  1. Funny how Sosa's English sucks so bad at just the right time.
  2. I think they will all deny taking them. They are probably confident they won't do jail time.
  3. How is it even remotely possible that there is all this whining about Ron Santo (Ronny Boo-Hoo) getting into the HOF? Just based on how these Cub fans cry about Santo and how he deserves to get in, means Frank should be an absolute lock based on his numbers.
  4. At this pace, for all of these people to testify, they will be there until the World Series starts.

  6. Does anyone know the lineup? What order each of the people will testify in? I have tried to find it, but found nothing. Will it be on radio at all?
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 02:51 PM) The beauty of baseball is that some silly scout will view our tee ball stand with rose colored glasses and believe that a future Cy Young is just their pitching coach away from appearing. Hopefully the same goes for Borchard. They catch him on a 2-4 home run day with 2 monster shots. That scout hopefully will believe they have Mark McGwire in front of them instead of Crappy Bumwitz that we all know we have. That is giving Mr. Bumwitz a bad name.
  8. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) We need a backup SS right? Trade Felix Diaz for Mike Caruso! SLAPPY!!!!!
  9. Update: Joe Borchard has struck out
  10. Without a doubt, unquestionably, the most overrated tourist things to do in Chicago are the Chicago Auto Show, the Taste of Chicago, Billy Goat Restaurant. The way the local media covers these events, you would think we lived in Pig Slop, Mississippi, and we have nothing else to offer. The Auto Show: A bunch of cars. That's it, no big deal. No reason for every local TV station to have hour-long shows showing you the cars. Taste: Nothing like some 350-lb temporary worker sweating over your over priced turkey leg in 100 degree heat, while fighting through 1 million people, most of whom smell like they haven't showered in a decade. Billy Goat: s***ty, crappy, overpriced, miniscule burgers. f*** Sam Siannis and his uncle's dumb curse. I think the reason I would not want the Cubs to ever win has more to do with not wanting to see that old bastard and his girlfriend (some goat they got from Lincoln Park Zoo), than anything about the baseball team.
  11. When Borchard his hitting them out, things are looking good. He has 4 hits this spring, 3 homers. He's the Stanford Dave Kingman.
  12. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 10:50 AM) Another reason why I rank the Sox #1 is needs: Losses by year: 04 H 35L, R 44L 03 H 30L, R 46L 02 H 34L, R 47L 01 H 35L, R 44L 00 H 35L, R 32L The Sox are good for an avg of 33L or 48W at home no matter what. To win the division the Sox must be road warriors (no more than 36L & no less than 45W). Road Warriors(bats): Pods 04 R 274A/741OPS, 3 yr avg: R 295A/783OPS. Igs has the best R #'s on the team (JPL). AJP 04 R 261/720, 3yr R 294/787. ARow 04 R 317/907, 3yr R 296/811. Everett 04 R 296/828, 3yr R 276/792. Thomas 04 R 274/892, 3yr R 250/793. Gload 04 R 311/839, 3yr R 318/848. Road Warriors(arms): Marky B 04 R (229/630), 3yr R (260/710). Garcia 04 R (237/679), 3yr R (254/725). El Duque 04 R (237/724), 3yr R (251/700). Garland 04 R (255/762), 3yr R (272/790). Shingo 04 R (180/561). Marte 04 R (182/570), 3yr R (191/590). Vizcaino 04 R (235/724), 3yr R (238/720). Herm 04 R (254/769), 3yr R (272/766). Road Bums: Crede, Koney, Dye, Uribe, Perez, Contreras, Politte, Adkins, Cotts Koney + Contreras + Cotts to AZ for Javier Vazquez 04 R (286/831), 3yr R (261/730). Either Contreras will develop into a road warrior (fat chance) or he will be used as bait to get one. In either case the Sox will have an upgrade here to battle in the 2nd half. If Koney isn't signed he's gawn. 05 PreAS: Apr (10H, 14R), May (13H, 16R), Jun (16H, 9R), JulA (6H, 3R) = (45H, 42R) 05 PosAS: JulB (7H, 10R), Aug (13H, 15R), Sep (17H, 13R) = (37H, 38R) The schedule favors us slightly. Um, so what does X=?
