  1. .202 batting average in the minors. Almost as good as Joe Borchard's in the Mexican winter league.
  2. If we keep Willie, Borchard has to go. And another decision will have to be made when Frank comes back. 1 Posednik 2 Iguchi 3 Dye 4 Konerko 5 Everett 6 Rowand 7 AJ 8 Uribe 9 Crede 10 Burhle 11 Garcia 12 Conteras 13 El Duque 14 Garland 15 Shingo 16 Marte 17 Vizcaino 18 Hermanson 19 Cotts 20 Adkins 21 Timo 22 Valdez 23 Gload 24 Davis 25 Willie 26 Thomas DL
  3. Here's some positive on ticket sales. Usually Opening Day does not sell out until a day or two before the season. I just checked for two seats for Opening Day and they only had the last two sections in the upper deck left.
  4. I know how teams hide how much money they receive from local broadcasting rights. I.E. The Cubs just move numbers from one ledger (WGN TV and Radio) and move it to another (Cubs). But does anyone know where the Sox rank in local broadcasting revenue. I had heard that even though their attendance and payroll are both the middle-of-the-road, the Sox rank in the top 7 of all Major League Baseball teams in local broadcast revenue. This of course may be all screwed up now with them owning part of the Comcast channel.
  5. Ozzie needs to keep Uribe out of the top half of the lineup. Even though I love Rowand, he is really not the quintessential #3 hitter.
  6. Back on track now .... I think John Candy liked the Sox as well.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 11:56 PM) Were/are Pippen and Jordan sox fans? Or were they only because they got free tickets from their boss? I am not sure about Scottie. Oh wait I could care less about that ingrate-who-couldn't-be-counted-on-during-the-last-minutes-of-the-game. As for Michael, I think he was a Sox fan, back when the park first opened through 1993 when we won and were actually the place to be.
  8. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) Tom Hanks? I am alomst positve he's a professed A's fan. He was in their piece for HBO on Bay sports in the 70's I saw an interview where Hanks talked about being a Cleveland Indian fan. I guess the members of Styx are fans. Hey, I don't want to sound jealous, but our celebrity fans are definitely outside the league of William Petersen, Jimmy Buffett, Bill Murray, John Cuasak and others.
  9. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 11:44 AM) Most national celebrities of any kind are hopeless trendies, and yes it seems true that most of our locals who went national root for the wriglies. I do seem to recall that Hannah Storm, who is from Oak Park I believe once pledged allegiance to the Sox. I am a huge Sox fan and I wouldn't brag about having Hannah Storm on my side. Watching these local TV stations cover Cub events is sickening. I would rather watch that old Geezer Sam Sianis f*** his goat than hear him talk about the curse or his horrible cheeseburgers one more time.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 20, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Bernie Mac is a big White Sox fan... so much so that some of the lame Cub fans blame him for "cursing" them by singing the 7th inning stretch during one of the crucial NLCS games Yes, I have heard this as well. I tried to stay away from national celebrities, because they are almost all Cub fans. (John Cusak, Jimmy Buffet, Joe Mantegna, etc.)
  11. I have tried to breakdown those pseudo celebrities in the Chicago area and I think I can determine which baseball team in town they root for. Let me know if I am wrong or who else you can think of. WHITE SOX Steve Dahl Bruce Wolf Mike North Dan Jiggetts Dan McNeil Fred Heubner Eric Fergeson (101.9 Mornings) Kevin Matthews Wendy Snyder Dan Bernstein Jonathon Hood Phil Rosenthal (Sun-Times TV guy) Richard Roeper John Kass Mayor Daley Cory McPherrin Mike Mulligan (Sun-Times columnist) CUBS Walter Jacobsen Ron Rappaport (Sun-times columnist) Jay Mariotti Rick Telander Mark Giangreco Mike Murphy George Offman Bruce Levine Harry Tiny-Nuts Jurko Barry Rozner (Daily Herald columnist) Mark Suppelsa (Ch. 32) Carol Slezak (Sun-times columnist) and Any other TV news person that didn't grow up in Chicago
  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 19, 2005 -> 04:32 AM) or "Bringer Of Sleep" or "He Who Loves Sammy" or "Shoes Not Socks" And his sagacious saying would be: "He who wears baseball pants to locker room celebration, no get jeans soaked in champagne."
