchment paper. I am going with answer C. Someone from the Sox marketing department told Paulie they were sending out a letter addressed to the fans and told him they put his name at the bottom.

Sox Hire Chris Singleton to Join Ed Farmer
retro1983hat replied to thedoctor's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) the Score sucks. Not that any of us heard Singleton do color, but I'm sure he's not making much more than a happy meal. If they were gonna go the former player route, they obviously didnt really care wheter or not the player was a fan favorite or even a noteable. Sure, many Sox fans know of Singleton's time here, the trade to the O's, but color guy for a world championship team?? :headshake Thanks Score at least it wasnt North. :finger Screw ESPN too for having Moronotti on too long and losing the contract. FYI for all those who get up in the morning simply to rip on the Score, Chris Singleton will not work for the Score. The Sox hired him. He is a White Sox employee. The team has the final say on all on-air candidates. -
Sox Hire Chris Singleton to Join Ed Farmer

This seems to have come right out of left field. Or center field actually. It's a safe pick. Does anyone know if he had been doing games for anyone the last few years? -
I saw something 10 years ago about Townsend losing his hearing. Also, you want to talk over rated band, the disucussion begins and ends with Pink Floyd.

Had the Bears not become so full of themselves after the Superbowl year and not worshipped that buffoon Jim McMahon, they could have easily won several more championships with Flutie at QB. Instead the whole team worried more about egos and commercials than they did about winning again. Flutie became a star in the Canadian league and came back to the NFL and played pretty well. Oh well, Chicago's loss.

We will still have some dog games vs. the Royals or DRays, but I think 2.75 would be considered an unbelievably great number. I really think 3 million is a pipe dream because you can't have a drop off in April, May or September or you will never make that figure. Low game of the year: Wednesday, April 19, 1:05pm vs. KC. Basically you can take the full-season ticket base and plug it into the paid attendance for that game.

A great place in the suburbs is Nikkos in Arlington Heights. We used to go there everyday for lunch in high school.
-
It was so dumb I laughed.
-
Of course this year especially, they will hold a TON of tickets back for people that still want to order season tickets. So it may seem the lower deck is sold out, but in reality if you wanted to order full season tickets, they will probably be available.

I got mine taken at the Algonquin store yesterday. The trophy was and hour and half late. I still waited until 5. When I left though, there were still 200 people in line. Extremely cool. And the Sox PR people are very accomodating. They let you take as many pictures with as many different cameras as you want.