  13. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) The Sox will get exposure when they win. Winning is the only thing that will put butts in the seats and grab the Sox headlines. Until they make the playoffs [and maybe not even then], the sox will be overlooked and underappreciated around the league. Unfortunately, this is true. Luck is never on our side. Like when Sammy Sosa plays that first series back in Chicago in May, all the reporters will be out there on the first game, which is a Thursday, which we will be lucky to draw 20000 fans. But we could come close to a sellout on Saturday, but by then it won't matter. It is alos unfortunate that our best series' are later in the year .... Red Sox, Yankees, Cubs.
  14. "Uh, oh, ahhh, uh, oooo, uhhhh, well, ahh, ohh no, boo hoo, ohh uhhh, you see, waaaah, oh, but, um, ok." That's just some of the commentary Ron Santo will be providing on the radio this afternoon.
  15. This year, for the first time in a loooooong time, the Sox will open the season at home. This means that some lame TV reporter gets to go and hang out outside the stadium to collect interviews about the coming of spring and how baseball is finally here. Uh Oh .... if all holds true, the lead story on the news, let alone sports that day, will be the Illini championship game, as it should be. But of course, when the Cub open their season at home it will be that Friday when all the Final Four stuff will be over. We can't win when it comes to exposure.
  16. Sportscenter is currently doing their tour of spring training sites. That of course means it visits the Yankees, Red Sox and Cubs. Dan Patrick will be at the Cubs site today. Oh this just in .... Dusty took a crap, back to you.
  17. Hermanson will probably step in if something happens during the season, but Ozzie should keep Contreras on a short leash. He scres the hell out of me on the mound. He has Ace stuff but on some days it looks like he never has pitched before. Kenny has remade the team and Ozzie said this is the team he wants. I am holding them to it and will not be patient. Ozzie needs to have a quick trigger with guys like Contreras, Takatsu, Crede and Uribe if things go south fast.
  18. It's pointless to argue with Cub fans, even though I do it all the time. Basically every arguement comes down to the same thing since neither team has won in a century. Cubs fans make fun of Sox fans because they don't support their team and fill the park. Sox fans make fun of Cub fans for not knowing anything about baseball and just going to that sewer of a ballpark just for the party. Personally, I would love more "fair-weather" fans this season at the Cell. A full house is always better than the 11,000 people we get in April against the Royals. We all know that there are plenty of great Sox fans and if the Sox win, the fans will pack the stadium. We also all know some Cub fans that have baseball knowledge and actually don't like the yuppified Wrigley experience or the AssClowns that give them all a bad name. Oh well, basically until one of the teams wins, neither really has anything to brag about.
  19. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) Just as you say that lol I'll be happy to be a good jinx for the team all year.
  20. Is anyone else concerned that we are REALLY struggling scoring any sort of runs during the spring?
  21. The key part to manufacturing runs is the RUNS part. It doesn't seem like we quite have that mastered yet.
  22. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 01:32 AM) You dooooo? I was very unhappy when Tom P did not return. Maybe it was dorky, but I used to love the whole pregame intros Wimpy used to do: "The weather, a beautiful 70-degrees today. A look at our good friends in blue. And now it's time to play ball, and here's the HAAAWWK-A-ROOOO."
  23. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:37 AM) But Jay is wrong. We are not a major market team. We are #2 in a split market, putting us on par with the Milwaukees of the world. We deserve what we are getting, a string of economically reasonable, breaking even, second place seasons with a strong desire to rid ourselves of any superstars and achieving the holy grail of balance, 25 guys all earning $2.7 mil per year. We may not be in the Red Sox, Yankees or Cubs world but we are not Milwaukee either. We are middle of the road. Our TV contract is one of the highest in baseball. Average ticket price also is very high. Not just in terms of payroll, but in terms of what teams actually make and can spend I believe the hierarchy goes something like this: 1. Yankees 2. Red Sox 3. Cubs 4. Mets 5. Dodgers 6. Mariners 7. Orioles 8. Angels 9. Braves 10. Houston 11. Giants 12. Phillies 12. White Sox JMO!