  13. QUOTE(soxhawks @ Jan 18, 2005 -> 01:52 PM) hawk is way better than farmer, i dont know why so many people like farmer so much, when all he does is ramble on about random crap that comes out of nowhere I agree. Every time he mentions St. Rita or where he played golf that day or the Bertucci Boys is very annoying. I know the broacasters are basically an arm of the team's marketing department, but please, just step out and be truthful against the Sox players when it is warranted. He is so worried about being the players' buddies.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 11:18 AM) I really don't see how the upper deck at Comiskey is any different than anywhere else. I have been to games at 13 different parks, and I don't see it. The view and the height are fine with me. I just don't like how you can not walk around the lower concorse and experience the ammenities down there if you have an upper deck ticket.
  15. I still think the biggest drawback is the upper deck. And not just that you are so high. I go to about 10-15 games a year and I won't sit up there. The view is fine, but I hate they do not let you walk around the first level concourse if you have upper level tickets. There are a lot of things on the lower level that are great, especially for the casual fan and they can't get to it if they have upper deck tickets. Anyways, based on the advanced sales I have seen, I think they will sell the entire lower deck out for almost the whole season (except April). Anyone want to guess what the drop off in attendance will be from Opening Day to Game 2 in the afternoon?
  16. QUOTE(SEALgep @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) That's too bad it wasn't that great. Last years seminar was really good. It had Rowand, Wunsch, and Olivo with wives. It ended up being pretty funny. Oh it was still pretty good. I just felt that Ed Farmer ruined it by talking 10x as much as everyone else on the stage combined. But I feel he does that with every broadcast as well. Just my opinion.
  17. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 17, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) Farmio likes to talk, everyone knows that. The only thing in his defense is that it was like pulling teeth to get things out of the wives at times. He had to lead a lot of the questions and keep pulling. They are not in the media spotlight all of the time and its kind of tough getting up in front of a lot of people and talking. Arows wife did by far the best job at it. But he did lead the conversation about how much wrigley was a dump. Oh Rowand's wife by far was the best. Oh and believe me, I know Baseball Pants likes to talk. I guess I just feel that he forgets he is no longer a player, as much as he tries to act like he is the players' buddies. I also know he loves the Sox ... he just grates on me. Although it would be fun to play the: "Farmer complains about the umpires drinking game." We'd all be drunk by the second inning.
  18. I would say Aaron just because he earned the spot last year. But they really are interchangable.
  19. I was at the seminar with Rowand, Crede, Gload, Politte and their wives and Farmer moderated it. Ooops I'm sorry, Farmer talked the entire time about himself and his career and spent the rest of the time wanting to talk about the Cubs and Wrigley Field. My wife had said that it could have been a great seminar listening to the players and their wives talk about the family life of a major league baseball player. But instead, Farmer talked for 20 minutes about how the Cubs are screwed up because they play day games. Hey, Mr. Baseball Pants .... you're not the show!!!
  20. Does anyone know how the ticket booth will be set up at SoxFest for single game tickets? I have several of the White Sox Gift Certificates and they can only be used at the Cell box office. Will the ticket booth at SoxFest be considered the WhiteSox box office?
  21. George Offman just reported Aaron Rowand singned to three-year extension!!!
  22. Yes Whitesox.com said Konerko and Davis would be handing out refreshments, but I personally do not believe Sox fans will sit out there when the internet and phones make ordering so much easier. That seems to be more of a Cub tradition so they can get on the morning news.
  23. I was just wondering if anyone was going to brave the cold today and wait outside the Cell ticket office? Also if you did: How many other people were there? Were Paul Konerko and Ben Davis out there as well?
  24. QUOTE(Loaiza21 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) I'm really gonna miss Mags. He could run well, hit well, and he wasn't selfish. Have fun on the Cubs Magglio . True, Maggs will be missed, but we would all be killing KW if he signed him without having a doctor examine him. Especially if he got hurt midway through the season. I feel guardedly positive about the season and I am looking forward to SoxFest. Oh God, I am starting to sound like a Cub fan.
